The Foto Shop develop photos, sell film, possibly cameras (but I can't be sure about that), photo frames and pretty much anything else you can think of when it comes to photography items. I'm always surprised when there are so many photo shops around considering how many people use digital cameras these days. I forget people still go to print their photos, or buy regular film. These little guys have to compete with the big guys about town and as a result you might end up paying a slightly higher price for equipment but you don't have to wait 20 minutes to be served and/or treated like an idiot by a 14 year old sales assistant. I walked in here and within a couple of minutes Carmel (the store manager) was asking me questions about what I was looking for and making genuine recommendations (not upsells) about what type of Eye-Fi card would suit me best. I got distracted in store by the polaroid cameras and she literally talked me out of one based on the dying technology and cost of purchasing film. You've got to love it when a sales assistant is that genuine they talk you out of buying needless crap! If you're in need of: - camera repairs - 1 hour photobook or photo processing or 48 hours to create a canvas out of a photo - SD, STD and WTF cards - random parts - new cameras Then this is the shop I would head to first in all of the mall. This is where I head to get my digital photos printed - prices are pretty cheap and they turn them around on about 15 minutes on a busy day....just the right amount of time to go for a sneaky coffee at Cibo's. Yes I've timed it. As well as the printing kiosks, there's a fairly good range of photo frames, which are generally not my style but would make for a good pressie. What I like about this place is that it's family run, and they're always super lovely and friendly and remember who you are. I went in here the other day with a friend to get his passport photos taken - service as usual was quick and professional, and my photographer friend chatted for ages about all things photographic with the affable shop assistant. Plus the passport photo came out really well which has to be a first in the history of humankind.

Diamonds Camera sold me a faulty Polaroid camera and/or film, ruining my photos from day one…read more(Christmas!). At first, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and took the hit on the cost of the film, assuming that was the issue. But when it became clear the camera itself might be defective, I contacted them for a return to check it out. Instead of taking responsibility for selling a faulty product, they refused to pay the return postage - which is legally their obligation under Australian Consumer Law. Not only did they refuse to do the right thing, but they were also shockingly rude about it. They couldn't care less about their customers once they've taken your money. I have proof that the camera was defective from day one, yet Diamonds Camera is trying to dodge accountability. This is now being pursued through NSW Fair Trading and SA's Consumer and Business Affairs. Their arrogance and lack of ethics are disgraceful. If you value your hard-earned money, AVOID DIAMONDS CAMERA AT ALL COSTS. They sell faulty products, ignore their responsibilities, and treat customers with contempt. Go to a reputable retailer instead.

Camera House have very good help behind the counter; if there's one thing I have never been able to…read morestand it is the know-it-all camera sales person who treats his/her customer as though they are a fool and can be sold any old piece of equipment because the sales person feels they need to sell it, not because the customer is asking for it. Never had this problem at Camera House. They have a few stores in the city but this is the original and the best. The others have sprung up by necessity in terms of processing hubs (Central Markets and City Cross Arcade) but this is where the bulk of the main stock is kept and sold. The processing side of the business has more or less become a DIY customer interactive experience - so rather than have that in the main store, it is out among the people in places with heavy foot traffic and easy spots to go have a snack or coffee while your processing happens within an hour. You can get good advice here in Grenfell Street main store and you can look at a range of lenses, telescopes and other items, not just cameras. These days are the last days of old school cameras so you may want to get one before they stop making them all together. This is one place you can do just that.
