Bawai's Vietnamese Kitchen - Spring rolls without pork

Delicous Pho in the heart of Tagaytay!…read more My aunt, who knows the owner, brought me here. We dined in at 8pm and the service was still great. The design of the restaurant is very contemporary with glass walls. The spring rolls were delicous, but a bit bitter due to the cucumber skins. The sauce was great. The pho was really good. They use flat vermicelli noodles here rather than the usual round vermicelli. And the broth had a great flavor depth to it. Finally, we recieved a free dessert, complements of the the manager Paul. The dessert was similar to kutchinta, but covered with warm coconut milk. Delicous.

Bawai's has always been one of those "must eat" places in Tagaytay. And I would concur with that statement. The good food coupled with the cozy and relaxing ambience is an exhilarating escape from the pollution and busy-ness of Metro Manila. I went there on a drizzly day, not really expecting much. My friend and I took a seat by the window and I immediately breathed in a fresh, cool breeze. That alone made the long drive worth it. The food was equally comforting. I ordered fresh garden spring rolls. I loved the peanut sauce and the caramelized pork. I also ordered the chicken noodle soup, the double grilled pork belly and the black tiger prawns with tamarind sauce. Delicious! Although they already have a branch in White Plains, I'd still prefer the original location any day!

The serving size is good for sharing between three people - even their soups are good for sharing. You can have it split up before serving. I very much recommend the Goi Cuon, a fresh spring roll with shrimp, vermicelli and pork wrapped in rice paper and served with Ba Noi's delicious peanut sauce. Another dish that I really love is the Bo Luc Lac, a stir-fried spiced beef dish served with a side of fried basil; the Vietnamese fried rice; and the Vietnamese iced coffee. I particularly like the Bo Luc Lac and order it every time because the beef is really soft and tender and the taste goes well with the side of fried basil. As well, the Goi Cuon remains a mainstay in my order because I really like how healthy the dish is. That being said, I think every visit at Ba Noi's promises a nutritious and healthy meal that is filling and best enjoyed with family or friends.

Third, Korean (I've been noticing they have been popping all over the metro!). But Vietnamese -- they're not so prevalent in the country. Even Banoi's a little hard to find. This place is located near the office, just a 10 step walk from dela rosa street to Perea . If I ever need a quick fix of pho noodles, I go here. Me and my officemates are very fond of the restaurant -- In fact, It has become one of our favourite spots to have a office lunch out. If you are ever here, don't ever ever forget to order their Cha Gio. It's like our very own lumpia.. but XL in size. The dipping sauce that comes with it won me over. And their curry chicken? Two thumbs up. As for Pho, I always order their Pho ba, their beef noodle soup with herbs and spices. I can't get enough of their sweet savoury broth and tender slices of beef. Yum! Coffee's strong too. I tried it during lunch time and I was awake and alert till late at night. Vietnamese coffee is one the best things about Banoi. :)

The atmosphere was spartan, sketchy even at times, but the food always more than compensated for that. Fast forward to my life as an expat in Manila and it's been a long journey to find a good bowl of pho. The mall chains kill the craving but never really satisfy. I thought I wouldn't ever find a spot to fill the pho-shaped hole in my heart until I randomly decided to try this spot after Mass in Greenbelt. The place looked super hip and colorful, almost like it was trying too hard. I was a little worried but I'm glad I went with my gut (literally) and came in for some Vietnamese goodness. I ordered iced ginger and lemongrass tea (₱90) to go along with my bowl of beef pho (₱450). Yes, the prices are a bit steep but they are totally worth how high quality and fresh the ingredients were. The tea packed a real punch and didn't seem watered down at all. The pho was amazing. Normally I taste the broth before adding any hoisin or sriracha to see if it can stand on its on. The broth here definitely could. There was also a generous serving of noodles, garnish, beef, and fresh herbs. My only gripe was that the noodles were a tad harder than I was used to but it still didn't ruin the meal. Service was attentive though it took awhile for me to get my bill. It was understandable though given how busy the restaurant was. Can't wait to go again!

With that said, I like the appetizing clean herby flavor of the base broth and regardless if you are having white or red meat with it, the freshness always stands out. I am no chef but it seems to me that this is a case where you can't have too much herb in your soup. The space is a bit cramped and service is soso - considering that there are only a handful of tables to wait on. Nonetheless, this is still one of places I'd go to whenever I want a steamy bowl of soup.

I had a lemonade (the best in a while) the fried calamari and stuffed chicken wings. My two year old had the fried rice egg roll. Service was a miss as we had been seated for about ten minutes while our server bussed the tables. Once she was done and only because we had motioned her over dos she take our order. The place has air conditioning which makes it a plus as you try to get out of the heat. Seating is super tight which makes it a bit hard to navigate when the diner gets busy. Place was 4 stars at best, but it bad to knock a star off due to the slow service and items that were on the menu but not available. Give this place a try, hopefully you'll get better service than we did

The first pick of everyone for a delectable taste option. It was not a disappointment. I may have tried different Asian cuisines at different times but this place has by far serves cuisines that you could try at one visit. There were no regrets on this visit. The following stands out and satisfied my taste pallettes: Vietnamese spring roll Special crispy tawalis Balinese satay prawn Crispy pork belly in hoisin sauce Beef tenderloin roll ....that all the above perfectly matched with Bagoong fried rice. Each has unique delectable flavor, fitting to the restaurant's slogan. Mixed and match Asian fusion cuisne has made the meet up more entertaining and pleasurable. The place is classy, the chandeliers and the table arrangement level up the place into a fine dining restaurant. A good and perfect place for celebration. Don't be intimated, the menu price is very affordable. They have wide selection of beverages too. I had a good dining experience aside I was with good company. We were there at the right moment, they just open up. No trouble with service, with seating and the food presentation. Oh well, the advantage of being early birds paid off. A well recomemnded place.
