The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming right when you walk in. Great for kids and large parties. They champion world class pizza right here in St John's and looks like the decor is up to date and inviting. The staff are friendly and attentive. My only issue is the food, the pasta was thick and glubby. The pizza was so thin I couldn't actually pick it up so much so I had to eat pizza with a fork and knife which just felt wrong. One last thing: these guys definitely know what mozzarella cheese is, maybe not how to use it. read more

Pizza is great but wear shades! I absolutely thought the pizza was delicious. We had the Fibonacci (a sweet pizza with caramelized pear with red onion, walnuts & gouda cheese) and another pizza with basil, oregano, tomato sauce and mini meatballs that was an award winner. We were divided at our table as to which one was our favourite they were both so good! Trips to the bathroom were not so impressive. On our second last evening in St. John's, my travelling pal Claire found Pi online when searching for vegan options for me. I have to say, St. John's was the last city I expected to find such a rad place. After experiencing a drive-by-nerf-gun-shooting walking down Duckworth to get here, I was immediately soothed by the cool aesthetic and awesome post hardcore music playing in this little nook. My friends and I shared an order of garlic cheese bread with... SOY CHEESE. What's that? Somewhere in Newfoundland serves vegan cheese on their menu? YES. YES THEY DO. And quality soy cheese at that; none of that secretlyunvegancaseinstuff, or grosslysweettapiocadaiyacheese. Following this, we each ordered our own pizza as I was with one carnivore, one vegetarian, and was the loan vegan. I had the veggie life with vegan cheese. High fives to this pizza. It ruled. Following our delightful meal, my one friend ordered a piece of hot fudge cake, which happened to be vegan. I tried a bite and wasn't really taken by it, but I am also a vegan baker myself so am super picky. At this little establishment, I ate some of the yummiest pizza I have ever had in my life. What a surprise! I wasn't expecting to find that in St. John's, after having been to NYC, but there you go! In fact, this place was so good that we ate here twice in the seven days we were in town. The decor of the shop is also just adorable. It's bright, clean and funky with some very cute artwork (and some poetry volumes in the bathroom!) The staff were a little bit slow, which the first time we went in was perplexing as we were the only people there. When we returned, it was a busy Friday night and the service was much faster. Go figure. But the real star of the show here was the pizza. Drooool. Now I'm usually a girl who likes her big, deep dish pizza, but this flat-crust was absolutely perfect and so light! The first time I had the Archimedes which was quite good. I was especially impressed with the crust. We also had dinner at Piatta, another pizza shop while we were there, and I found their crust to be doughy and glutenous, and could not be eaten without a fork and knife as it had no firmness to it. But this place, the pizza was thin, but firm and crisp. Just about perfect! The next time we returned, i had another pizza...I can't recall the name of it now, but it had pesto, goat cheese, bacon, banana peppers, red onions and roasted chicken (and a sprinkling of really killer fresh parm). Now this pizza was something else. It was SO flavourful, crisp and fresh - by far the best thin-crust pizza I've ever had and rivaling best pizza I've had period. If you are in St. John's, do not miss this spot. It's clear the owner (who was there both times) cares a tremendous amount about what she does and frankly - she kicks ass! Thus far, I can say unequivocally that Pi is the best pizza place I have ever been to. And pizza is one of the few things I expect to be served on a silver platter in heaven. Of course, it depends on what you're looking for in a pie. Sometimes after a long week at work all you need is a messy, greasy, deep dish pizza. If that's what you're craving then Pi is not the place you're looking for. Pi's pizza is the kind you can have without eater's remorse, since it's heavy on the veggies, light on the cheese, and thin crusted. I discovered Pi in 2009 while visiting home. It has now become mandatory to eat a minimum of 2 meals at Pi on my annual trip to St. John's. My favourite pizza has to be the Fibonacci (caramelized pears, toasted walnuts, Gouda) but the others I've tried approach it's greatness. I've also tried the Mediterranean salad, and for desert, gingerbread in rum sauce, yum! Until next year, Pi. I'll be missing you. read more

This place has the most exciting ingredients I have ever seen used on pizza! Sweet potato, caramelized pear, roasted leeks, toasted almonds, gingered sesame asparagus and red grapes, to name a few. My favorites are the Szechuan Chicken, The Genius and the Pythagoras. Their pastas are also delicious according to my companion who had the Carbonera and is still raving about it. The decor is funky, lite and fun and the prices are reasonable with our dinner, wine included, coming to 65.00 tax in. Their desserts are homemade and they even have a gluten free dough option if need be, although the kitchen is not gluten-free. Parking might be a problem during the day in the area but the evening is less congested. read more

On a cold night in St Johns i returned to Pi to see if it was as good as i remembered from my last trip. And it was definitely worth it. I had a great thai chicken soup as an app and followed it up with a Pascal pizza. Both were good but the pizza was excellent. Good service and a nice beer made a quiet dinner on a business trip a nice evening. read more

Pizza can get boring quick. It's usually all the same if you're used to delivery from the generic spots. Not the case at Pi. Here I found a great, colorful and comfortable dining room. Super friendly staff who are just as laid back (although not slacking on the job!) who make the entire experience more real, relaxing and enjoyable. The wait was little to no time from what I was expecting. And just after a few mouthfuls I looked to my dinner date and stated how we had to return in the near future. If you're one for desserts (unlike myself.) I'm sure you'll be happy to see how their cheesecake is always changing flavors. You'll never get bored! Excellent restaurant, they may brag a little about how famous their pizza is. And they really mean every last word. read more

I would give it 2.5 if I could and as for the pizza it would've gotten a three, but the pasta gets a one so it averages out to 2. Now, the pizzas not great, but it's one of the few local pizzas that are edible. Do not order the pasta. Everything is a little overpriced, but welcome to St. Johns. The locals love this place, and a lot of people will recommend it, but if you have any sense you won't take the recommendation of a local. As a gluten free vegan, you can imagine how excited I was to find that I was able to actually go out for pizza with confidence and not have to make any sort of compromise to my diet. And it wasn't no ordinary messily cracker crusted saucy pizza, this was literally one of the best GF crusts I'd ever tasted, piled high with veggies and even the soy cheese was delicious. But in St Johns, where everything is over priced, it's a tiny town, the cheese tastes funky, and everyone wants to shove fried cod down your throat... This place was a godsend. I had a really yummy pizza with lots of delicious toppings, the crust is awesome for thin crust, and they have many options besides tomato for a base (i went with pesto). Found out later in the week they are closed on Tuesdays, which is a bit random but fine. I tried to make a relatively large order (8 pizzas) and Pi would not work with me. I needed them at noon on a Wednesday, so I called Monday afternoon to give them notice. They said I'd have to call Wednesday morning to see if they could do it, and even if they could, they wouldn't start making them until noon! As well, they said that if they could accommodate us, there would be an automatic 15% gratuity! For picking up pizza! St. John's definitely isn't known for its pizza...in fact it is really hard to find a delicious pizza for a reasonable price. Pi is one of the better options out there, but not the best in St. John's and it certainly is one of the more expensive options! What Pi does have going for it is a nice cozy atmosphere and the perfect thin crust (if you're in to thin crusts...sometimes I like a more doughy one). I'm kind of a traditionalist when it comes to pizza (ie: no freaky-deaky toppings for this gal) so I find a lot of their custom pizzas a bit weird (grapes? salmon?) but I know there are some adventurous types out there who would love that kind of stuff. As I said before, it's also a bit pricey and as a student that is a HUGE factor in where I decide to go for food. When I eat pizza I usually want a lot of it (leftover pizza is the perfect breakfast) so Pi isn't my first choice. read more

My wife and our two kids (10 and 8) needed a last-minute dinner destination, and Pi turned out to be 5 minutes from our hotel. We were greeted immediately and shown to great seats; we loved the decor and the science theme. The server was attentive and friendly, and made substitutions on request for our kids. The food was fantastic -- the salads were surprisingly substantive and tasty, the pizzas were top-notch -- and the service was fast and helpful. I'm a big fan of pizza and was dying to try this place for a long time even though it was just at the bottom of my street but wish I never did, the pizza sucked (not because of the toppings I ordered) it was just a shitty thin ass pizza and the table I sat at had a lingering smell of dog piss around it. After my tasty frozen yogurt at Fat Nanny's, I continued my St. John's vacation adventure with a trip to Pi. It was an overcast late afternoon, and I was ready for some take-out pizza in bed (don't judge! I was on vacation). I pulled out my trusty iPhone, and found Pi close-by and with decent reviews. While not all positive, the negatives seemed like not a big deal - I just wanted good pizza! I arrived a few minutes before 4, and was greeted by a friendly employee on his way in. Seeing I was a few minutes before they opened (4pm on Sundays!), I took a walk, picked up some Newfoundland Chocolate Company treats to bring back home (yum! That'll be a separate review :), and made my way back about 4:15 or so. After viewing the menu online, I knew the Kevin Mcallister was for me (Home Alone cheese pizza!). It was $14 for a small, and was ready in about 10 minutes (or less, the time went by quickly). It wasn't busy, and they were still getting set-up. The hipster vibe was fun, and the staff were nice. A few minutes later, I had my small pizza and the perfect end to a Sunday of sightseeing.
