I'd passed by the shop many times but never went inside because I felt kind of shy. The front of the shop is really small so I felt abit awkward walking in only to say I was just browsing. Anyway, one day I finally had a legitimate, or at least what I felt was a legitimate reason to walk in and I was pleasantly surprised with the service. Steve is a professional guitar maker and repairer and I didn't feel any condescention in any way when I told him that all I wanted to do was fix the pickup on my cheap guitar. On the contrary, he was very humble and I could sense his love for guitars from the way he explained how I might take better care of it, even though it was only a cheap guitar. He didn't charge me through the roof for the simple repair (which I was greatly appreciative of) and he got it done for me really quickly which was exactly what I needed. Inside the shop when you walk in, you are immediately greeted by the front counter and whoever might be standing there at the time. They sell guitar cables, strings, picks and all the other standard things you would find in a guitar store. I don't recall seeing any guitars for sale, however if there are any, they aren't located in the front of the store. They also do custom builds for people who are interested in having a guitar built from scratch. From the outside the shop may not look like much, but once you get inside, you'll find all the basic things you need for basic guitar shopping. That said, if your guitar ever has a problem or needs fixing, I'd bring your guitar to Steve. He knows what he's doing and he'll take care of you and you guitar.

I guess the focus is on doing the work rather than bells and whistles. It's refreshing! I had my '72 Strat refretted there recently, and it was a difficult job for Steve because it is a vintage maple neck, and I didn't want to change the look or feel of the neck, apart from the frets. Well, the job was absolutely amazing. There was no evidence of it being done at all, and the frets were finished perfectly. I even received a photographic record of the job so I could see what was done and how. Sensational! Then I got a phone call on the Saturday after asking if the job was OK and how I felt about the service. Noone's ever done that before! I really can't recommend this shop highly enough. I don't really know Steve that well, but he was highly recommended by everyone I spoke to and I can see why. The passion for guitar in the shop is self evident, it's certainly not a production line retail type thing. It's really old school and hands on. There is also a book on the counter with photo's of guitars he's made, well, I say guitars but there were Ukulele's, basses, acoustics and electrics and some weird stuff with heaps of strings! So cool! I hope this shop stays around, you hardly ever see a business where quality comes first and the prices are reasonable. 5 stars!! PS. Steve is an insane guitar player as well! Apparently he plays every Monday night at the Grace Emily hotel in the house band.

St Morris Upholsterers is a family run business that's been in operation in Adelaide since the mid…read more1950's. These people are true craftsmen and are highly experienced in a craft that just isn't practiced as widely today as it once was. I went though a stage a few years back when I bought several old chairs and a sofa from antique shops and had them reupholstered by the guys from St Morris. The chairs and sofa were in an awful state with springs sticking out of the seats and they just weren't usable as they were. They were however stunning old pieces of furniture that simply needed a lot of TLC. After what must have been a great deal of hard work from the guys at St Morris, I ended up with the most stunning sofa covered in a pale blue fabric and two cream chairs and I still have them. One chair is in my bedroom and the other in the office. The reupholster and restoration process wasn't cheap but I really did end up with true investment pieces of furniture that have lasted for years. I know the same people are still running St Morris Upholsterers because I have referred friends to them over the years and everyone has been equally happy with the work done. Go and visit them in their store on Magill Road. You can take your old piece of furniture in for a makeover or they have some stock that's already restored and waiting for a new home. Like I said, their work isn't cheap but it's certainly worth it and you won't regret the money you spend in the long run.

I once bought a lovely sterling silver and garnet braclet from here and do wear it on occassions. It's a mini library and I can envisage a couple of tables and chairs out the front sipping a cup of tea or coffee, whilst my nose is stuck into the daily paper, a book or a magazine (which I have purchased first). If the owner has the time, energy or inclination to do this, then wow, and I'd like my commission of a coffee each time I visit thank you. I really hope Acacia Arts doesn't end up the same way Lola's Flowers did across the road, retirement or worse is a horrible thing to have to deal with! So I truly hope there is family to continue when the time comes to continue the name and not change too many things...I like you just the way you are Acacia Arts.

Yes, they have a collection of accessories and crafts, but what really got me all geeky was the books! Oh, secondhand bookstores, how I love thee! Increasingly rare, a store devoted purely to old and out of print books is a treasure trove of amazingness. Not only are the titles sure to be either niche, classic or rare (or all three), the prices are usually great and the physical act of browsing books in search of a new gem for the bookshelf is a delight. The smell of old books permeates Acacia in a welcoming way, and there are stacks and stacks of books to keep you browsing. From Tolstoy to lurid paperback novels from the '50s, there's bound to be something for book geeks in here, and the staff are also lovely and helpful.

So unless you want to try find a local private sitter or family day care style arrangement (not even sure if FDC do overnighters) this is the place to go. Great for hospital and shift workers with odd start or finish times. The staff still try as much as possible to keep the children in routine. It's amazing being in a centre with so many kids all making noise at dinner time and then a few hours later you, with any luck, have most of them down for sleep. It's also odd with parents coming to drop off and pick up kids at unusual hours sometimes. But they do offer a fantastic unique service and their pricing is still comparable to other centres for care on a per session basis. Even though it's in the city there is still a reasonable outside play area for them here. If you NEED ongoing care I suggest you get on the waiting list as soon as possible though!!!

Its city location also makes is so perfect for parents who work in the city and may not finish until late into the night. The centre is run by qualified childcare workers and offers a great number of services. Wholesome and nutritious meals are served and the price is included in the overall expense of the Centre. They take on children from birth to school age (around 4 or 5) and have different rooms and areas to cater to different ages and needs. The staff have planned activities for the children everyday and cater to those with learning difficulties or those who may have social or interaction problems.

The store looks neat and tidy and takes up a big room despite its small stall size.
