** The following review reflects my experience DURING the COVID-19 pandemic. ** I don't booze it up or buy lottery tickets ad nauseam, so I'm likely not a candidate for a frequency discount card if they offer one here. However, this prominently located Pic N Pac may be in the running for landmark status in El Cerrito because it is at the right juncture in Jamie W.'s and my weekend walking path where we need to wet our whistles before reigniting our momentum for the upward journey. Relatively uncrowded with maskless people or overstocked merchandise, this liquor store is where we buy our Coke Zeros at an appropriate social distance, of course. These guys are scammers, just trying to see what they can get away with . I've been there maybe 3 times over the last 3 years and they always charge at least double what any other place will charge for any given item. Today was the last time I'll ever go there after being charged $23 for a $13 bottle of wine . And then the audacity to charge for a plastic bag No idea how these dudes are still in business. Dont go here unless you enjoy filling the pockets of dishonest people. read more

My other half has complained for years about her lottery winnings being stolen by the clerks here. $100 worth of scratcher winnings turning into $85 etc. I've always noticed their prices are ridiculously high. Try not to be in a hurry. Ask for a receipt. Today that tried to charge me $35 for two packs of cigarettes and a red bull! ( I know....2 bad habits). Turns out he was charging me $7 for the red bull. I know it's happened before with multiple small items, but this one was too obvious. Just be careful. read more

I have been a customer of this local Pic N Pac liquors for over the last five years. The owners of the business are usually nice and fair. However, I went into the liquor store this evening to buy a drink and the price of the drink has gone up overnight. It's not a big deal but I just asked the cashier if he could go to the register and check to see what the price is actually just for my own insurance. The cashier denies the price check and asked me "if I trusted him?" I told him "no" and instead of just giving me a simple price check.. he lost a faithful customer. Not to mention the business was getting pretty business and the other representative who I have had a growing relationship over the years was busy in a "meeting" about his cellphone. The father was present but he completed ignored me because he wasn't on the clock. I feel so disrespected that I refuse to go back here when this location is so convenient for me. I will now go down the street to the other store or walk a little further to the 7Eleven on Stockton St. This isn't the first time I've had confusion with this cashier. Usually he closes down registers early before store is closing and when I came in another time he told me that the registers were down and he was only accepting cash. Pic N Pac is your average at best liquor store. The store is located on the corner of San Pablo Ave. and Fairmount by the El Cerrito Plaza. They have a small and private parking lot for customers for quick store access. The store itself looks pretty aged and needs some minor updating. As for the liquor, they have plenty. The beer is located in the back, chilled and ready to go. The wine and spirits are located in the aisles with the employees watching your every move. The smaller sized bottles (half pints and pints) are located behind the register. Food items, snacks, candy, and other items are stocked as well. Furthermore, they stock adult magazines and DVDs because everyone needs porn and booze. A $5 minimum for payment with debit or credit. read more

7/30/17: I came in to make a single purchase and went straight to the counter. The cashier was the only other person in the store. He glanced up from his phone when I arrived, then went back to his phone while I continued to stand at the counter. After four minutes of standing at the counter and staring at him, he looked up again from his phone and came over to the cash register. I haven't come here for several years, and this reminded me of why. read more

This place is really a HIDDEN GEM. Looks typical and like any corner store from the outside but... the prices on their items especially their alcohol is better than the standard rate at most other stores. For example, they have an 18 bottle pack of Miller Light for 7-8 dollars. I can also appreciate the wide selection they offer. If you're ever in the mood to try new drinks this would be the place to go and browse. read more

This is my #1 favorite liquor store since I turned 21. The owners have changed a few times and its actually got better throughout the years. Very good prices and a very good selection. -Their HARD ALCOHOL selection spans one wall behind the counter and another long accessible wall. -Their BEER selection is good enough so that I don't have to make an extra stop -- they have a good amount of private brewery beers. -Their WINE selection has greatly expanded and is most good! -Excellent selection on non-alcoholic beverages -Everything is ALWAYS well stocked. -Yes, they do have a porn corrale if you're into that. -Clerks are kind and will remember your face. I really only come here for lottery tickets and the occasional bottle of water on my way to and from BART. Owners are friendly. Place is not cramped like some places. Compared to the 3-4 other liquor stores within the same area in the Albany side of San Pablo, this place feels bigger. There are some liquor stores where there is a "this place must be held up a lot" vibe. I don't get that here. Not to say there is no crime here. I just feel safe coming here. read more

They have a pr0n section. It is adorable. One person at a time can enter the swinging wooden doors (ala a Old West bar) and peruse shelves of mags in 3 cardinal directions. They ask that you keep it to 10 minutes tops. I find it disturbing that your torso is shielded from view, but not your head. Someone could start spanking it, and considering half the customers are drunk already, I'm sure it's happened. They also carry random crap like little torches, but not the blatant paraphernalia that you see in an Oakland Kwik-E-Mart. Billions of little sized bottles of booze (who buys that crap except teenagers?). They sell Olde English 40s. 5 stars just for that. read more

It's a pretty impressive selection actually. A beer case runs the length of one wall and includes a section for chilled wines. Speaking of which, there's a fairly sizable wine selection. The liquor selection is fairly extensive, well-priced, and ranges up in quality to a few medium-high options. (If you're seeking $100+ bottles though, you'll have to go elsewhere.) The central area is stocked with standard convenience store fare, so you can grab mixers, snacks, and even most staples and sundries if you need them. The small booth of skin mags was a bit incongruous, if not unexpected, and the collection of mini-bar bottles was impressive, particularly if you're interested in trying different brands. read more

I was looking for the Ruthless Rye by Sierra Nevada. Costco has a case of it but I didn't want to commit until I tasted it. Walking by Pic N Pac after a wonderful dinner at Elevation 66, we popped in and bought a 6-pack of Ruthless Rye to try at home. SCORE! read more

Pic n Pac Liquors was recently taken over by Ben, an entrepaneur that realizes choice and great prices do not have to be mutually exclusive. I find niche liquors that I would have to order from other places and prices that are sometimes one half of what other stores feature. Varied selection of whiskeys, vodkas, rum,tequilia and wines. Some very exclusive and expensive if your taste is upper echelon, or, you want to purchase an expensive bottle for the "person who has everything". The staff is helpful and will definitely try to find what you want. Just ask. Parking is available, onsite or across the street if only for a short time. read more
