I had high hopes after reading some other reviews. I went in with a small print to be framed and left very disappointed. The person working acted as if he was above framing something so small (8x10) he told me it would cost a huge amount to frame and suggested that I do it myself by going to IKEA. I was willing to spend the money to have a professional job done, but his attitude was terrible and I decided to go elsewhere. I just moved here from California, and Picasso Framing has made me so happy to be here in DC! I brought about 10 posters in that I had collected over the years, and Mr. Rojyar took the time to look at all of them and suggest different frame combinations. He was very patient with me because I am colorblind and couldn't see some of the things he was showing me. The frames I eventually picked were really nice and clearly of top quality. And when I came back to pick up the newly framed items, it turned out that the frame I had picked wasn't in stock, so Mr. Rojyar framed all 9 posters in a series in a much nicer frame for the original price (including the 30% off deal from yelp). I was stunned - that saved me about $2000. Incredible! Everybody here is super nice, interested in making sure that the customer gets exactly what they want, and very very knowledgeable. I have to agree with B.H. vis a vis being slightly bewildered as to all of the five star reviews here for Picasso. We have a framer we LOVE in Georgetown, but I always thought they were a little pricey, and figured I should find a place in the neighborhood. So, based on all the glowing reviews on Yelp, I took a couple of items that needed to be reframed, as well as a small item I wanted to frame as a gift, and headed off to Picasso. Upon entering the shop one is, well, less than encouraged by the general state of shabbiness about the place. The overall impression is one of a dusty kind of neglected and messy space - and not one that instills confidence that leaving a valuable piece of art in their care for framing would be a good thing to do. The frame selection is meager, at best, and oddly (I've never encountered this in a framing shop before) kind of off in a corner behind the counter. The limited matt selection is in a rack, also behind the counter. As it was never offered to us for selecting mats for our works, I can't attest to the general condition of the quality of the mats, but the general appearance of the rack from across the counter wasn't good - dusty, tired and dog-eared would be the adjectives I'd use. As far as examples of their framing for customers to look at and refer to there was nothing save a very beat up and dusty shadow box frame kept on the counter (so dusty even the interior of the shadow box was filled with lint and dust). I have a hard time feeling confident in a framer that doesn't have examples for customers to see - and shouldn't any example of offered to a customer for consideration be - well - exemplar? Royjar seemed friendly enough, but rushed and as if he didn't really have time to deal with us when asked for some guidance as to how to frame the small object we'd brought in. We'd hoped to mount it, floating, in a shadow box and frame it with two or three mats in complementary colors as well as a frame. Royjar offered a black matt, black frame and nothing more. No offer to go through different matt colors or textures (linen, paper, etc) with us, and no discussion as to creative ways to show off this object in it's frame. It was odd, to say the least. There we were, ready to get creative with this item, to spend a little money on displaying this special piece in a frame and he just didn't seem to have the time, interest or creativity to make it happen. Finally, after giving us the black mat, black frame option (and no others - again, there are only a handful of frames on display and no mats on display) he quoted us upwards of $300 to have this one small item rather simply and uncreatively framed. The other items we'd brought in to reframe he also wanted between $250 and $300 each for. The kicker to all of this? Those prices were with a "30% discount"! Well, to make a long story less long, I trekked everything over to Georgetown with me the following day to the beautiful showpiece of a framing shop we've always used in the past. I was nervous - if a place like Picasso's wanted those prices, what was this high end, amazing place going to want? Well, here's what they wanted: $175 each to reframe the two pieces. And, get this, after spending forty five minutes with me, sampling a dozen or more frames and even more mat and paper colors and textures, and offering several different creative ideas as to how to mount and frame the object I settled on a handmade paper covered mat as backing, a floating mount for the object, and two more mats edged in more handmade paper in two complementary colors. The frame is French, beautiful carved wood. Amazing. All of that for $150. Yes. $150. No discounts, no coupons - just incredible service, high end creativity and the highest quality products for wonderful prices. Needless-to-say, our items are now in the hands of the good folks in Georgetown, and not Picasso's. After having literally thousands of dollars worth of irreplaceable art stretched and framed or mounted and framed with them I should have known to stick with those I knew were good. But we gave Picasso's a shot, and it didn't work out. You never get a second chance to make a first impression - this is an idea Picasso's would do well to embrace. Perhaps I'd go back to have a poster framed, but leave an irreplaceable object or expensive art in their care? My first impression leaves me with a definite "no". read more

They did a great job on several custom framing jobs at a very reasonable prices, always looking for ways to save me money while making sure the end product looked fantastic! Great selection of modern as well as traditional frames, and the owner provided helpful advice on what mats and styles went well together. I returned a few weeks later with another job - a frame I had where the glass had broken - to my absolute surprise, they fixed it free while I waited!! I went to this shop looking to frame two pieces i painted myself on canvas with wooden frames. We looked at a number of options and prices but I was unsure. Not only did I not feel pressured, but the guy at the shop put hanging wire behind the wooden frames for me so I could hang the art in my home while I make a decision about framing. I am completely dumbfounded by the positive reviews here. We bought a LivingSocial voucher, were told our piece would cost twice the value of the voucher to frame (total of $300) at the very least, said no thanks, took it to another place, where we were told it would cost $140 to frame, and therefore...we will never enter this shop again, and actively encourage our friends not to give them their business either. The voucher says nothing about having to use a certain type of frame or glass or mat, so we can only assume that the owner is using the Living Social opportunity to gouge unknowing customers. We managed to get our coupon refunded, so all in all a good day - got our money back, not forced to give over hard earned cash to this place, and learned never to go back for framing needs. read more

Royjar is truly a terrific person. I went in with three prints that I needed framed in a rush, without high hopes for having them done on time. He cut me the mats right then and there in the store. I couldn't have been happier -- they look beautiful. He also did not pressure me to buy anything and was cognizant that I did not have a lot of money to spend. You can tell he is a true artist with an eye for color -- the speed at which he selected the right mat and size was pretty impressive. Recently got two mats cut for some artwork to hang in my bathroom. They turned out great and Rojyar was a pleasure to work with. Only reason I'm not rating 5 stars is because it took a full week to just get two mats cut (I did the mounting myself to save money). Our experience with Picasso Gallery was more than perfect and exceeded all our expectations. We brought in a very complicated piece to frame that we weren't even sure would be frameable. During covid we were able to make a quick appointment, brought our piece in and spent almost have an hour being presented with all of our options. Rojyar was very knowledgeable and extremely patient, showing us all the possible options, explaining all the pros/cons and explaining what the final product would look like. Originally we weren't going to be able to get glass on our piece because it was too difficult and expensive. Imagine our surprise when we came to pick it up and he'd managed to add glass at no extra cost!! I have used several over-priced framing places in DC and have always been slightly disappointed by the results and their pretentious customer service. I will definitely be coming back here. Great experience recently getting concert memorabilia framed for my father for the holidays. Rojyar took the time to understand what I wanted and translate that to fit within my reasonable budget. I think it's really bizarre that there are 14 FIVE STAR reviews of this place. I've gone in twice -- once a painting by a Peruvian artist in their gallery was supposed to cost $2,000 -- I did research on this guy, including asking Peruvian friends who are plugged into the arts scene, and from everywhere the response was incredulous and 'rip off.' I went in a second time to ask about stretching a $20 African fabric onto a canvas in a cost-effective way (no framing) and was told the cheapest they could do was $250. I'd say this place is probably ok, but I'm certainly surprised at the 14 full star reviews. Fishy. read more

I was really excited to get my degrees framed. I came in and the clerk was on the phone, told his friend that he had a customer and that he would call him back in 10 minutes. He then proceeding to rush me through picking matts and frames. I did not get the sense that he was at all interested in helping me find the frame that I was looking for. I'm happy to report that I had a great experience at Picasso yesterday. I have a nice but inexpensive piece of framed artwork (mat, image, glass, black frame) for my bathroom and took it to Picasso to help me figure out how to protect it from steam and moisture. I explained that after a shower, a wet spot appeared under the glass and took a whole day to dry. A few more showers, I said, and the piece would be ruined. Rojyar warned that it wasn't good to keep it in a moist environment but wondered whether it was properly sealed under the glass. He took it apart and sure enough, it had not been sealed, because it was one of those mass produced pieces (you get what you pay for). Rojyar corrected the problem and replaced the paper backing (no charge) -- still warning me that leaving it in the bathroom wouldn't be good for it. But, I bought it for only a few dollars and it adds the pop of color I need, so..... know what I mean? I definitely would take major artwork to Picasso. Not only did he fix a problem that he didn't cause, but he did it for free and gave me a $30 gift certificate towards my next purchase. What really impresses me, beyond all that, is that I left the shop knowing more about framing and framing options than when I arrived. I really appreciate this guy's expertise. read more
