I'll be the first to admit I know absolutely nothing about framing. I'll admit in the past I've even used a few of those 60% off coupons from that big chain store - I'm ashamed of course, but I'll admit it. I recently went on an Etsy print-buying tear, which left me with tons of unique art but no way of hanging it (I knew enough to know I am beyond the pushpin phase of my life). This realization also sent me into a blind panic - what good is all this cool, affordable art if I have to spend a fortune in framing? I knew enough to know it was pricey... Cue Picasso. A friend of mine lives in the neighborhood and raves about them, so one day after a belly full of disco brunch (and maybe a mimosa or two) I decided to give them a try. I was so glad I did!! Picasso is completely unpretentious, which I really liked. The space is nice and airy and open. Though I have really simple taste, there seemed to be a really good selection of frames in all kinds of styles. The guy behind the counter (I think he might be the owner's son, too) started by asking me what I was looking for - to which I replied that I really didn't know! I further explained that I liked plain frames, and was on a budget, though I did have a whopping 5 prints. Since three of the five prints I wanted framed were standard sizes, he told me I could just buy pre-made frames and mats and save myself a lot of money. Who does that?? He could have easily left that fact out and convinced me to have all 5 things done, but he didn't. The fact that he was willing to save me some money instilled a lot of confidence in me. That, in addition to the education in frames, mats, and glass that he took the time to give me, really sealed the deal for me to work with Picasso. I happily left the two remaining prints there, after receiving a great discount, and waited patiently by the phone for Picasso to call me back! The end result was nothing short of amazing. I never thought two $15 prints could be transformed like this! AH-MAZING. Absolutely stunning work. It's hard to picture (forgive the pun!) what the final product will be when you're just looking at frame samples but this exceeded my every expectation. People NOTICE these pieces when they come to my house, which I am absolutely thrilled by. I think your art says a lot about you, and I am more than happy to let the work Picasso did for me do the talking! Though I did follow their advice and get ready-made frames for my other pieces, I'm kind of sorry that I did. They looked so awful next to the custom work from Picasso that I moved them to another room! I was so happy with the two pieces that I am saving up to get the other three custom framed at Picasso - as a repeat customer they assured me that I would always get the same discount I received this time around, too. read more

i LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE PICASSO GALLERY! I ADMIT, I'm not exactly a frame or art connoisseur, however I just moved to DC and I was looking get some pieces framed for my new apartment. I asked a few coworkers, neighbors, and friends.....Surprisingly they all recommended me to this place! However since I didn't have a big budget, I figured that at least I try to get some estimates, especially since I wasn't framing anything sentimentally or financially valuable (3 prints, an old map, and 2 oils). So after going to a few places in the immediate area and shopping around, I went here. A few weeks back on a Saturday, Me and my boyfriend went to the Dupont location and I met the older son, Rojyar, who runs this location. From the moment we walked in, both of us got this amazing charismatic vibe, like I wasn't a customer. Kind of like when you think you know somebody even though you just met! Plus all the other places that we had went to were almost indifferent and curt when we asked for "Just an Estimate"! Not at Picasso! He literally spent 2:30 hours with us, chatting, showing me pretty much every option possible. As far as design ideas, he showed us things and gave us different choices that none of the other places had. We really felt an amazing rapport on choosing the colors, frames and mats. In the duration of the time that we were there, 4 other customers came in to pick their pieces up. All of them were ecstatic with their finish products! So any doubts as far as the quality and crafting of the end product were out the window! I must admit, I actually felt kind of bad after he spent all that time with us, because from the looks of this place (clean, immaculate hardwood floors, enthralling original pieces on the wall, and gorgeous one of a kind frame samples) both of us thought it was going to be the MOST expensive... WRONG! It was actually the 2nd most inexpensive!! And honestly, the cheapest place which was only about $40 less (total), the guy that helped us reeked of pot! Yes, weed! And he was very short, and impolite with us. At one point we even had to wait for him to finish a 5 minute personal call! So it was a no-brainer! We paid, and returned about ten days later....Everything turned out tremendously beautiful, we were so pleased with the frames and colors we'd chosen! I mean it was even better than we'd imagined! And since then I've recommended everybody I know! Like the other guy says, everything they frame ends up being a Picasso! read more

I get both personal but a lot more work stuff framed, maybe 4 times a month. During the past years, I've gone through more than my share of frame shops, like an elephant goes through peanuts! And No I'm not Crazzzy! My reasons are aplenty! Dusty dirty glass, shoddy/slapdash frames, discolored or wrong color mats, disgusting attitudes, nasty service, just downright sloppy jobs, careless handling and damaging my art/work projects, sell you 1 frame and give you another, 1 guy whose name I won't care and mention was about to dry hump me before I careened out his shop! Eehhww. The way I see it is if you're paying for something you might as well be happy with it. I for one refuse to settle for bull****. As you can see if there's a framing hell, I've more than likely been through it. And before I found Picasso this month, I was what my friends diss as a serial framer! I just go to one place once or twice because of fickle service, price, quality. Well, thanks to Yelp and Picasso, I don't have to worry about being diss as a serialist! I stopped into Picasso on 17th street a few weekends back and dealt with the owners son, Rojyar. He was wonderful! I got along really well with him, like if we were old schoolmates. Jeff G. was right, he was very polite, professional and he knew exactly what I wanted. I had 3 pieces with me, 1 work and 2 personal. I really loved the way how for each one he showed me 4 different but aestheticaly pleasing options, all priced from inexpensive and elegant to moderately expensive and stunning. I opted to splurge a lil since I'm familiar with framing, I knew the prices he quoted me were very good and reasonable. We sealed the deal, then I went back yesterday to pick my things up. Not only did he live up to all the marvelous Yelp reviews, but he surpassed them with really pristine crafting of all 3 projects, excellent service, and his unbelievably true and fabulous design advice he gave me. Both my things look like I bought them at auction from the smithsonian art gallery or sothebies! I'm never going anyplace else! If I could give a 6 star review, Picasso would get all 6 of them. read more

The wife and I needed to get our Ketubah framed. We were worried since we've both had some not so hot past framing jobs. If you're into custom framing, you'll get framed using the wrong framer! We got some input from our kith by asking our parents and of course Yelpies, who steered us to Picasso. Rojyar was nifty about the frame motif, color coordination, and design. We wanted an elaborate fancy gold frame with a white/sage double mat. Forget-about-it. He averted us against the idea by showing us more classic dramatic options, and we saw the airy fairy white/sage combination was actually the focal point, not the Ketubah. Going back and forth, he showed us probably a thousand options, because my wife and I are poles apart when it comes to personal brio. He prodded us to see eye to eye by showing us this dramatic dark charcoal mat which accentuated our Ketubah. Instead of the boring sage accent, we went with his advice again on a gold inner frame thing called a filet with an amazing yet simple gold distressed frame. Some customers came in for pick ups that day, and everybody was impressed or happy with their end results. So any misgivings or qualms we had were gone. We walked through the entire process, to boot how he does EVERYTHING himself, which sat well with us, since it left no room for mistakes. We went in last Saturday to pick up our Ketubah...It looks Amazingly phenomenal....Suffice to say, we'll always be faithful Picasso customers! Picasso blew away even our most stringent standards. I really love this place! My girlfriend had framed something here awhile before we'd moved in together, then last month we bought an awesome modern oil painting at Arto-matic. So we went back to Picasso for getting it framed. I was not looking forward to getting the frame because I've never really had anything framed except my law degree, which cost me something like $400 and came in a pre-fab frame from the Georgetown University frameshop. We paid $750 for the painting at the artists studio, I figured we're probably spending $1000 to get it framed! Its funny how framing always ends up costing more than the actual art does! But good thing I was actually wrong! We went in saturday on July 4th. Rojyar, explained the different parts of the process, which I found really cool, sincethis was my first time doing framing. He asked us things like what kind, color furniture we have, the wall color, what kind of taste we have. He defined the terms, contemperary, conservative, and classic for me because I had no idea what he was talking about. We agreed on a frame we liked the most. Then he made my July 4th, when he told me it cost $220! They're having a awesome 30% off summer sale! We just picked it up today after work, and it looks beautiful. I must say that even though I read all the favorable and appreciative reviews of Picasso, I was still kind of cynical. But that's just because I'm a cynic and one of those people who has to "see it to believe it" for themselves. Well folks, I went, I saw, I bought, and I'm a firm believer in the prowess of Picasso! Jeff G.'s said it word for word, "real deal pros of museum quality framing" cause he's right on the money! I had 3 things, a print, seriagraph, and photo that they did for me. I've had things framed every now and then and their prices were just as unparalleled as their service and the finished product. All of them look exquisite! The corners on the frames line up exactly, the glass is immaculate and clean, and the bevels and colors for the mats on the seria/photo are just remarkable! I've gotten so many compliments from family and friends. I've already referred my sister and cousin to them. I'm also smitten with the fact that Picasso is a family business because then you always know who you're dealing with. They know your taste, budget and that entails "consistency in their price, quality, service and product." Picasso is undeniably the BEST frame shop in all of DC!!! Take my word for it, because I get stuff framed often. Or better yet, go try them and find out for yourself! Until recently that I was recommended to Picasso on 17th street by my girlfriends' mom, I would sometimes end up going to different frame place each time I had a frame job because there was never one frame shop that got everything done totally right! Picasso gallery has awesome prices, fantastic quality, and great service. The facility is very clean, with all these different beautiful styles of original oil paintings on the walls and a huge selection of all kinds of frames. Abdi was very patient, kind, and friendly. He spent almost an hour showing us everything he could do, while almost 4-5 people came in for pick ups. Whom all of were stoked with their framing. Abdi was so generous because since we wanted to display our Ketubah during the ceremony, he cut the mats for us, mounted everything, and gave it to us in a perfectly packages clear plastic sleeve. After the wedding, we returned it so it could be framed. All I can say, is OMG! It turned out so gorgeous with the dark grey mat and ornate gold frame he suggested. I mean the frame style, the clear museum glass, the finished glistering colors, is just totally UHMAZING! We have seriously not stopped getting compliments from all our friends and family! Me and my wife found Picasso through family recommendations. They are simply, "the Best"! We've been to their Tenleytown location many times and worked with both the father/son team. We just moved to Adams Morgan, now we go to the 17th street location. Their prices are very fair, and their work is without a doubt, museum quality. We've both framed things, a few at really expensive, high end galleries frameshops and there was always some hold up or issue. These guys are the real thing! They know what they're talking about and always offer us great ideas and choices of different frames. We really really like the fact that they do everything THEMSELVES, IN-HOUSE!! They also carry a huge and rare collection of frames, and they always match our budget and design needs. We've recommended them to everybody. I was exceptionally thrilled and delighted with the 2 pieces that I had framed at Picasso. They helped me with selecting 2 beautiful frames, getting the right color mats and the ultraviolet protecting glass for one piece that has lots of sentimental value. I did shop around but not only did they offer me the lowest price, a great selection of frames, but they gave me the best service. It wasn't my first time framing something, but this was a whole new experience and standard in customer service! They even delivered them to my apartment free of charge since the pieces wouldn't fit in my car once they were framed. Not only will I have all my future things framed with them since I'm now a staunch believer in the incredibly fantastic work that they do, but I'll also recommend this great little neighborhood gem to everybody I know. Wonderful local business that does all framing in house. I've had a few things framed at various places before, but have never had as great an experience. The owner (Rojyar) was there when I walked in, he was really patient and helped me choose mats/frames for three very different pieces of art. His attention to detail, and eye for color and design resulted in framing that not only complimented my art, but enhanced it. Not an easy task considering they seem to carry hundreds of frames that would suite any number of projects! I will definitely be back, as I tend to collect art when I travel and what better way to showcase them than by working with a talented local! I didn't end up using this option, but they do offer free delivery and pick up services for your art if you need it. My bf and I had a huge J. Pollack poster we needed to frame. We called a few places and then 1 day I went in for a quote since they're our neighbors. The quote was fair, but most of all I really like how this friendly family runs their gallery. Its very clean, professional, with lots of frames and original art on the walls.... You don't feel pressured to buy something like some of the other places. And like everybody else has mentioned, they make all their quality frames themselves with first name basis service & affordable prices. Just like Rosebud Liquors nextdoor (which I love)! These guys also have 2 really cool adorable chihuahua mascots who're always lounging in their window.... Its an awesome idea to attract new customers! I came in with many projects I wanted to have done on a limited price-range. They helped me out and explained ALL of my options thoroughly. I was deployed to Iraq for 10 months; while i was there i saw 2 beautiful paintings that i instantaneously fell in love with... The problem is one had a quarter size rip through the middle. I took it to few galleries, and none were able to repair it or even frame them fearing it may ruin the paintings further. On one occasion I was told that that painting was worthless and i should just get rid of it. I was sadly disappointed until a close friend recommended Picasso gallery. I took my painting to Picasso gallery with not many expectations, but i was AMAZED with the restoration and repair they did. When i got the painting back i was floored with quality of their repair. I framed 3 antique maps, and a oil painting by my mom. I told them what I wanted, and they matched my style and budget with a lots of different mat/frame choices. I was very happy when I picked my stuff up. So I'll go back with my future framing because they also told me, I'll always get a sizable discount as a returning customer. While we did go a bit over our budget, we took our time and shopped around thoroughly before going to Picasso, who gave us a superb deal and did a great job. My wife always using Yelp to find places. But I'm a dentist, so I don't really give credit to Yelp reviewers because of no guidelines and so many crazy people. We call many framers for estimate but we're impress with advice from Esy working in Picasso. We decide to go there, but pick a different frame & mat color then we planned base on his intelligent advice. He call us a week earlier then we expect to tell us it was done. Wonderful!!!! I have gone there now for four different pictures to be framed. I've always worked with Rojyar, who is very helpful. He provides me with plenty of options for frames and mattes, but also is willing to provide his opinion when I'm not sure which direction to go in. He even remembered me even though the last time I was in, was over four months ago. Everything turns out wonderful--good quality and friendly service.
