I often grab some white rolls when I'm making hamburgers, because they're easy to get to on my way home. They do have a lot of competition in the location that they are in, but for the products that they offer, they're every bit as good as the others. I haven't yet had any pies or sausage rolls there, but the people are lovely and chatty, and I've always walked out feeling as good as you could expect when you buy something at a bakery. I'm not a huge fan of the pies, the pastry was soggy and the filling a little on the bland side, but the pasties were ok. The pastry was flaky (though again the filling was on the bland side). Not a stand out bakery, but worth going their for their bread.

I was not impressed, the decor was really run down and the place looked like it needed a good dusting and some windex. The table cloths were ripped and dirty from a few days ago and no one had bothered to clean anything. The plates still had some food left over that had become hard on the bottom. The coffee tasted burnt and the froth looked like a pavlova sitting on my coffee. My pie was cold in the centre and the taste was not of what I was told, it was worse. I really wanted to give this place a great review because of what others have told me but mind you they hadn't been back for years so it makes sense to me. Whatever it was in the past that had everyone talking about this place, it seriously needs to go back to it. Or renew it all. You cannot continue with the state of the place and the pies as it stands.

I made the mistake of living around the corner from this bakery for 2 years. I say mistake, because it definitely was for my waistline! They have a huge range of cakes, slices, hot food, bread. The recipes are authentically French and are the way they used to be in a French boulangerie-pâtisserie 50 years back. The original owners sold it a few years back and there were some teething problems- staff that didn't smile at customers, almond croissant filling portion too little, lack of French atmosphere. However, in the meantime the old recipes survived (the old owners passed on all their recipes- I miss the friendly bonjour in the back with big smiles) and the next generation of customers can enjoy them and the service has improved. I have been coming on and off to this bakery since the 1990s and I still reckon the almond croissant is the best in town, only served on weekends, made freshly with the cream filling....a special Camberwell tradition. Do yourself a favour...come early on the weekends to not miss out on the almond croissants. Nice to see Orangina drinks for sale, too!

All baked on premises, the guys at Heavenly Pies stock all your favourites varieties, and don't neglect the vegetarians either. I love their range of vegie rolls. Sausage roll shaped pastries filled with either spinach and cheese, or a vegie medley. The spinach and cheese is a personal favourite, and the addition of fresh pasta inside really fills out the flavour and texture. Although pricier than your average bakery, this isn't your average bakery, and these aren't your average pies!
