Before we were seated the hostess had a 5 minute conversation with the waitstaff as we stood around awkwardly waiting to be seated. For the record we don't speak Italian. There was not a SOUL inside the restaurant. Not a single table was occupied. There were 4-5 wait staff present. They sat us in a tiny corner next to the glass door entrance. The waitstaff was milling around as we looked at the menus. 15 minutes later (not exaggerating) no one came to take our order, offer water or even say hello. They looked annoyed that we were there. I motioned to a waiter and pointed to the menu. He looked mad that we interrupted whatever he was doing. We got up and left! I don't know if they don't like tourists, or the fact that we don't speak Italian. We never got an explanation nor do we care to find out. Take this for what it's worth. This restaurant is it in the main touristy area. Perhaps they don't want to be bother with foreigners. Do Not Go!

Sadly, I have to cut out the second star. All this being said, I really want to go back and try the burgers. They looked and smelled delicious. The tequila selection was one of the better ones I've seen in Italy. The atmosphere was nice, the people were friendly when they talked to us. But it wasn't a Tex-Mex restaurant. I am aware this place is located in Italy, I'm aware that is nowhere near Mexico or even the great state of Texas. But if you call it Tex-Mex MAKE TEX-MEX. There were just 2-3 other tables occupied apart from us. There is a table aside with complimentary chips and a few different salsas for the time waiting for orders. Waiting was not too long, though. Fast came a finely-pureed guacamole. Followed by beef fajitas with a range of 5-6 toppings and quesadillas (mysteriously labeled in the menu as Burrito Santa Fe). Baseline meat and produce quality is very good and it reflects in the final dish. The specifics of flavors are a bit off from TexMex cuisine in the USA or Mexican cuisine in Mexico proper, but this is one of the better Mexican places I encountered in Europe so far. The most important aspect of the place, though, the one bringing up the stars, is the cocktail menu taking several pages. The place used to be previously a cocktail-only bar before adding a full kitchen. A range of cocktails use house-infused vodkas and syrups line up in labeled colorful bottles along the bar, think the flavors of oregano or black tea or Sichuan pepper. After talking to the bartender-owner about them for a bit, we got even a few complementary shots of the latter infused vodka. The infusions, mixed up with more classic alcohols, make for a complex multi-layered flavors, with distinguishable first and second and third waves. For a special cocktail serving experience, ask for a Porno Tommy.

The food was delicious and our waiter Mattisio was very friendly. We came right as the kitchen opened with no reservation so we were forewarned that it could take 20-30 minutes to get our food-- well, that was not the case. The service was prompt. We started with the complimentary chips and salsa(spicy:) and ordered margaritas. Two of the gals got the pineapple margaritas(7€) and described it's taste as "sitting on the beach." My friend and I split a 1L pitcher of the classic margarita(28€) Deliciously tasty and very strong. The only thing about the margarita-- the glass rims were heavily salted. I prefer less salt than more salt, however, a straw easily fixed that. We also got the guacamole appetizer(8€) with the salad on the side. Also delicious. The guac had a more creamy consistency than that of what I was used to but it melted in your mouth and was a good combination to even out the salty chips. The side salad that came with it had a nice crunch and was drizzled with a creamy dressing. Soon after we had finished devouring the guacamole and chips our entrees arrived. My friends each ordered the the quesadillas(8-10€) one with vegetables and the other with funghi. They cleared the plate and said they enjoyed the dillas. My other friend and I split the pollo fajitas! (22€) They were some of the best fajitas I've had, especially after an overdose of Italian food. You could tell the seasoning did not come from your usual "fajita seasoning" packet but the dressing was made in house and it was tasty. Sizzling hot and packed with fresh chicken. Along with the chicken came flour tortillas and a side of cheese, tomatoes, refried beans and homemade sour cream. I am not one who likes sour cream but this places' cream had something addicting about it. We both cleared the plate! To top off dinner, we had a few more tequila shots. The night was already good, but it got better. The waiter gave us some of the shots as a gratis! That was a pleasant surprise. As college students new in Milan we were looking for a fun place to dance the night away. Mattisio was helpful in suggesting a few good places that stroked our dancing fancy. Finding this small gem in Italy really hit home in curing our guacamole(food) cravings and the service was great. I would definitely come back if I find myself in Milan or the area again.

I opted to try pork tacos with grilled pineapple, and fresh octopus with avocado, cucumber and radish in salsa macha. Talk about wowing me from the start! Grilling the pineapple brought out an extra layer of sweetness that tenderized the pork even more, for melt-in-your-mouth juiciness. The creamy avocado with fresh cucumber and spicy radish paired great with the octopus, and I couldn't wait for my next course! Upon recommendation from the waiter, I tried the tender lamb, which was slow cooked for 5 hours and wrapped in banana leaves. Perfectly seasoned with a variety of herbs and spices! I'm happy I listened! I can never pass up churros with chocolate sauce, as they piqued the interest of my sweet tooth. To finish the meal, I enjoyed a biscuit covered in sweet potato puree, cream cheese with cinnamon, ice cream and caramelized peanuts. We'd walked past Mexicali a couple of times and felt like we should finally stop by and try it. The mixed fajitas were surprisingly good and flavorful! The tortillas were warm when they came out and tasted like they were home made. The guacamole was missing some flavor but it all scratched the itch of missing guacamole. My friend had the vegetarian enchiladas (which they gave her at lunch time, though it is a dinner menu). Her dish came with Mexican rice and black beans. The rice wasn't great but the beans had a good flavor that went nicely with the enchiladas. Unfortunately, the chips and salsa don't live up to par. It has way too much tomato, and not enough onions, cilantro, jalapeños, etc. We ate it because it had been so long since we'd had chips but keep your expectations low on the salsa. We'll be back to have our same dishes, simply because they bring a little piece of home to Milan. But just keep in mind that this is Italian-Mex, and not Tex-Mex.

We originally went in for the advertised jalapeños rellenos but they were out. We think we were overcharged; we weren't sure because the menu doesn't clearly state the prices for the tacos. It just says "starting at 2€". I would have given them an extra star because the food wasn't terrible & prices were good BUT more importantly, the gentleman who we paid at the register, who handled our cash, who texted on his phone for a while, was the same person who also prepared/cooked/served our food without washing his hands or wearing gloves. He handled the raw ingredients then handled the taco shells, etc. Everything happened so fast that I didn't say anything. Food safety doesn't seem to be a gigantic priority in a lot of restaurants around the city but I don't want to be reminded when I'm standing right in front of you watching what you're doing & I see you have all the time in the world to take 15 seconds to wash your hands.
