I've come by Pier 40 many times while out run training. This area offers many nice views along the water of the Hudson, NJ, and city skylines. For a few past events we have boarded the Hornblower yachts here. We've also had a few cocktails at City Vineyard on a nice summer afternoon while enjoying the scenery. Nice area for both locals and tourists to take a walk and enjoy the views. read more

I ventured over to this area with my sister the other evening to try out City Vineyard, the newest Restaurant Bar & Wine Garden to set up shop on Pier 26. The area is beautiful, boasting views of the Hudson River, NJ and NYC skylines. There is a dog park nearby as well as a walkway which makes it easily accessible by foot or bicycle. Parking is available across the street but only on Sundays or Mon-Fri after 6/7pm. I've never been on this side of the West Side Hwy this far downtown but I was definitely feeling the vibe, probably more so since it has been sunny, warm and bustling with people. At the boathouse, they offer kayak rentals; I'm unsure of the price but I did notice a sign on Wednesday that said they were offering free kayak rentals that day. There is a dog park with a dog run, lots of benches for people and view-watching and there is even a few patches of green to sit on and relax. It's a beautiful place to watch the boats and kayakers passing by or maybe enjoy a drink and a bite to eat. I've been wanting to bike ride the length of the West Side and it's good to know that there's a nice spot awaiting for a reprieve before having to head back North. read more

Pier 26 is a welcome addition to the sprawling Hudson River Park, located right next to...you guessed it - pier 25. Open for events, but still under construction, Pier 26 has been home to a handful of concerts that we were able to enjoy during our beach volleyball games right next door. Most recently, they hosted Rapture on the River in conjunction with gay pride week and the recent federal legislation. A few of us took a walk over to further explore, and learned that they're setting up a large dog park, some environmental habitats, a boathouse, and a restaurant. I'm assuming that once the pier is completely finished, they probably won't host concerts; all that foot traffic works best on the concrete that's there right now. As a frequent visitor to Pier 25, I'm continuing to watch the ongoing development from right next door, and look forward to the soon-to-be-finished Pier 26! read more

Came for a brunch cruise hosted by Suede Restaurant in Brooklyn on the hornblower yacht. My sister wanted to do something different for her birthday. We arrived at 2 pm to board and didn't start sailing until 5:30 pm. Other then the late start it was a great boat ride. Reggae music, good food and super packed. The host was a dj from WBLS. (I can not recall his name. He dj on Sunday nights always playing Reggae tunes.) Mr. Vegas made an appearance and sang some old and new hits. It was a beauitful atmosphere on the boat. The NY view was lovely. Definitely will come back. Tickets were $60 read more

Met with friends for a three hour cruise around Manhattan. The staff was very helpful. The boat pushed off on time at 9 pm. We got great seats near the window and had fantastic views of the city by night. The music was pumping. The dance floor was full all the time! However th music was of one genre. Not sure if that was the theme of the boat ride, but we( at our table) would have appreciated different types of music. Line dances are always popular. The DJ only played The Electric Slide! The bathrooms were not kept clean throughout the whole event. Overall, we had a good time enjoying friends' company. read more

Hands down my favorite free activity spot in Manhattan! You can jog on the clean, wide path along the river and play basketball, soccer, and tennis. All the courts and fields are well-maintained. As for my favorite activity? Kayaking on Saturdays! Everything's provided: 1- or 2-seater kayaks, lockers with locks, even a simplistic public shower to rinse off! You technically have 20 mins, but you can go for longer or shorter. The volunteers are so nice and chill, unless you are one of those troublemakers who goof around and flip your kayak over! Even on a Sunny Saturday afternoon when it's the busiest, you don't really have to wait in line. It's the best! read more

Beautiful area and scenery to chill, run, walk or head to a boat ride in the summer which is what I was doing that last time I was here. My friend and I were going to the Shadow nightclub boatride on a Tuesday evening and it was packed. Its a great area to take some pictures, I think they were showing a movie further down from where we were. Definitely a sight to chill and sightsee. read more

My life in NY would not be the same without this place. Soccer is my life and it's just amazing how there is a field as nice as Pier 40 in NYC. Play pick up games on Thursdays/Friday/Saturday nights. You gotta come at night and experience soccer at night. Until 10:30PM, all the field are booked with tournaments/leagues/etc. We play wherever it's open and the lights go off around 12:30AM. Sometimes you spend much of your life passing by places, without giving them too much thought or notice. Such is the case of this pier, which I normally pass while strolling or biking. Sunset cruises and private yacht sailings do take off here, and there is even a sports area that I have never bothered to check out. But two events have now permanently entrenched happy memories onto my mind. This was where I waited to board the Hornblower cruise for the Yelp Holiday Hangover, an eat and drink filled cruise of fun and laughs with fellow Yelpers on a wintry day. And this was also where I went to view that rarity in astronomy, the solar eclipse. Like acolytes seduced by our druid master, we made our way to the pier, everyone giddy, excited and happy. People showed up in masses, with homemade viewers made of card stock or cereal boxes, with special viewing glasses. And as special as the eclipse was the true warmth I saw in people, the kindness, as strangers loaned strangers their glasses, asked about their homemade science projects, and complimented and spoke to other with open friendliness, and curiosity. One couple praised my rather sloppy viewer, made last minute on the fly, and asked to photograph the pale reflection as if they were envisioning a work of art! Others willingly offered me a peek through their glasses to see those two wondrous orbs, as they passed each other, until the moon seemed to wear a crescent of fire. Over at Pier 40, we waited patiently as the clouds came and passed, and gasped in awe when we finally saw the orange crescent of the sun behind the black moon. Even reflections of the eclipse on my card stock brought uncommon thrills. We tried selfie mode shots; we tried taking pics of the sun through the special glasses. I certainly didn't care that none of my pics looked nowhere near an eclipse. It was the communion that made everything spectacular, a sense and love of our shared humanity. The sun and moon, with their brief celestial dance as one, had spun an enchantment to give us all, weary and worn from the recent spate of depressing news, a renewed sense of hope and camaraderie. And that was indeed as magical as the solar eclipse. read more

The Key Port for The Hokule'a (Hawaiian outrigger canoe sailing around the world using only star navigation techniques) in the United States. This pier was a great size for the ship, it's crew, and all of the supporters who came out to celebrate what they have accomplished so far. I am very glad that my family was able to participate in this event and enjoy what Pier 26 has to offer. The stage, tents, and port-a-poties that were set up for the event seemed well spaced and convenient to navigate. Pier 26's proximity to the water park, skate park, and mini golf course at Pier 25 make this a pretty kid friendly location. The short walk to Nelson A. Rockerfeller Park also makes this a desirable location to start a relaxing day from. No people from New Jersey or New York were harmed during the writing of this review. Today I took my son to the Hudson River Park Celebrating 20 years event. The coolest part is the fishing but we had to wait a long time in that hot sun. Everybody was friendly but there are better places in the city for kids. There were people getting a tan there as well. So maybe if you want a place to put a bikini and get a tan and you are in the area, it could be useful. Fishing takes place every Sunday and Monday evenings. Pros: Decent public restrooms Cons: Expensive food and not a lot to do. read more

Downtown Boathouse Pier 26. Monday thru Friday its from 5-8 I think and on Saturdays and Sundays, it opens at 10-3 or 5. Its free! And they also make you sign a waiver that states you are responsible for yourself. You are 18 or over and know how to swim. They give you a lock for your locker which is amazing cause you can bring stuff and put it. Love this place and its absolutely great to come with a group of friends when you want to. SIDENOTE: you do not need to bring a lock. You DO get wet so if you dont like the wet feeling, bring tights, switch into them, and then switch back. Or swimsuit! Go around sunset and you'll get a killer view too. Bring your phone for a little music to yourself! Far on the West end of Houston Street lies the Hudson River. And immediately before the Hudson River is the Pier 40 Complex. Inside this enormous behemoth hanger on the water lies acres of field space. Soccer, baseball and sports teams congregate and play. Adults, children, adults who want to be children... Along the edge and above sits a parking lot that holds minivans galore. This is truly a mecca for the urban soccer mom. Outside the cheering and whistle-blowing of the complex and around to the left, there's "free kayaking" and $100 lessons offering during the afternoon hours. If I had any desire to do a twist and slice kayak roll in the Hudson, I'd be here in a heartbeat. And for my needs, the little grassy areas around Pier 40 offer thankful respite from the crowds of runners and bikers rolling over each other along Hudson River Park. The grass is recessed, the view of boats and kayaks is pleasant and the stretch of highway nearby is oddly absent of horns. Now grab your balls, and get out there. How cool is this. A soccer/sports complex right off the Hudson! Who knew you could find such a beauty in the city!!! There were a few other spots but this one took the cake! I met up with some friends to get a game of football in (fútbol/soccer), and I'm sure glad someone told me about this place. It's a HUGE piece of property used majorly for parking, but in the heart of it is a huge arena of with turf that players come to practice their craft. If you see there are many kids and teams practicing on the lower level. Head to the roof for even more playing field. It's where they host Nike's NTC (NYC). We were able to get a free game going that lasted for HOURS on end. While playing you have a great view of the Hudson and Jersey as well. ps: they even have a trampoline school there. It's pretty cool to watch them learn. All in all, great place to get a pick up soccer game for free. I'll definitely be returning. read more

This review is strictly for free weekend kayaking. You hear free and you think long lines, grungy services, and excessive guilt tripping for donations. But at Pier 40, I experienced none of those things. It was as simple as signing a waiver and putting on a life jacket. Next thing I knew, I was paddling about on the water with a nice view of downtown Manhattan and New Jersey. They have lockers and they have locks. They even had a few small pastries and such out for patrons if they wished. There was hand sanitizer and an outdoor shower to rinse off as well, though I ma not sure of a bathroom. Everyone was very friendly, and even though it was dirty Hudson River water, I'll be back for more kayaking with them in the near future. Note: Be prepared to get wet. Bring an extra pair of shorts and underwear for sure. They have a changing room. read more

This place has ruined me for other "arena" shows. I typically prefer smaller clubs to see bands, but I was in town when Passion Pit was playing so I decided to check them out. What better place to see a band than outside (in perfect weather) with the NYC skyline as the backdrop? The place also had a fun festival atmosphere with food trucks and beer stands. And plenty of porta potties were available so the line to go to the bathroom wasn't long. read more

This review is only about Pier 40 Parking. They suck. So much wind inside that it blows the covers off cars. There are so many pigeons that your car will end up splattered. They changed rates without a notice, and when my phone was knocked out by hurricane, they didn't take that into account and charged me for not phoning in a new credit card. Not nice. Stay away unless you are willing to spend more than you think you will up front. read more

Amazing venue for outdoor concerts in the city. Possibly the best in the city. Just an awesome time. Beautiful skyline and night sky as backdrop to live music. Can't ask for anything better on a summer night in NY (the pitch black port-a-potties are another story!). Apparently live shows will no longer be allowed on Pier 26 after this summer?! Just heard some noise about nearby residents complaining. I'm not sure what the big deal is considering that shows only play in the summer and don't play past 10p. Real shame. read more

Beautiful neighborhood with a equally breath-taking view. The cruise I was going to board (Hornblower cruise) was stationed at this pier. Many new residential buildings were built in this neighborhood and many residents can be seen jogging on this pier. The breeze and fresh air feels amazing. If you ever get the chance, try going on a cruise around NYC. I saw all of lower Manhattan, Brooklyn and New Jersey! read more

There are more competitive leagues, all male leagues, etc, here as well. They even have an indoor soccer field upstairs! My first open air concert at a pier. Really the view was breathtaking - especially with the freedom tower behind us. My only negative qualm is that I am hella short - so if I'm not practically in front of the stage area - I have to navigate my head around really tall people to be able to see the stage. If you can buy some cheap tickets and watch a concert - definitely do at least 1. It's worth the view and really just the experience. The concert I saw was One Republic and really changed my life.
