Growing up in the church it was obvious from the first Sunday that something was contagious about this church. From the time we pulled up, to checking in our kids, to being seated there were smiles and greetings. We felt not only welcomed, but truly seen, and loved. The worship music is very intentional, not too loud or showy, just purposeful on helping us release the world and connect with Jesus. The teaching is the same, very intentional on defining who Jesus is, who we are through Jesus, and how to live out the calling of our life as a follower of Jesus. This is not about religion, it's a relationship that matters. You can find this out through their Gateway Life class which is incredibly intentional about connecting us to God's design for us. This is the best church I've attended in decades, including several cities and states. Pastor Preston is down to earth and speaks in a manner like we're having a conversation over coffee. He understands the truth of God's Word and communicates it in an applicable way. I think the teaching is solid and biblically-based. I appreciate how much he prays to hear from God. He loves his family and that affects the people. This is a loving church where I feel accepted and appreciated. I'm a musician so I am very attracted to their musical style, but also their heart. I am very pleased with the message- a good balance between Grace & Truth. Also, I like the welcome I receive & the vibe of the church. My wife and I have decided to seek out a church closer to home as we've been driving 25 miles each way to a church in Chandler since we got married 6 1/2 years ago. This morning we attended Gateway Church, which is about a mile from our house. I'll go straight to why I'm rating the church 1-star. The 35-minute sermon was inconsistent and lacking in a Biblical message. The sermon started out saying it was about a passage in the book of Nehemiah. And for about a minute Pastor Brad Larson talked about the book of Nehemiah. But never during the remaining sermon did he ever return to the book of Nehemiah or relate anything back to it. The sermon ended up being what I'd classify as a somewhat secular motivational speech, peppered with random Bible verses from all over the Bible that didn't really fit. It's like the random Bible verses were forced into the message to attempt to give the overall message some scriptural legitimacy. It was just a very convoluted message where the Bible wasn't the center of the message. We left the service thinking it was more of an "experience" than "worship." When we got home, I went to the Church's website to read more about the church and about Pastor Larson. As his biography on the church's website didn't say a lot, I went to Google and discovered that he has no theological education and no seminary degrees. His time in college was spent studying Business Administration and until recently his career was with GoDaddy as an account executive. Google searches also show allegations of impropriety while with GoDaddy. Pastor Larson is a great public speaker and obviously has great skills as a motivational speaker, but we're uncomfortable with his lack of Biblical training and lack of seminary education. In seeking a church, we believe a church should be founded on the Bible, with pastors who have been trained in seminary to understand and teach the Bible. The church website likes to describe itself as "spirit filled," but we'd rather find a church that is Biblically grounded. Update: Since leaving this review, I've been attacked by anonymous members of this church. read more

We have lived in the valley for years and grew up catholic but had a hard time finding a place we loved. Our friends invited us and we immediately felt welcome and like we were home. Preston is an amazing leader and someone you know has an great heart and spirit . The entire church is just the best, we can't say enough great things. read more

The Holy Spirit is in this place!!!! CCV is my home church, and I don't see myself transitioning to Gateway full time, but this church has power. If you're open to it, the music will completely fill you- I found myself with chills and an overwhelming sense of joy throughout the service. The two sermons I've witnessed were also highly applicable and engaging. I also recommend getting involved with their women's ministry. The Pink events are so much fun!! I will definitely be trying to hit one of their services in addition to my home service at CCV each week. read more

UPDATED REVIEW: We no longer attend this church for multiple reasons. I encourage anyone to be prayerful and allow the Holy Spirit to guide you. He will always lead and guide us into all truth. Remember, we are to test all spirits because things aren't always the way they appear or sounds. OLD REVIEW: My husband and I have been praying for a long time to be part of a church like Gateway. Our hearts have been yearning for a home church where Jesus is glorified and is led by the Holy Spirit! So grateful God has answered our prayers!! Every pastor here is great! This church has wonderful spirit filled worship and occasionally good teaching. It lacks in opportunity to connect consistently. I have attended Gateway for 5 years but find now i am starving for fellowship. The turnover of staff and people who attend is significant. It has been very hard to build relationships. It is sad because it could be a very good church but often Pastor Preston and Brad dont listen to honest feedback and think their church is amazing. read more
