We stumbled across Pilot Mountain Vineyard and Winery on our way home to Cincinnati after visiting Raleigh. The setting of this gorgeous winery is worth the visit alone. The couple who owns the winery is very nice and welcoming. Pilot Mountain Vineyard and Winery offers a selection of dry and semi-dry wines, and you can opt to do a white wine flight or a red wine flight. I indulged in the white wine flight and really enjoyed each wine. I tend to only be a semi-dry to sweet wine drinker, but I really enjoyed the dry wines here as well. I especially liked that the oak barrel wines, like the oak barrel Chardonnay, did not have an overbearing oak taste. The Charm also had a nice finish. I highly recommend a visit to this winery if you happen to be in the area. read more

First time visiting Pilot Mountain Winery. Kari and Mark are so nice. It was a delightful time all around. The weather and atmosphere were great! We arrived expecting more sweet wines than not, but. Turns out that most of them are semi-dry, which is right up my alley. I had both of the tasting flights: Light flight: Viognier: excellent Unoaked Chardonnay: never my thing Mountain mist blend: viognier + Riesling + Pinot gris (very very nice Cranberry delight: refreshing and tasty Dry flight: Oakes Chardonnay: still not my thing but it's a good chard Cabernet franc rose: good rendition! Merlot: one of my favorites for sure Pinnacle essence (blackberry merlot): tasty and interesting. Overall, the win is good and I had a nice, slow afternoon. Beautiful! read more

The views were great but the wine was either extremely light and underwhelming or one note. Bottles average $25, which is a good price for a halfway decent wine, but the only one that was close to that was the Viognier and it was not worth price of $25. read more

We came here for the first time this past weekend, and it is instantly my favorite vineyard! I can't say enough about the view, but that speaks for itself. What I really want to speak on is how welcoming the owners Mark and Kari were to us. We felt truly welcomed and like they really appreciated our business. They treated every customer that way too. Even with bringing the kids along (yep, we were those people), they seemed genuine and wanted to make sure we had a good time. Wines were on the dry side, so be aware of that if you prefer sweet wine. Lace and I do prefer sweet wine, but we did enjoy these wines as well. Even the sweeter wines are just a "touch" of sweet. The slushees are must have, particularly on a hot day. They were so refreshing and went down way too quickly! Prices were average I think. We paid a steep bill but also ordered a lot! Overlooked is the inside bar area, which is spacious and so clean! There is bar space and tables as well. Be sure to check out the events listed, as they have music, food truck events, and even late Saturday morning yoga! They have the adjacent house on the property for rent listed on Air BNB, which I can only imagine is an incredible experience as well. I really can't wait to visit again in the near future! Patio is cozy and clean, and there's a fire pit which must be so nice for those autumn evenings to take in the foliage to accompany the mountain view. Let me just start by saying I am not a mountain person and honesty I couldn't wait to get out of them, but, the view of Pilot Mountain from this vineyard is worth the trip alone. The owner was very warm and made us feel welcome and comfortable. The wine was typical NC wine but tasty enough that we bought a bottle. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy your glass of wine, inside and outside. They have fun games to play, and cheese and crackers if you're hungry. And, they don't allow children so it truly is a relaxing experience. read more

The host and hostess, who I believe are the owners, made this experience positive and enjoyable. It is obvious they care about your visit. The porch view is lovely. However, the inside is much more comfortable on a hot southern summer afternoon. The viognier was my favorite of both tasting sets. It was perfectly light for summer. This place did not disappoint in any way. The owners were present and engaging, walking us through everything from parking, table selection, wines, snacks and kept coming by to check on our experience, what we liked, asking us about us, it was so great. Best customer service we have had at a winery, speaking of Wine.. a small selection but what they do they do well. Chardonnay was perfect with both a barrel and stainless option speaking to both sides of our party. We left with a case of wine and will be back. And you can't beat the view. read more

So the views are amazing and the wine was ok. I had my dogs with me and found the owner to not be pet friendly and even said they advertise they are not pet friendly. So, that they me off as we sat outside and if your pets are friendly, why not be pet friendly. He did allow us to stay, but that just put us in unwelcome state of mind. The wines were ok but when he brought out our samples, he gave us no paper so we did not know what we were tasting. That would have been helpful. The views are beautiful though. The view of Pilot Mountain is stunning and the outdoor patio is perfectly arranged to admire this view. The tasting was reasonably priced and the 8 wines we tried at our tasting were about average relative to other North Carolina and Virginia wines that I have tried. What a stay! We had a wonderful trip to Pilot Mountain Vineyards. It was relaxing and both Kari and Mark were the perfect host. Not only did we an amazing tour of the property, a good nights rest, the opportunity to cut a couple vines, a home cooked meal, we had some great conversations with with Kari and Mark. I enjoyed hearing there stories and have the outmost respect for these two. This place is so quaint, we enjoyed the local wine and tasting room and would certainly come again when we can use the pool. I highly suggest visiting the vineyard and taking a hike on Pilot Mountain! read more

We stopped by for their cupcakes and wine event after a hike at nearby hanging rock and it was the perfect way to end the day. The spot is gorgeous, overlooking pilot mountain and the outdoor patio area is the best seat in the house on a nice day. We enjoyed several desserts brought in for the event (mini cheesecake, brownie and mini cupcakes) and each got a flight of wine. They had recommended pairings for the cupcakes which was fun and everything was pretty reasonably priced. They also had some board games available inside which is a fun touch. It looked like they had several other events coming up including food trucks and music which I would love to check out. read more

Understand that this winery only opened 3 months ago. The vineyard has been here since 1996 as the previous owner sold grapes to other wineries in the area. So, the vines are mature. We are always suspicious of wines in North Carolina that we haven't heard about. In this case, we were really glad we took a chance. We passed on a tasting but bought a bottle of Mourvedre. It was a great choice as it was a solid dry red. We sat on the patio that looks at Pilot Mountain. It is a spectacular view. If you are looking for a new (that's not so new) winery in north central North Caroline (up 52 just south of Mt Airy) try this one. BTW, we struck up a conversation with the people next to use and they told us the Chardonnay was dry and excellent. We'll definitely try that next time! read more

Highly recommend doing their flights, the blends are so good. They have a large tasting room and covered patio with comfortable seating. My husband and I have been to numerous vineyards in the area and I can say this is the nicest privately owned tasting room around, I'm hoping we are able to host an event with them at some point. read more

Aside from the obviously beautiful mountain view Kari and Mark elevate this getaway. From the smallest details in the house which is decorated by Kari (be sure to look at all the little pictures and knickknacks as they give you an insight into the hosts), to the sparkling clean pool make it a wonderful escape. Of course the vineyard itself is the draw. For those who simply like the taste of good estate wine, you'll be pleasantly surprised at their offerings. Although to some this may be a small vineyard, what they create is beyond expectations. To those who not only like good wine but also have an interest in what it takes to present these offerings, Mark is more than willing to take you on a tour through the grapes and behind the scenes of what goes into every bottle. It may give you a new appreciation for whats in your glass. During our stay, they were in the finishing stages of building an amazing tasting room. Again, the details into every aspect of this room is to be admired. You need to see it for yourself. We will be heading back to do just that when it is up and running.
