Went in with 1/2 of a threaded 2" union for a pool pump. Counter guy asked what brand it was- valid question. Told him i did not know but asked if they had any like it. He said yes, but couldnt tell me what one would fit it. I agreed then asked if he could bring a couple out and let me (since he was obviously very busy being as there were three staff there and me being the only customer). He said there was no way of telling; and didnt want me to even try to test fit onto their parts. No, mine wasnt dirty or anything he just didnt want to be bothered to check. Took it home, went on the ChatAI program and it identified the correct part from a photo and ordered it to come in tomorrow for six bucks. While i prefer to shop locally and would have gladly given them 20 bucks for.the part, never going back.even to buy chlorine. Customer.service at THIS branch sucks. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Wish I would've inspected the state of my pool sooner. In the beginning I had to continuously call just to ensure they actually came out; they frequently didn't show or came late from constant staff changeover. They were checking boxes on this receipt but didn't complete it and were at my house for less than 5 minutes at a time and didn't communicate at all or provide customer service so things fell into disrepair. THIS is what my pool looked like IMMEDIATELY AFTER his scheduled service; he accepted this quality of work week over week. Would you pay for this service? We don't anymore. And it took a few sessions with a decent pool professional to re-regulate our pool. The worst. Started out pretty good. Several complaints got us a new service guy. He made us very happy for at least a year. All of a sudden he's gone. Every time I called Dan to say no one was coming, he would say we're so busy. Took 3 weeks. to get chlorinator fixed and get salt. Guess what happens when you don't put salt in a salt water pool? Mismanaged. Took a completely satisfied customer and turned us into very angry customers. I'm done. Looking for new service today. read more

The pool looked great but they never cleaned the filter cartridge and the put chlorine tablets in the skimmer basket instead of the chlorinator (huge no no as anyone in the industry knows why) photo below shows what I found while my pool was being resurfaced. read more

Wow, What a day. Just like the last reviewer...I called to speak to Cindy regarding a past due bill. In the process, I mentioned my pool had not been cleaned for two weeks. Cindy rightfully insisted the pool had not been cleaned last Friday because the bill had not been paid. I insisted the pool had not been cleaned for two weeks. Cindy raised her voice and transferred me to Dan, the owners son....who did his best to speak over me, and became rude. I cancelled services! If you read the review before mine, you'll note this might be common. Btw, The parents are awesome people, but very unaware. Time to go shopping for better customer service. Mr Dan, I have a wife battling stage 4 cancer who depends on the pool for therapy..I have already found a different company to clean the pool on Thursdays, as originally agreed. I have lived here in the community since 1975. I don't know how long the store has been there, but we have lived near by the store since 2004. I have been a customer for 19years, Our pool timer stopped working, So, I called them to have it replaced. A month later it stopped working, I did find the time to get to talk to them about it for a couple of months later due to having surgery and was laid up for a while. When they came back to fix for the second time they charged me for the labor, when it comes to customer service this is the wrong thing to do. I have been in a family business all of my life and would never charge a customer twice for labor to fix something. I will never do business with them again. They lost another customer. I told him to just give me the $2.50 he said I was due even though I purchased the container within 30 days.... I told him it's such foolish biz sense to haggle over a difference of $6 for a customer who comes every week to them to get my pool tested!!! And purchase items!!! Horrible customer service. Signed up for monthly service, was told they would arrive on Thursday. No show, had to call the store and they said they wouldn't be there until the next day. When I asked what time, "sometime in the morning". Manager acted as if I was annoying him asking when I would be getting the product I paid for. Tech came and left my pump off for two days. I bought a very expensive pool cleaner here with the promise of a $125 rebate. It was unusual that the store took the upc label off the box and said they would complete the paperwork for me. Had the local store on 5805 N Wickham clean my pool for the last four years and should have fired them 3 years ago when I had my pool automated. Store manager, Frank, came out and assessed what I would need and gave me a price. I accepted And had them do the work. Only problem was that when I tried to heat the spa the spa started draining. When I called, the manager's son told me he installed everything correctly and I didn't know what I was talking about. When he came out to look at my insistence he said I needed another auto valve and they would charge me for it. I said that we had agreed on a price and I had paid the price, that it should be included in the original price. Frank refused and said he would give it to me a cost. When I got the bill it was full price. I should have gone to another pool service then but I liked the fellow cleaning the pool, Frank's nephew. Every week I get a slip of paper telling me what they have done that week. I am not here during the summer months but still have the pool maintained while I'm gone. There hasn't been a problem with this until this past week. When we returned the pool was filthy with dead leaves turned black and staining the bottom of the pool. We looked to see when the pool boy was last here and the last note left was on August 24th. I called the store and was assured that my pool had been serviced each week. I was told that he hadn't left notes since the end of August because he was afraid the notes would blow into the pool. Really? Then why not take back all the notes left up to then? I asked that they send someone immediately to clean the pool as I had company. That was on Monday. On Wednesday, I called another pool service and they came that afternoon and cleaned and treated the pool. I hired them and called Pinch a Penny to cancel their service and get a refund. I was told they would refund October but not September. My new service came back again on Friday to clean the pool again trying to get it back in shape. He told me my filter was really really dirty and that he had cleaned it as best he could but I would probably red a new filter. Today, I called and spoke to Frank and told him this. He told me that my filter was old and I purchased it back in 2011. I said how can that be when I only moved in 4 years ago. He then said that it was probably for the best that I changed pool serviced as I was a very persnickety person and they had bent over backwards trying to accommodate me. I said that yes I did call when the new pool boys left and forgot to turn the pool back on. I have an infinity pool and it seems that every time a new pool boy starts and there have been many, they have to learn how to get the pool started again after they shut it off for cleaning. For four months the person that was supposed to clean our pool didn't. Stayed for two months when that person left. What a waste of time and money. Owner had no remorse, they offered nothing in return and hardly did anything. What a useless operation. The guy with the beard is the only one worth talking to. What a joke of a business. Stay away from this place. They are crooks. I brought my pool cleaner in to be warrantied because it was not working correctly (pentair rebel bought at pinch a penny may 2017). Dan told me there's nothing wrong with it so I went back home and hooked it up and it still wasn't working. Just spinning in circles. I took it back in and told him there is something wrong with it. He was extremely rude and told me he works on these everyday and that it's perfect and that I must have a clog in my system that's affecting the suction power. So they said they could send Carlos out to blow out the lines and that should fix it. Carlos came out and blew out the lines and told me there was nothing in the lines and that he saw the pool cleaner and said here's something wrong with it. I told him I've taken it in twice and they said it's perfect. He said no there's is definitely something wrong with your pool cleaner. So he took it back to the store with him to get repaired. They fixed it and Daniel brought it back and said they didn't see that one of the gears was worn when they looked at it the 2 times before and that was the problem. He hooked it up and it started working perfectly. Then Frank (the owner) calls me and said I owe them $158 for the house call to blow out my lines and that Carlos replaced parts on my pump. I asked why am I being charged? I never authorized anything other than the lines being blown out. And I only authorized that because after two times of bringing my cleaner in he told me the cleaner isn't the problem it's my system. But we know now that it was in fact the cleaner like I said to begin with. Frank was also extremely rude when I was asking him about the charges and said "here's what we're going to do, we're going to put this in the system as refusal to pay bill and you're going to leave and never come back". I asked if this will go to collections and he said "we will send it to who we need to send it to." The entire time I have been very polite, but concerned, never raised my voice or talked with any form of disrespect. I feel like they are taking advantage of me and instead of fixing my warrantied cleaner for free, like I asked, they blamed it on my system and then came and "fixed" my system, that was never broken, and then told me it was my cleaner that was broke. And then they sent me a bill for $158 for work that never should have been done if they would have listened to me and correctly diagnosed my cleaner the two times i brought it in. read more

We have been getting our pool serviced by John, he is more worried that we have adjusted the timer to our pool due to it being very loud, and my partner and I working from home some days. I've called multiple times about our pool not being cleaned after John apparently cleaned it. Today he came, adjusted our pool timer and left. I still have leaves at the bottom of my pool, stuff floating on the top of the water, and my filter hasn't been cleaned. Which according to his checklist paper work he fully serviced our pool. I came outside at 7:25 to see our pool, John was gone, our pool was still dirty, and his check out time said 7:30. Mind you it wasn't even that time when I came out to my back porch. Over all a poor company. I've called before and been told they're going to send someone else out to check on our pool which has never happened. Pinch a Penny was not taking care of my pool properly, so I called the store and talked to the owner's son who disrespected me, verbally abused me and screamed at me like nobody has ever had. I was shocked and very confused about it. He never owned the bad service, but instead he said it was the pump without ever checking the pool. Of course, we have a different company now, which found no problem with the pump, only a very dirty pool. You don't know how to treat a woman and a customer, you would have been fired in any other company for bad service and lack of class. read more

I have been a customer of this Pinch-a-Penny location since 1999 when we built a new home that had our first pool. From Day 1, this location has been more than outstanding, more than customer friendly, and more than knowledgeable. Recently, we built another new home with a pool. As expected, the personnel and owners helped us get things started up properly to ensure we were on the right track setting up the pool. I don't know the number of pool stores I drive by to get to this location, but it is quite a few. I do not understand how anyone can rate this location with anything less than 5 stars. I have never seen or experienced any of the behaviors that some negative reviewers have shared. One would think that in over ten years I would have witnessed at least some of the behaviors described. I, too, have taken questions, concerns, or service-related problems to the store; but I have never had personnel treat me with anything but empathy and respect. Every time I have gone in to the store, the personnel have been professional and service-oriented. I'd give more than 5 stars if I could. I would never think to write a review on a pool store but when I was looking for the number and found it had poor ratings I was shocked! The service at this Pinch A Penny is the best. It is the only store I know that they know all the customers by name. If I have any issues with my pool they are always resolved quickly and without question. I can't imagine what the customer must have been like to the staff at the store to be treated poorly, it is a CUSTOMER PROBLEM not the store. read more
