We know now to avoid the beach on Easter Friday! That aside, we did find some shark's teeth, which was nice. The sand is not as pretty as other beaches in SWFL, but the water was pretty. The waves were pretty strong, but people were still in the water. The beach was packed, especially when we left around 2:30. We would return, but still prefer Casperson beach while in Venice.

SO much fun and we adored the fact that this beachside is dog-friendly which made the beach day that more interesting and fun. Clean area and plenty of parking. I was planning for the larger loop but ended making a haphazard figure eight. The trail has numbered markers. The only problem is the roads often fork, which are not always on the map. Also, I could not find the observation tower because there was no signage. I easily walked five miles, more than I intended. Also, my photo dis not capture that section near 10. Murphy's Law at work. During March, I did not need bug spray but I am glad I brought extra water. The beginning and last half mile offers little shade. Trail section 12-14 is in a wetland area and close to the highway. It was also a bit uneven. A nice array of fauna and wild irises in the wetland area. In order to see the river, you need to take a detour from one of the offshoots. I recommend number six, which also has a picnic table.

Cow Camp is nice ride too. Get a map before u ride out! Wildlife viewing opportunities are at times unbelievable. Riding conditions vary with water levels. No water available, come prepared. Dec-Apr is primetime for riding, but rides can be had at all but highest water level.

There are a few I've seen that don't pick up their dogs poop. We've always experienced nice kind people and the dogs just seemed to come around you. We have a little Australian Shepherd and she loves the Paw Park. She has never had any issues with any of the dogs, regardless of size? I highly recommend the dog beach as we call it.

A few picnic benches are available and there is even a dog wash area. To access the beach go down the sidewalk and over the boardwalk to the other side of the dune. There is about a 75 yard wide section of the beach where your dogs can roam. It's tough for large dogs to really get a long run. If you want that this beach is not for you. To do that you have to go to a non-lifeguard beach access in OBX.
