My retired LAPD buddy has the inside track on new plans to cut 17th Street Dog Park in half and add T-ball for kiddos that probably won't use it and don't really need to either. I played college baseball and I started out in my backyard hitting balls off a Brooklyn Union Gas cone, by myself with a Louisville Slugger that was bigger than me. I could barely get it off my shoulder but I wanted a professional baseball bat so badly and Santa came thru. This park has lots of grass so the large breeds can really open up and tear arse up and down, left and right and back again. Because you see, with grass they gain traction and dogs are less likely to dig holes which could cause a leg break. But let's destroy the parks of largest the loves that some families have and live to dictate our pleasures by their lives by their noise machines that are far too young to be playing this type of game. Basketball no football no baseball no tennis no golf no volleyball no soccer yes. But annoying parents on these silly boards of the who knows who, the corrupted the selfish just to see little Johnny in a uniform with the helmet fifty times too big that little Johnny can't even see. Awwww, how cuuuuute.. They can point to first base if little Johnny makes contact because little Johnny has no idea which way to run and will likely disobey and run towards third base anyway and I suppose that's good for more laughs whilst I cringe and steam. It's so cute for these follies to play out every weekend for two hours to a nail biting, exciting and riveting zero zero tie -- for the entire season. Two hours a week to take half the park? Only GOD loves you more than your DOG! #ReflectDogs Love & Forgiveness If it had a water feature it would most certainly be a five-star Park! It has a very nice double-gated entry and it has multiple places to sit that are shaded by trees in groupings all over the park. There are a couple nice water stations as well as book bag dispensers and trash cans spaced all throughout the park. There is more than enough room for your dog to get a good run going no matter how big it is. It seems like a pretty mellow and calm crowd! There is a cool little Beach area in the back that has the agility items in it. You can park right outside of the dog park on a nice dirt lot. read more

Seems like it's fine for larger dogs, but the area for the smaller dogs is literally like 10% of the park. Possibly less. Probably won't be coming back here much. read more

Huge. Clean. Well maintained during times when least used. Unlike the dog park on 10th street that is much smaller, not as well maintained and closes for an entire day & evening every week even though it is clear no one has been there to "maintain" anything that day. 17th street is clearly the better choice. read more

HUGE dog park. Knock on wood, everyone seems to keep an eye on their dogs while here. Water fountain for the dogs, poop bags, trash cans in several areas. There are agility type items set up for your dog to climb on, several shaded areas with benches. Plenty of parking. There is also a separate area for small dogs and in the large dog area there is a separate fenced off area so you can train with your dog and not be surrounded by other dogs. read more

I love this park. It's huge, plenty of room for big dogs to burn lots of energy. The people are so nice. There's shade and places to sit, which is nice for me, I'm disabled and can't stand for long periods of time. There are lots of water bowls and access to fresh water. Most importantly, the dogs have a blast. They get to play with other dogs and see lots of friends. So much fun!! Thank you Sarasota County. read more

Largest dog area in the Sarasota. Lots of grass and shaded huts. Plenty of water everywhere. Training areas and small dog areas are separated from the large breed area. Illinois dog parks are big forest preserves on lots of acres with lake, so if your from Illinois, it's a change. However, lots of dogs come here and they have a great time. Plenty of room to run combined with adequate number if shade trees, benches and picnic tables (some covered)for human comfort. Separate areas for large and small dogs. Stainless sfeel water bowls near water hydrants. More than ample parking area though a bit dusty this day since it's not paved. Great place for letting your best friend get some off-leash exercise. read more

We take our dog to many dog parks and this is our least favorite. The park is almost too big, we lose him constantly. Even though there are many sitting areas we spend the whole time chasing him and avoiding many poop piles. The size we have learned to deal with but today I was extremely disappointed as this is the only park in the area with agility equipment and it's a joke. There are maybe 3 actual pieces we could use. There seems to be remnants of a once good course but it's gone to crap now. I'm not sure how this part of the park has been completely abandoned since it is such an amenity! And my final snid bit about why we don't like this park is the fact that there is one entrance at the opposite end of the park. Meaning, we have to take our ADD dog (which is the reason he's involved in agility in the first place) down the whole park, past all the other dogs, in the sun, through mine fields of poop, and hope to get to the agility park. It doesn't happen. And if it does we end up taking 2-3 other dogs with us because they notice our treats. If you read to here I apologize for all the complaining but I'm hoping these areas will be fixed since there is nowhere else to send a complaint read more

This huge dog park appears to be the only one in Sarasota. No dogs on the beach either. While this dog park has huge potential, way to many people are ignoring their dog's poop. I watched dog after dog poop and no one picked it up. In two cases I watched as the dog owners simply watched and then call the dog away when done. Wow. This is how you lose a dog park. I would have thought the mostly older people here would show some responsibility. Perhaps some police presence would help here. And yes,even though I watched closely to avoid the mines, I still had to clean my shoes. read more

This dog park is HUGE. Acres of grassy field in an open plain with limited shelter from the sun. Pups had fun so it was well worth the trip.

This park was great! It had a football field-sized large dog area which had ample running/playing/sniffing space, including some agility training equipment, and picnic benches, bag dispensers and shaded areas. It also had a separate small dog area, which I didn't venture into, but seemed like a good amount of room for smaller dogs to exercise and play. Grassy and kept up, the terrain was good for doggy paws and people feet, and seemed free of noticeable poop, though I might not walk barefoot, as my boyfriend's brother chose to do, just in case. Paw Park has a smaller fenced area, but still plenty of room, for dogs under 25lbs. Plenty of shade available and water too. It's a great park for the pups and it's cleaned every week. Also provides poopy bags so you can clean up after your pooch. read more

I absolutely love this park. It's very spacious and has an area for smaller dogs and a third fenced in area for fun. This place is never too crowded and most are friendly. The agility area is also a nice spec to have for dogs to try something new. read more

I have been to this dog park about 5 times. The first 2 times went great and my pup had a ton of fun. The last three times have been horrible. About 2 weeks ago there were 6 dogs in the small dog area and a couple with 2 boston terriers watched as their dogs went around being way to rough with the other dogs and one of the boston terriers actually bite and wouldn't let go of a pugs face. Their only reaction was to say stop it and never said sorry or anything to the pug owner. Another time my pup was hardly in the park and a dog, way to big for the small dog area, came bolting over and was growling and nipping at me and my dog. Then the final straw happened today. I arrived at the park and 2 bichons were there. I opened the gate to enter and the male bichon came running and grabbed my dog by the collar. I got my dog and walked to the other end to get away and the owner didn't say anything to me just said to his dog,"well that wasn't nice". I stayed for another 20 minutes on the other side of the small dog area making sure his dogs were always a safe distance away. Then when we left I had my dog on his leash and was opening the first gate to go outside and his female dog bolted over and grabbed my dog by his hind legs. My dog screamed and his dog didn't stop. I tried to get her off ,but she wouldn't let go. When I finally got her off and went straight to my car to see how seriously my dog was hurt. The owner again never said anything to me!! I heard him mumble to his dog that she deserve a spanking and he didn't do anything. Just sat in his chair reading a book. My dog's skin wasn't broken, but he had some serious bruises. My thought is that if you take your dog to a dog park, your dog should behave and not attack anyone or any dog there. What I have seen at this park is just a whole bunch of dog owner's who have no control over their dogs. Now I have met a lot of nice people and dogs there, but like most things it only takes one person to ruin a good thing. For the safety of my dog and yours I do not recommend taking your small dogs there. read more

The park itself is nice enough but some of the regulars, (at least once a day) have aggressive dogs and do not watch them. My dog is a sweet Border collie and has been ganged up on by several of the same dogs on several occasions. I was warned about this by several people from other parks as well. read more

Terrific park. Not only is it dog friendly, but you can find wonderful people and make your own dog playgroup. Most people stay with their animals and use the poop bags after their dogs go. I take my little guy every day and bring home a dog that is well exercised and socialized. This Paw Park is the only reason I was able to tolerate puppyhood. I highly recommend this park. The only problem is that the land was a waste site, so you have to look for shards of glass that work their way out of the ground. A little more regular mulching would be helpful, too. Oh yeah, bring your own toilet paper. :-) read more
