went to smiths today!!!!!!!!!I had a great experience ,we needed to get some plants for the garden…read moreand we were really sucsessful today.I was really pleased with the experience today. There were thousands of plants in the garden centre, there were a lot in the inside area and an absolute abundance of plants outside. Also all plants were well kept and very watered, actually helped me keep cool in all this heat, they obviously take pride in each and every one of their plants. Also there is so much stock of everything(plants and non-plants).This has really pleased me as I've seen some garden centres which has hardly any plants and they are all neglected. However in this garden centre, they even have Christmas trees in June, but I suppose today(the day I wrote my review)is only 6 months till Christmas Eve!!!!!!!!!But I cannot see why you can't have a Christmas tree in June if you want to.I brought 3 small ones!!!!!!!!!Also I've been to garden centres in Christmas and they haven't had christmas trees. Also they were really well staffed as well, and our cashier was polite and even offered for someone to help us load the car. Also the smiths golf thing right at the back of the garden centre looks great and I'm sure will make a lot of money for the garden centre. Also their drive thru concept to collect soil was good and very well thought out,it's like a McDonald's drive thru but you show you're receipt to staff and then drive on to get the soil.Lovely experience!!!!!!!!

Smiths is a large garden centre just outside Uxbridge. There is a vast choice of greenery for sale…read morein a huge outdoor area, and also an indoor shopping area and cafe (not tried). It offers an extremely comprehensive range of products. Staff in the outside area can be hard to find but there are knowledgeable staff available if you need advice as I did when selecting a fruit tree for my garden. The level of customer service is high, I was surprised to discover that if you buy a heavy bag of fertiliser or compost it will be taken to your car on an electric carrier! So all in all a recommended place to go for garden supplies and products.

Having spent the afternoon celebrating the Year of the Rooster in ChinaTown we were looking forward…read moreto our visit to The Magical Lantern Festival. However the heavens opened and many saved days of rain poured out of the sky. Were we dispondent? NO WAY. The gardens had been transformed into a fairyland which took us back to childhood. A childhood where rain mattered not. Footpaths, with direction signs, laid out so nothing was missed. Beautiful, artistic exhibits with well signed descriptions. Wonderful. Along the way, places to drink and eat. I felt sorry for the guys in those stalls because the rain made people walk past. Likewise the entertainment area at the end. A fantastic evening out for, we felt, a very reasonable price. A tip.....wear waterproof boots as the way can get rather muddy.

The first Chinese Lantern Festival in the UK? Seems hardly believable, especially in such a…read morecosmopolitan city such as London where everything seems to be given it's time in the limelight. Well there is an old saying that "the first is the best" and if this festival is anything to go by it does seem "best-worthy" as the thousands of Chinese lanterns, both life-size and bright in vibrant colours are a breath-taking sight when taken in their entirety. The area is well cordoned off with a path to lead you through the grounds where you will be surrounded by lanterns round every corner. If you are like me and like to take photos of anything beautiful (which was basically every lantern) then you can find yourself walking for a good 2 hrs whilst taking in the displays.  The only thing I would have liked in addition to the lanterns would be some form of introduction, labelling or backstory, but I realise that it would be difficult and time-consuming to put in place. It's like if you have a museum full of wonderful pieces of art to admire perhaps you don't need any written descriptions? P.S. There is also no audio here so coming to this Lantern Festival is purely a visual spectacle but one created to the highest quality. It is important to note that whilst the entrance time is designated, there is not a time limit to your visit, so you can enjoy it at your leisure. However there is not much to eat there except at the entrance there is a burger stall and a waffle stall and within the park you can roast some mashmellows if that should tickle your fancy. All-in-all it is a feast for the eyes, an honour to be able to experience in London and well worth a visit if you like colour, lights and a walk in the park - which let's face it, who doesn't?
