The one star review is BOGUS. The writer is 1000% wrong in every respect. Ignore it completely! I posted the line above as a response to an earlier review. I received an email from a screener at Yelp stating that my review was being taken down because "it lacked personal experience" Therefore I am adding the following bit of "personal experience" By no means am I being critical of Yelp, or the screener. This is their domain, and they set and enforce the rules. I have written a regular column for PineStraw titled "Feats of Clay" which features artists and pottery events in the area. I am personal friends and serve on arts community committees with the founder and current Creative Director of the magazine. I am personally acquainted with the Editor, author of 11 best selling books on golf, the Circulation Director, two staff members, and two staff photographers. I have lived in North Carolina since 1946, and have known the family of the current owner and publisher for most of that time. While I have not yet met the new publisher, I have known his uncle, the previous publisher, for 60 years. I knew his great uncle for 40 years, and my father was one of his employees. I never knew his great, great uncle, but he was Roosevelt's Secretary of the Navy. The man from whom the current owners family purchased the parent company was a North Carolina legend for his passion for integrity and professionalism. He was a personal friend as well and we had many interactions. These people have class they have never used. They would not condone or tolerate the behavior described in the review. PineStraw is a free publication. It is distributed free from racks around the county. The reviewer is misinformed. read more

PINESTRAW Magazine is a first class monthly publication. It is very sought after from folks that even live outside of Moore County. Everytime I go to the Chancellors house at UNC Pembroke, I always bring her the lastest copy. Her friends visit and beg for it when she is finished with it. They are nice enough to be collected! The old review that stated they are sold door to door is obviously thinking of some other magazine or posted on the wrong business!! I'm proud to advertise my business in this magazine and always look forward to the new publications. read more

Pinestraw is a great magazine highlighting the art and soul of the Sandhills area. Each issue is full of insightful stories and lore that is sure to entertain every one. As I read, I am transported back to "the old wooden porch" listening to my grandparents tell me tales of their younger days. Every article brims with professionalism, humor, and sentimentalism. I have enjoyed the PineStraw magazine for years. It is an exceptional publication. The content is interesting and broad-based. The advertisements are sophisticated and creative. Just because some person has confused another group with this magazine they have the power to damage or question the professional integrity of The PineStraw magazine. Anyone that reads their review should immediately know this negative view is in left field, clueless about what they describe. I value Yelp's service and actually appreciate critical reviews when they are credible. The one star review from years ago needs to be scrubbed. I picked up my copy of Pine Straw (June 2015) at a recycling location in Chapel Hill. I looked at it expecting the usual "local" interest features: restaurants, weddings, luxury home of the month, etc. I truly enjoyed three of the stories and today, when I needed to relax, I headed straight for "pine Straw." I realized that this is a first class magazine which I would love to read regularly. Therefore I looked for the website and checked online. The price is a bit steep for me (not because 45$ a year would not be worth it), therefore I will try to read it online or look for those leftover copies... It also has made me curious about Southern Pines, a town I often go by on my way to the beach, but never stopped at. What a marvelous community it must be, to produce such a publication! And I yes, even the ads and the featured house are classy. read more
