I have since attended another movie night, a music concert and just gone with my friend to hang out and play ping pong, get a free bev (you can choose between coffee, tea and lemonade ) and just enjoy the space, maybe chat it up with some other ppl there etc. There have swings (), books, board games, free WiFi etc. All is free. They also rotate exhibits of artwork and put on a variety of workshops etc. Check out their calendar of events on their website or like their facebook page. The people who work/volunteer there are extremely friendly and nice. I love the concept! Every neighborhood needs one. It's essentially a community (play/hang out/connect) space.

Located behind the…read morebuilding that houses the NEMC emergency room facility, the Boston Chinatown Neighborhood Center popped into my life just this past year. I've had a few auditions there and they allowed us to use one of their spaces for a performance. The program, formerly called the Quincy School Community Council, moved into its current digs in 2005. The center itself has adult education classes (ESL, job search skills, etc.), childcare, summer (ages 5 - 18) and after school programs, as well as some random Saturday classes (I've seen listings for craft, dance, etc). They help out more than 4,000 people each year with their programs. Dang. Of course they're always looking for volunteers. If you want to help out.. or even teach a class (I know there are some artsy Yelpers out there).. check out their website for more details.

They provide essential services to mainly Chinese immigrants like child care and even offer yoga and bhangra dance. I didn't do any of their programs, but the place was in good order, the staff was friendly and if my grandmother lived in Boston I would most definitely recommend she visit to meet others and take music lessons, piano anyone? A quality establishment that provides a meaningful service to it's community = I am a fan.

I attended an event at the Foundry after work, which started with food in a cocktail setting before moving into a presentation. The space was long and well decorated, which was fine for the attendees to chat among themselves as they snacked and sipped. But the space wasn't the most conducive with the stage at one end. I wonder if their sound system could have been hooked up to enable everyone to hear from even the further edge. The bathroom was shared, with little private toilet rooms surrounding public sinks. Too bad we ran out of paper towels.

Our show was supposedly sold out but we lucked out that the folks seated next to us didn't show- otherwise I could see that one would be really packed in here as the seating is extremely close together. The performance was amazing! We absolutely loved the show and the intimate vibes. I also really appreciated that Fabiola took some time to explain her instrument, some Puerto Rican history and her experience growing up playing a folk instrument. She graduated from Berklee in 2018 and also brought in a Cuban tres player named Olivia Soler Espinosa in the latter part of her performance who is currently studying at Berklee. Another cool aspect of this place was the mixed ages. There was a good representation of older folks who looked like they have been coming to Passim since the 60s as well as younger folks in their 20s and 30s as well as folks in between. My wife got an oatmilk vanilla mocha latte and I went crazy (like I usually do at a coffee place) and got a cinnamon roll latte. It was literally a liquid cinnamon roll in coffee form. You could smell it through the lid! Matthew was very patient with us trying to decide! What was the best part, was that the coffee was ready to drink when we got it. So we didn't have to walk with a full cup of coffee for 20 minutes until it was sippable. I know many may not like that but it our case, it was perfect and very much welcomed!

We received thorough instructions on where to park with a map highlighting where parking was available on the nearby streets. The event started right on time and everyone who participated was friendly. As a team, we were very efficient. I would definitely come back to participate in another volunteer event with them.
