I went to Pinot's Palette to celebrate my sister's birthday. Even though it was not a private party, we were able to get a full table reserved for our group. They had an ice bucket to chill our drinks and a table in the back reserved for us to put any extra alcohol or snacks that we brought. They also provided us wine glasses to drink out of which was so convenient! I really liked that the host had a microphone attached to her and the volume was loud enough to hear her over the chatter from birthday festivities and other group conversations. I came here for a private party and had a great time. The staff was accommodating with letting us set up some decorations, and were happy to take a bunch of pictures for us afterwards. We also were able to leave our art for a couple of hours so we could go to dinner which I appreciated. I've been here twice and both were fun experiences! It's not that expensive considering how long you're here for. Parking is VERY difficult so come early. How easy it is to follow instructions largely depend on your instructor. I felt like I had to watch what they were doing rather than listen to them, because what they said they would do vs what they actually did were very different. Overall a fun, affordable outing! We tried this place for a Paint & Sip. The directions were very clear and the instructors were all very helpful and delightful. Wish they had given designated times for snacks and Sips and more socializing. But I understand there's is only so much time they could accomplish a whole lesson and time for food/drinks. Although we had most of our supplies for a themed birthday party they did have extra plates gloves and ice when I ran short. [622] Whew .. This place is popular. Visited with a birthday party and the Sunday morning class sold out. Looks like it hold about 56 people. There was complimentary bagels and OJ so that was a nice plus. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our group really loved the instructions given to us to help us paint something we want to put on our wall. The individual spaces were super tight so I'm glad they had a cubby space on the side to place your purses. Too tight that I kept bumping people as I walked out of the space. The walls were coated with tons of cool pictures that can be chosen for a private party. When we arrived the area was set up including brushes, canvas, paints and water cup. They gave the birthday girl a gift so that was sweet. Parking was HORRIBLE. Since it was Sunday street parking was free.. well if you can find it. I parked 3 blocks away. Meters were only 2 hours so you can't really use it for a 2 hour class. Around the corner is a $5 lot which was full. Unfortunately due to the area there is nothing they can do about parking. I don't live in the area but if I did I would come back as we all had a nice experience. read more

My son bought me a gift certificate last year for Mother's Day and I just got around to using it. I checked the website for the closest location which was Montclair and then I was able to check the schedule according to a variety of paintings. The painting that I really liked had a class scheduled for a Friday evening at 8:00 pm. We arrived a bit early to the class. Parking was a challenge and after riding around for about 30 minutes and skipping paid parking around the corner at a $10 Lot, we found a spot approximately 5 minutes away. The class was packed. There were a lot of people there yet the hostess explained where the wine was to go (you bring your own), where to get your wine glasses, etc. The hostess was thorough in explaining how to do the painting, she was also patient and kind. I really enjoyed my time at the Paint & Sip and would definitely recommend it. I know I plan on going back soon. read more

The staff at Pinot is amazing, they make painting your "masterpiece" a piece of cake. I am so happy to have attended, I would probably pass this place a million times and not try it, however it was so much fun, time flew by and I discovered that with the instructors guidance I could create my own "piece of art". During the process it does not feel so, however with every step, you get closer and more confident. The music selection was perfect for the activity, fun-upbeat or melodious-mellow. The couple next to me was hilarious, she was having a "controlled meltdown" every step of the way "omg, why am I so nervous, I don't know where to start" and he was hilarious "I see you are just branches all over, how many more do you need, are you just going to keep branching out?" I've been to this location twice and it has been a great experience both times. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about trying a painting class and didn't know what to expect. Those nervous vibes went away fairly quickly into the class. My friend and I brought a bottle of wine and cheese to eat. They provide the wine glasses and dishes for your snacks. Some people in the class go all out and bring a lot of food and snacks, but once you get into painting it's hard to keep refilling your glass/grabbing snacks without loosing your place. The instructors here are excellent - they are willing to help you and make your painting exactly what you want it to be. They give everyone individual attention when needed. When I did the "Paint your Pet" night, I definitely took full advantage of the instructors! For $35-40 for one class, Pinot's Palette is excellent for a girl's night out, or basically any type of outing. They offer Sunday classes as well, which is a nice way to unwind before the start of the week. I definitely recommend trying out a class. One negative is the parking situation, but I've come to expect this with any places in Montclair. read more

Perfect place for a girls night out! Went here with a bunch of friends and actually rented out the entire space for a private party (we only needed to guarantee 10 or so). The place was bright and spacious and the employees/artists were super helpful. First piece of advice - book in advance - this place is popular! There are a ton of paintings to choose from, and if you have a private party, you can choose your own painting. The instructors are really good artists and their technique is awesome. This isn't one of those places where they already have stuff drawn in for you on the canvas. You do everything. They were able to get a girl like me, who could barely draw a stick figure, to paint a piece that is up in my living room and actually gets compliments! First time ever trying something like this out and it was so much fun. We had a group of 8 girls for a friends birthday and they had our seats all reserved already so we all sat together. We forgot the wine but fear not because there is a liquor store up the street! The class was a ton of fun and really made you bring out your creative side. We came here with a group of people and had a great time. We got there half hour early and we were able to eat some food, relax, and catch up. The painting process was fun and relaxed. However, when it got towards the end of the session we all felt a bit rushed. I do know they had another class coming in, but if that were the case i feel like they need to alot more time for each painting class. Our teacher was nice and knowledgable. We all left happy and with a nice painting, just wish we werent so rushed at the end. We were able to book a party entirely for ourselves. I believe you need at least 12 people. Theres metered parking in the area, paid parking, and some free parking around the surrounding blocks. read more

I've been to both this location and the location in Summit, and have found that the Summit location is better. The instructors there are more engaged, better at explaining what you need to do, and better at controlling the room/quieting people down. They just seem more engaged and happier to be there, whereas here in Montclair, eh, not so much. They were clearly eager to get out of there tonight, which I can understand, but at least pretend to be interested in what you're doing and that you're willing to engage/help guests. They didn't even really come around to look at what people were doing (which they do in Summit to make sure everyone is caught up from time to time) and were rushing through each step. They could've at least said the typical "give yourself a hand, these paintings look awesome" at the end, but they didn't even do that... I go to a lot of these at different studios both in Jersey and Connecticut, not just Pinot's Palette, and this has been the least engaged instruction I've ever received at any of them which was kind of disappointing. That being said, I think I'll stick to the Summit location for classes. Other than that everything was fine, the usual which was why I gave 4 stars instead of 3. read more

Mixed feelings about my first experience at the Montclair location. We came in with high energy and it was a small class of 4, us included. Jesse was our instructor & although she gave detailed clear instructions on how to paint the Christmas tree, she was a bit curt if we asked for a little more paint, and instead of simply placing the plate back on the table, she would literally throw or toss the paper plate back at us after she added extra paint globs. And when we asked for her to take us photos, she oozed inconvenience. Her demeanor wasn't very cheery either & for such a fun event, she was quite bland & barely ever smiled. I'm extremely extroverted and social & for the entire class I was mute, because she just was not friendly. She came across like a math tutor if I were frank. I wanted to book a few other events, but I'd opt for another more fun instructor. Either way, we made the best of it. The decor is very cute & artsy, the tables were somewhat distanced though not exactly 6ft, alternative music was the genre played throughout which was relaxing, though I believe there should be a mix of genres for those who are not into alternative music. Don't glob on your paint too thick because you'll be walking out with a wet painting post class & may risk messing up your Picasso! Oh & there were boxes of finished works available for purchase- $10 for 2. Bring your wine & give this place a shot. Hopefully your instructor has better energy! read more

Came here a few months back and had a great time. Perfect for date night and doing something different with friends. First off I am not artistic at all so don't worry you don't have to be. They walk you through step by step. I even messed up to the point i got frustrated but my girlfriend helped me out and at the end I was amazed at how it came out. Always a great time with Pinot's! A clean and inviting studio with wonderful staff. A well organized session made our experience all the more worth it. We went out for a friend's birthday and she had a great time! Staff is more than willing to lend a helping hand if your painting doesn't turn out the way you want it to. They also clean up so you don't have to worry about putting your used plates and cups away; which is so thoughtful because that gives you ample time to take pictures with your painting after you're done! We had such a fun time Saturday night. We went in a group of 6 at 7pm. All said and done, we left at 10- so 3 hours total. They are cool with you bringing in food and booze, and have all the paint and stations set up for you. The instructions are fun and easy- from mixing paint to brush strokes. We did a "date-night" painting where 2 canvases could match to make 4 seasons of trees. Some people followed the directions, some got creative. We just all had a great time laughing at each other. I would 100% do this again and go here. With all the restaurants in Montclair, it's a great excuse to go somewhere fancy early to beat the crowd and then come here. read more

Talk about deviating from the typical Saturday night. Although probably not an entirely new concept to everyone this was definitely a new idea for me. A group of 6 of us went Saturday night for a friend's birthday. Not knowing what to expect we were greeted with welcoming arms and guided to our stations. Everybody seemed happy and eager to begin, must have been the wine that filled everyone's glass. Once we began the instructor was direct, informative and helpful to those who needed "extra" attention. I was feeling a little discouraged as I felt like my painting wasn't looking like it should but was instructed to just keep going. And I will say this by the end of it I was surprised at the masterpiece that I created. This whole place is an experience. One where skill level doesn't matter, prior instruction or experience doesn't matter but only what is happening in the moment. Take the plunge try something different and new. Awesome experience! I was very hesitant at first because I have the artistic ability of a 2 year old BUT the instructors of the class were able to get me to paint a beautiful picture! My husband couldn't even believe I painted it! The space is very nice and organized. You have more then enough space for your party to bring wine and fun appetizers to enjoy. They also do private parties which you can book in advance and paint whatever painting you want. I'm already planning an event with my friends! BYOB! (and snacks) - you'll be asked to come a half hour earlier than your scheduled time so that you have time to eat and settle in. This is best for groups, but I feel that singles and couples can also enjoy this experience, too. My class was mostly made up of women of all ages and a few younger men. The women that were teaching the class were very kind and patient and really did try to accommodate all the requests that they got from everyone that night. The only thing I disliked were not having much elbow room between the painters that were next to me. One wrong move could have ruined someone's painting and/or clothing. Luckily, there were no issues that night. Lol. Most of us left with a painting that we were proud of. Others, however, drank a little too much wine and painted trees that would have left Bob Ross rolling in his grave. read more
