I am not impressed with the rooms at the Cottage at all. All the furniture is very old and beat up. Also I hear from most of the visitors who visit there, that the food is not good. My son eats with my parent who lives there and also said the food is not good. They need more activities for the residents. There is only 1 planned activity each day. So mostly they sit around and stare at the TV. Not much learning or improvement is going to happen that way! The meals need to be outsourced. read more

History

Established in 2001.

The first of our three Pioneer Cottages buildings in Fergus Falls was opened in 2001 to offer a unique and exceptional choice in care for people living with Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of memory loss. A fourth location was added in Breckenridge, Minnesota, in 2006. Pioneer Cottages is a part of PioneerCare, a non-profit health care provider founded in 1928.

Meet the Manager: Ann B.

Ann Boutwell oversees daily operations and is responsible for promoting a supportive living environment at Pioneer Cottages Memory Care. Boutwell earned her nursing degree at Northwest Technical College in Bemidji, preparing her for licensure as a Registered Nurse. Prior to that, she received her Associate of Arts degree at Lake Superior Community College in Duluth and worked for several years as an ophthalmic assistant. In addition to her years of work in skilled nursing in Minnesota, Boutwell served as RN manager in assisted living in North Dakota. She joined the staff at Pioneer Cottages in 2017 as RN Clinical Coordinator and later assumed her current role. Boutwell's philosophy of care is well suited to the ideals established at Pioneer Cottages. "I ask our staff to treat our residents as if they're members of our own families," she says. "This is not our workplace; it is their home."
