This park is a nice one. It's a pretty long stretch of road off of 3L highway. There is one way traffic in and out. When I'm into Pokemon go, I drive around in circles spinning poke-stops and doing gym battles. That is when I would go most often. There are nice trails to walk. For the kiddos, there are multiple playgrounds, a basketball card, baseball fields, and shelters you can rent for parties. The best part of this park though is the creek. We have fun in the creek when it's warm. My kids love catching crawdads when it's warm out. I loved it as a kid too. I still have fun, especially watching them and how happy they are. Pictures will always be great memories. The only bad thing about this park, is that they took out the dog park! The dog park was so nice. There was a section for small dogs, and a section for large dogs. My dog had fun and so did I. I loved getting to play with everyone else's dogs. It was also great that it was so close to the Kenton county animal shelter. I hope they bring it back someday. read more

Nice park off of Madison Pike. The river along the trail is the big draw. There are a few areas that visitors may go down by the water. We saw a family playing in the water. I photographer was also crouched down in the water. He taking pictures of the geese with their goslings. There were quite a few birds at this park. We also saw finches, and black birds with bright orange wings. The trails are paved. There is a layer of fine sand that covers much of the trail on the side across from parking. The trail is pretty level on the parking side. There is a playground, but we did not venture over to it. There once was a dog park here. A sign indicates that the park was closed "due to reoccuring damage." The sign also states that they are looking for an alternate location for the Paw Park. Rigt now thw area is a giant field. Dogs must be on a leash at this park. Many people were there with their dogs, including us. When passing eachother, people were using good doggie etiquette. People were picking up after their dogs as well. I took away a star due to the amount of trash. There were a couple of used diapers, cups, many cigarette butts and feminine hygiene products. These were more on the parking side, and many were near the water. Across the river was much cleaner. read more

I recently visited Pioneer Park for the first time on an uncharacteristically warm February afternoon. I came to rollerblade on the paved path. The first route I took unexpectedly ended on a side street. I then tried another direction on the path. It was mostly smooth, but some areas of the path were covered with mud and leaves, which isn't ideal for rollerblading. My favorite aspect of the park is the river/stream that ran through the middle of the park. The park also has a few different playground structures, basketball courts, a picnic shelter, and a baseball field. I wouldn't necessarily come back to rollerblade, but I would come back to take a walk or use the playgrounds. read more

Pioneer Park is definitely a no-frills park, but the river running along the trail really makes this a great place to come and enjoy the outdoors on a nice day. Because there are so many other large parks around, I love that it tends to be pretty quiet here. There are basketball courts, a baseball field, and some playground equipment. The path isn't the smoothest, but overall I really liked the tranquility of it. Pioneer park is off of Madison avenue, a quick drive from the central covington area. While it's a pretty simple park, I would definitely come back here for a walk or picnic. If you're a dog-owner, I saw lots of people walking dogs here... it seemed like a great place for that as well! Pioneer Park is definitely pretty well kept, I'd come back! read more

A great place to bring your kids and dogs. I came here with my group of kids after laser Kraze to cool off. The water on the creek is decent to wade on, but I don't advise staying in the water long because it's not clean and you don't know where the water is coming from, and there might be water snakes and such. The park seemed well maintained-clean and all the facilities were working: there's play area or jungle gym, bathroom, picnic areas with picnic table and benches, and covered Shelter with picnic table and charcoal grills are available to use during a picnic or a function. I noticed there's plenty of people walking their dogs in the park- there's plenty of trash can, but people seemed to leave their dog's poop due to me noticing plenty of them during our walk from the river to the park. I hope people have the integrity to take care of their dog's business, and not leave it behind especially when nobody is looking. read more

I wish Yelp had the ability to mark reviews as outdated, because like other reviewers have said, this park is not the same as it was when a majority of the reviews were posted. The dog park hasn't existed here in years, and there's nothing to really do besides walk down the paved lot and back again in a straight line. I wouldn't call this a park so much as a place to pull your car over and eat lunch if you're in the area. It's not a park you actually plan to go to. read more

Just off KY 17 in southern Covington, the 43 acre Pioneer Park features two shelters, multiple playgrounds, paved walking/biking trails, basketball courts, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a dog park. During the spring and summer, Pioneer Park is bustling with sports activities as many leagues hold games here. However, because the park is sits next a creek, events are often cancelled whenever it rains heavily because of standing water on the fields. I use this park mostly to get my steps in. Its ok, but It needs work. The sidewalks don't meet or they just stop in odd spots. So you end up using the parking lot portion to complete a full circle. I know it doesn't matter to many but it does to walkers/runners. We definitely use the outer loops for maximum steps. It floods alot and can get muddy. Most people abide by the rules of keeping their dogs on a leash. But sometimes no. Overall its ok. read more

This review is specifically for the Kenton Paw Park, within Pioneer Park. To note, as of this review date, the fenced-in areas are closed due to extensive flooding, but should re-open soon so check their website for status/details; however, it's still a good place for an on-leash walk on the walking trails. These dog parks are nice because there are 2 separate dog parks which they rotate to keep grassy and nice. Within each park (adjacent to each other) there are big dog and small dog fenced areas. When we've been, on weekend days, there's been a small-moderate crowd--not too crowded, but enough other dogs to play with. Bags are available for clean-up, but bring your own bowl & water for your pups as there isn't a water station inside the fenced area (there are fountains where you can fill bowls outside the fenced area if you just bring a bowl). Compared to the Fort Thomas Dog Park (the other one in general vicinity), this one has more level ground for playing so I prefer this one. There are also benches and shade trees for the owners' comfort as well. read more

I figured this was one of those parks where middle aged men back into parking spots and wait until an alternative lifestyle choice presents itself. Nope. Well, maybe during the day during the week...but not on Saturday. My family went there on Saturday to embrace a rare sunny comparatively warm day. Actually, it was perfect for us. We brought some subway and ate at a picnic table then walked around and found that they have a massive dog park. When you have 9 and 13 year old daughters a big dog park full of romping canines is pretty good entertainment. There's not a lot of trails but plenty of space to stretch your legs and get some activity-toss a ball, run, frisbee. It is a bit noisy. Instead of Pioneer I'd maybe have called it "The Park Betwix the Modes of Transportation". It's bordered on the west by KY-17 and the east by an active train track with a creek running through the middle of it. However, it is easy to get to, and into and out of. If you just need an hour of fresh air this is your place. read more

It has baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, horseshoes, dog parks, bike tracks, running spots, party spots, grills, kid parks, a creek, and huts! Pioneer park offers a lot, especially their dog park areas! My dog loves it here and it's well kept and well maintained for the abuse it gets. as a metter of fact, the entire park is well maintained. Its been flooded and destroyed several times, but it is usually cleaned up quickly. read more

Great dog park - tons of room, lots of friendly dogs, separate areas for big and small dogs. There's a water fountain close by and lots of dog poo bags around. I always enjoyed coming to the dog park with my Boxer breed dogs, as long as the park wasn't flooded from rain. This park bans Pit Bull breeds. I have an Am Staff, an American Bully, a Boxer/Pit mix, and a Boxer, so I guess I'm no longer welcome to use this park. I'll just have to find another dog park that doesn't subscribe to the ridiculous concept of breed specific banning. read more

The Paw Park is one of a few in the area and one that I used to frequent. For nearly a year I was as the Paw Park every single evening. Then, the people were very friendly and the dogs were well behaved. I have been back recently and was highly disappointed by the atmosphere. The people were very rude and no one was cleaning up after their dogs. I had decided at that point to search out a different park (one man even kicked my dog!). I was sorry to hear about the flood damage. This was a well maintained park. There are 3 large dog areas and 2 small dog areas that ar rotated on a regular basis to keep the grass and grounds healthy. They had pool parties in the summer for the pups and did several fund-raisers and seminars for owners. Hopefully with the repairs to the fences and park will come another shift in patronage. read more

The two-mile path is more or less in the shape of a figure eight. It is great for running especially around the soccer fields. The breeze from the little creek/river is nice on warm days. There are almost always people out and about walking or around the playground. There are often people playing soccer, baseball, basketball, or tennis too. I'm glad to have found this park! read more

There are a limited number of enclosed dog parks in the area. I know of three. Pioneer is located on the outskirts of the 275 loop in Northern Kentucky and is the larger of the two I frequent. The Park in a narrow strip along 17 South of Latonia, KY. The dog park takes up a considerable amount of space, two large sections are fenced off, one for large dogs, one for small dogs. Train tracks run along the far edge of the fence. There isn't a great deal of shade available but there are trees and places to sit scattered throughout the sections. In the back of one area is a course for dogs to train in and an information board with rules and regulations is set up at the entrance. This is a newer facility compared to the dog park in Mt. Airy forest. I would probably bring my dog here more often but it's too far for most of my friends with dogs to drive. read more

Most of the reviews are over two years old and as an almost daily park user, this park has gone significantly downhill. It used to be very well maintained but there is rarely any evidence of park staff except for one guy who drives around in a golf cart (I've never seen him get out). The dog parks are both gone, none of the water fountains work, and the tennis court fence has been torn up since 2017. The paved walkways give a nice trek throughout the park but, with no maintenance, they are now muddy, wet, and significantly cracked with weeds left to grow unchecked. There is a sign prohibiting swimming and wading in the creek due, I assume, to contaminated water. After several calls and emails to county offices, I still cannot find out information about when or even if water quality testing has been done. With the recent information about blue/green algae, I would not let my dogs or children anywhere near the creek until the safety of the water has been proven. The larger of the picnic shelters and the children's playgrounds are the only two specifics that raise this from a 1 to a 2 star review. read more

Love this dog park! They have spots designated for small dogs and large dogs! So nice and lots of space. Of course everywhere there are people who don't like to follow the rules, like bringing in food! My dog is so great around people and other dogs but he is food aggressive so I can't trust him off leash with food and dogs and people. I wish people would follow the rules! read more

I went to Kenton Paw Park within Pioneer park.I took my 79 yr old mother and myself and our 2 dogs.This was our first visit and probably our last. All of the small dogs were in with the big dogs,even a 12 week old puppy was in with big dogs.At least 12 small dogs.Several people were complaing because our big dogs were to ruff with their small dogs,and no one was cleaning up dog poo, it was everywhere.There was only 2 small dogs in the small pen. read more
