The two of us had dinner at about late afternoon, only us in the whole restaurant (apart from 4-5 personal sitting eating, surfing and quietly chatting at a secluded corner table). Already looking at the menu should send all the caution to get the hell out. Although we happily chugged on because of all nice things we had been hearing. So we were presented with a coloured menu in 4 main languages with an abundance of dishes which in itself almost always speaks of low class tourist joint. We settled for shrimps in garlic/oil and a prawn cocktail. The garlic shrimps were just ok though it would have been nice to have them a little more spicey and salted (salt seemed to be in overall lack as the continuation would show).
The prawn cocktail was an awkward thing: killed/drenched with a travesty of an oversweetened & sour grease supposedly being a "Rhode Island sauce" (yippee, I'm back to the sixtees!). The martini-style glass contained quite a lot of prawns on a chunk of finely chopped green salad swimming in a pool of cold water - yeeesh! You could find some odd slices of pineapple - in all constituting a very sad, undersalted prawn cocktail.
For main course we chose a whole grilled fish which turned up slightly overcooked, thus dry and pretty much tasteless! Some melting butter, parsley and coarse salt and some minutes less in the pan would have made all the difference to what now amounted to a 2 star dish. No help from the servant at the table to part the meat from the bones as one can expect in a fish restaurant. On the side we ordered a simple tomato and onion sallad which never turned up until we reminded about it and after which came a plate with tomato and onion slices, plain, totally lacking salt/pepper - which of course could be ok provided the table had been supplied with REAL salt and pepper as in coarse sea salt and a pepper grinder. As of now - after asking! - we were provided with salt and pepper shakers (btw the salt shaker was clogged and pretty useless). Olive oil came on the side. Tomatos were watery, stiff to bite and tasteless as in low quality and not ripe enough.
During the whole meal NOONE tended to our table and N. B. we were ALONE!!! Noone even bothered to look our way but even sparse service had to be called for by shouting and waving!!! Of course we had to pour our bottle of (mediocre) whine ourselves...
Dessert? out of question after this ordeal.
On the bill among the posts were "Pan & salsa" ("salsa" being small cups of the red and green typical canarian mojo) at 2,6 euros which were brought to the table w/o us asking for it!!! So it's certainly assumed as in every restaurant I've ever been it being provided free of charge - even as refill (butter incl) - shocking!!! Moneywise it's not much but it's the principal as such. The waitress arguing that in other places the cost is spread out on the food making it dearer! After protesting the cost was deducted and we were brought an updated bill. Overall I'd say pricewise low mid range.
