You walk into the townhouse and instead of it being someone's home, it's the Paul Smith boutique. I went in looking for ties for my husband who is a big fan of Paul Smith. Such a shame that there isn't a Paul Smith boutique in Chicago. Sure we can get Paul Smith merchandise from the departmental stores in Chicago but it's not really the same. Excellent customer service from the associate whom I did not get his name. He gave recommendations and suggestions on what types of tie designs (stripes vs dots) would be a good match for what types of shirts. While he recommended his favorite designs, there was no pressure at all from him. My personal favorites from the selection also turned out to be his favorite recommendations :) Gentlemen, if you're into good shoes....Paul Smith also has frequent collaborations with reputable and solid British shoemakers. Some time back, they partnered with Crockett & Jones. Currently, some of their shoes are partnered with John Lobb, also another distinguished British shoemaker. Trivia: Crockett & Jones and John Lobb designed and made shoes for James Bond. For those who don't live in the UK, Paul Smith participates in VAT refund (tax refund). So when you're making your payment, be sure to ask for the VAT refund form. They'll fill in the form and hand it to you. When you leave the UK, present the VAT refund form at the airport to get back the portion of tax you paid on your purchase.

If I saw something I wanted to buy, I would pick it, look at the queue, put it back down and walk out. If I really wanted something, I would come back at a later date, but make sure that I arrived and got served before the hoard of shoppers arrived. I have to say, since the opening of the two huge Primark stores on Oxford Street, things in this particular branch have inproved enormously. The display no longer a thrift shop appearance of jumbles clothes. Also the queues are not as bad as they used be. I think the die hard Primark shoppers would rather make the trek to Oxford Street, where the chioce of goods is that much greater. For any American visitors coming to London wondering what kind of store Primark is, think an even cheaper version of Old Navy for clothes and Walmart of bedding and household accessories. The reason this store only gets three stars is due to the size of the store means that the selection is limited and does not cover the full range of Primark goods.

But, after my visit to the Kilburn location I learned that each store is very (VERY) different than the next. Crap is EVERYWHERE. I seriously didn't even see anyone working there picking things up. I know Oxford Circus is the huge, flagship store, but they always have about 50 workers scrambling around the tourists trying to fix up the shop in order. Any retail business should care as least a little bit if their merchandise is all on the floor. It shouldn't matter if it's only 1 quid either. Not only is this location a complete and utter disaster, but the merchandise isn't even any good. Yes, the store is smaller, but I found what is in store not to be really any worth buying. Suck it up, wake up at 9 and go to the Oxford Circus location. TRUST ME.
