Take recipe home and begin mission to find a fish monger in Brisbane who stocks fish wings. Ask Twitter. Twitter leads me to Neil, the owner of VJ's Seafood. He says he'll put some aside for me. Eureka. Drive to Mt Gravatt and am greeted by beautiful fresh Barramundi fish wings. Also buy a few fillets of salmon, and cherry & beetroot cured salmon. (FYI: the later goes so well in an omelette). If you're new to cooking seafood or just like to learn more, each of their product shelf talkers have a guide to "how best to cook" each piece of seafood. Get talking to Neil about fish catching practices and see the difference between a fish caught via netting and that caught by tunnel netting. Suitably impressed, my fish wings and I head home to try and recreate the Cho Cho San recipe. An abhorrent amount of sauce both in the slaw and on the burger itself which was also coated in a nauseating glaze. I literally had to scrape the over zealous amount of sauces off the bred. Those bread boards they are served on, just plane idiotic! Plus, they look none-too-clean. By the time I'd done my best with my revolting "dining experience", I ensured to leave a note on the paper which encloses the burger, stating way too much sauces with an unhappy face. One more thing, the preposterous volume of the music blaring so you couldn't speak to your partner.

I really can't concentrate on anything else. With the volume ever increasing whist more people are seated its difficult to have a conversation without potentially ruining my vocal chords. Yes that is an exaggeration but not to far from the truth. Just like how quickly our main meals arrive at our table. If there's one thing to praise Thai Kitchen for, it's definitely the urgency to get orders out. I don't think we've gone more than five minutes without food. I get into my (beef) Gang Massaman and my friend starts on his (duck) Gang Ped Yang. Mid way through the meal we sample the others dish and come to two conclusions. The first is that both dishes are pretty damn fly and the second is that the sauces for both dishes kind of taste the same. It's weird. When the last grain of rice and final drop of sauce has been consumed a waiter is there to swiftly take up our plates, offer deserts (which we decline) and pour us waters. I always phone in and place my order and it's usually ready to be picked up in about twenty minutes. They're very accommodating about customising your meal and are happy to leave meat or seafood out of dishes for vegetarians. They alway ask if you want your meal mild, medium, or hot so if you're not a chilli fan you don't have to worry. I wish their kitchen stayed open later, though, because even though they're open until 9:30, last orders are at 8:15. I love their vegetarian red curry and vegetarian pad thai, and my meat-eating friends recommend the thai beef salad and duck curry. It's reasonably priced, friendly, and delicious and obviously has a loyal following since it's still going after so long. There's short-term parking on the street out the front so you can dash in and grab your order, and if you want to eat in there's parking out the back. Thai Kitchen is much better than your average suburban thai place, and whenever I feel like thai I don't even think twice about where to go.

On our first visit my wife and I both tried their pizzas and they did not disappoint. The service was very fast and they had a lot of delicious sounding specials. When we went back later that week and tried their pasta we soon realized we made a mistake. Apparently while they're famous for their delicious pizzas they must be infamous for their terrible pasta. With the all-you-can-eat pizza and pasta bars, salad bar, and desert bar! At night, the Pizza Hut sign is not lit up, so it's easy to miss in the dark. But it's there! Just drive in to the KFC/Red Rooster complex and the Pizza Hut is right in the middle. And it's packed! People in the know fill the establishment for nostalgic reasons. The only downside is, the staff aren't very helpful. Nobody really explains anything to you. Unlike Sizzler, whose staff always ask, "Have you been to Sizzler before, and do you know how it works?", Pizza Hut Browns Plains staff leave you to your own devices. Don't bother waiting to be seated, as they just give you a strange look. Just grab any table you like and serve yourself. Also, it would seem that you can no longer order a set meal up front. It's simply all you can eat. You just rock up, help yourself, and then you go to the counter at the end and pay for "all you can eat". Ordering drinks is tricky, though. They don't have "all you can drink" self serve soft drink dispenser (like Sizzler do). So you do have to try to get the attention of someone in the kitchen to ask for a jug of Pepsi, or a beer (it's licensed). And, after waiting 10 minutes for the drink/s to arrive at your table, you might have to get up and remind them a second time. The Tin Cup Cafe has a very relaxed ambience, very causal local experience. They have down to earth friendly staff and great meals made with love and have a home-made feel to them. All meals are very affordable and there are senior discounts on certain days and events etc. I took my grandparents there and they adored the place. Entry is very affordable to the Beenleigh Historical Village, no more then $8 pp. Discounts available for concession, students and children. A hidden gem!
