Months passed with repeated delays, vague responses, and ignored follow-ups. On May 20, 2025, I formally requested a refund in writing (per his own contract provisions for unearned fees). That demand was opened multiple times but never answered. Since then, Mr. Vaughn has publicly conceded that my claim has merit and that his obligations remain. He has still refused to issue a refund, instead offering $1,000 -- less than a third of what I paid -- despite never filing the case. This is not professional conduct. I have filed with the Alabama State Bar and the Client Security Fund so the record is clear. Mr. Vaughn also publicly called me a "bitch" on social media for seeking a refund. Future clients deserve to know how this matter has been handled.

I remind you NOT ONE CALL FROM THIS OFFICE From 08/25/23 Only one holiday post card stating "Thank you for trusting my office & staff to help you with your case. We hope you have a Merry Christmas Warm Regards Katie Taft Copeland & Staff" The certified letter stated Unfortunately, I am writing this letter to inform you we must decline any further representation of you in that potential claim. Regrettably ( not stating why just a laundry list of reasons) I would not suggest Katie T Copeland. In the meantime, he attempted to bully us into using his services to close on their house, which we could not do since the buyer makes that choice. Somehow, Copeland knew the date the check for house sale would be ready before we did and called that very day. His had upped the balance by $200. When my sister-in-law went to pay him, Copeland snatched the check out of her hand and wrote in the amount himself. I called him and asked what amount he paid himself and he said an amount $300 more than the original amount. I asked why and he rattled off things he did in preparation to sell my parent's home. I told him we didn't ask for that and asked if we were paying for something we didn't ask for or receive, at which point he pivoted to another topic and then threw out some sleazy lawyer speak to try to distract, which didn't work. We could have stopped payment, but my brother and I decided to let him keep the extra money. My brother suggested maybe Copeland would do the right thing and refund the $300 he stole, but I am a retired LEO and know that's not going to happen. Choose an honest lawyer like Jay Stover.
