I recently had the pleasure of working with Steve Piziali of Piziali Construction on a large (over $100K) repair project necessitated by storm damage (aka trees falling on the house) incurred in December 2021. It was a long and arduous process working through details and negotiations with my insurance company. Steve was patient, helped whenever I requested it and communicated with my insurance adjuster on details that I was not qualified to address. The end result was that I received full payment from my insurance company to cover all the damages. Steve was an absolute dream to work with. He was knowledgeable, responsive, on time for meetings, and prepared to discuss all the details. He acted as the general contractor on this job and hired and coordinated all the subs. The project went very smoothly and I am more than pleased with the end result. The quality of Steve's work and that of his subs was EXCELLENT. for example, another contractor made an unsolicited comment on the superb quality of the new second-story deck Steve constructed, saying that it was a first-class job using first-class materials. Steve made great suggestions along the way to improve the final outcome of the reconstruction. He was always available to discuss the pros and cons of choices that needed to be made and gave good advice. In short, I recommend Steve very, very highly. He was a bright light during the whole process and I soon came to see that I could trust him completely with the project ... a huge relief for me! Called Steve to come out for proposal to repair storm/tree damage to my balcony. after several appointment cancellations by Steve-he finally showed up. After showing him the damaged areas and discussion regarding repairs we shook hands and I stated that I was looking forward to receiving his proposal as necessary to forward to my insurance handler-his response was "It will probably be a couple to 3 weeks or so" as he was walking away. As a contractor myself, I got a vibe that he wasn't interested in helping me in this situation so I texted him asking him to please send a proposal and I would even pay him for his time as I am familiar with the time and effort necessary to draft an accurate proposal. I RE-iterated how important this proposal was for me to get to my insurance handler as they were low-balling the claim estimate and It was very important that my insurance company realized the true scope of work and related labor costs. Steve replied to my request with "I cannot help you!" I feel Steve wasted my time as I clearly informed him of my situation and related storm damage work required on my balcony, prior to our appointment(s) As a contractor with a good reputation, I feel this negative review is necessary to inform YOU-the public that Steves reviews may not represent the true picture of how he handles his business-Red Flag! As a contractor, I always informed my prospective and current customers if I was too busy or could not handle or simply did not want a particular project , an explanation was always offered and I was always shown appreciation for my honesty. If /when I turned down a request to provide my services I usually gave a good referral to assist with a solution. I feel like I was blown off! Steve Piziali and his Construction Crew are True Hero's and were My Angels last Wednesday!! Last Tuesday afternoon, our carport collapsed on my car and my brothers in Alta Sierra due to the huge amount of snow that hit Nevada County. My brother is disabled and has a specialized vehicle with hand controls that he drives to dialysis 3 days a week. On Wednesday we placed numerous calls looking for help to extricate the cars and remove the carport. Steve of Piziali Constuction returned my call and came out that same day to see what he could do to help. Without hesitation, Steve promised to get the cars out and returned promptly the next day with his construction crew. They safely and carefully freed the cars, disassembled the carport and even hauled it away. Before they left they went the Extra miles to clear debris from the driveway, apply plastic to the broken rear window of my brother's car and even vacuumed up the broken glass from his back seat. Steve did this out of the kindness of his heart as he refused to submit an invoice for the work. While my brother's car is damaged, it's was drivable and he was able to get to his dialysis appt. the next morning.....All because of Steve's Big Heart and Willingness to help!! I met Steve on a job helping a friend who has brain cancer. I am a professional builder and was blown away by who Steve is and his character. Being that I also have been in the business as an electrician for 40 years, I can appreciate all the help and coaching that he gave us during the complete rebuild of our lakefront home. The house was a complete disaster when we started. From wood rot to unexpected structural issues that came up during the project, he was there the whole time. They started in the dead of winter and finished when he said they would on time. He communicated well and kept us abreast of all and any issues that had come up. I bought a house with cheap particle board siding which was cracking and warping in areas where the eves weren't protecting it. It took me years to find a contractor who was interested in the work, but I finally used Yelp to find Steve Piziali, who already has a great Yelp reputation (Yelp-utation?). I didn't reach him until August (the busy season), so he didn't have an opening until the second week in September. When we met for the estimation process, Steve suggested the siding material that I'd picked myself two years ago (he didn't know that at the time). He also recommended adding sheathing if it was absent (turned out it was). Steve estimated two weeks to finish the job before taking anything off the house. In the end I needed stud replacements due to my poor original siding (I saw this myself), so the price rose to accommodate the extra work.Despite the need to sheath the house and replace structure, Steve and his two man team completed the work in TEN DAYS. The painter he subcontracted to (Dave Cullum, who deserves his own review) showed up on Saturday (the day after Steve finished the carpentry) and finished on SUNDAY, the very next day. The house looks great. I'm sure there are cheaper choices in Nevada County for this work, but I wanted quality and reliability, so I have no complaint.
