I love their pizzas, made on a sourdough base and using the best quality and fresh Italian ingredients, they are cooked in less than 90 seconds in their wood-fired oven and taste incredible. On this occasion I shared an Honest Crust pizza with Neil C. who was as equally impressed with the pizza as I was. We went for a pretty classic pizza - Portobello mushrooms, garlic oil, tomato and mozzarella. It was served on a wooden board, straight out of the oven and was divine! They have around 8 pizzas on their menu to choose from, including some rather amazing specials. Notably the smoked pig cheek, red onion, fennel seed, tomato, chilli, pecorino and mozzarella pizza.. Yes! pig cheeks on a pizza! No wonder i like these guys,

They became regulars at markets such as Altrincham's and there was always a queue of customers waiting hungrily for their wares. Fast forward to today and though there have been a few new pizza makers setting up their stalls in markets, at festivals and in bricks-and-mortar venues across Greater Manchester, they are still held in the highest regard. More so for the fact they have a permanent site inside Altrincham Market House which has itself won awards for being a fantastic food destination. Their blue mosaic tiled pizza oven (shipped over from Italy) is a thing of beauty and sits proudly producing probably several hundred doughy masterpieces each week. Their thin, beautifully charred sough dour pizzas are available in a regularly changing range of options, though they are probably better-known for their Atomica which includes 'Nduja, (a hot, spreadable sausage). The city centre, once devoid of seriously decent pizza, now has the likes of PLY, Rudy's, and other restaurants upping their game; Honest Crust are, for me, the real trailblazers and have to be eaten at repeatedly.

And let's just say..I love English food, whether it's take away, pub food, or a posh restaurant!! My frist trip to the Starving Man was the day I arrived from a month study tour in Lucca, Italy and was desperate for a burger....SOMETHING that wasn't pasta or pizza! I had a burger and chips and it was pretty f---ing fit! I think I had fish n chips later in the week! MY FAVE! The other visits have been purely in search of one thing...a kebab! YUM! You can't really get anything like a good kebab in America (that I've found) and I enjoy them! A little lemon juice, ketchup and mayo! It's the great ending to a night out or sitting around my friend's kitchen table having a few glasses of vodka and a spliff! Im back in a week and I'll be sure to spend some of my "pound-age" at the Starving Man!

The reason being is the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. On the weekends it can get busy after hours as the pubs and bars empty and punters look for a quick bite, but everyone always seems in good spirits. The highlights for me are the pizzas, which have a thin, crispy base, and the lamb kebab which is very simple, served with naan, fresh salad and yoghurt sauce. It's good, honest food that you can't go wrong with.

They also sell soft drinks, beer & wine (I didn't see any of those when I went though) and small tubs of ice cream. There were six pizza choices available (in one standard size of an 11" base) ranging in price from £6-8. I'd usually go for pepperoni but this wasn't an option - there was chorizo and 'Nduja (a spicy, spreadable pork sausage) but I wasn't in the mood for anything too 'hot'. The tomato, mozzarella and basil was decent enough, with the base far less soggy on the bottom than nearby Honest Crust's (http://www.yelp.co.uk/biz/honest-crust-altrincham) but I must admit I preferred the latter's. Pix's crust was a tad dry and crunchy, though to be fair it came with a small pot of dipping sauce which was a nice touch. And an unexpected small packet of Love Hearts. Random, but appreciated. They're up against tough competition in Honest Crust, especially as you can sit down and enjoy their pizza in Market House - at Pix there are no seats apart from the two small tables out front. I think they'll do ok though, especially now that Alty's footfall has increased with the new market.

We ordered on Deliveroo at 7:50 pm and the estimated delivery time was 30 - 60 minutes. As the hour approached (the latest the delivery should have been) the app said that the restaurant was still making our order. The app continued to extend the delivery time until we had been waiting two hours and fifteen and the restaurant was due to close. At this point the Deliveroo rider had been waiting at the restaurant for 15 minutes. We were growing increasingly anxious that we wouldn't get our food (that they would cancel the order) and then we wouldn't be able to get food because it was getting so late. The app had no way to contact the restaurant, but said to call the restaurant directly. I tried to call the restaurant multiple times and recieved both line busy messages and had my calls be hung up on. We called repeatedly and repeatedly got no answer. Finally, at 10:25 the rider got our pizza (2.5 hours after we had ordered), but we didn't get to eat until 10:40... A bit frustrating. Like I said, the food is good, but the lack of timeliness, the lack of communication... it was incredibly unprofessional and honestly anxiety inducing. At least have a message on your restaurant number. And if you're SO busy you can't do delivery... don't offer it as an option.

Starting with the positives, the prices are fairly good and competitive, and the staff are friendly, despite the fact they close at 5 pm (I do find this to be VERY early), they didn't rush me out, even as they were beginning to tidy up ahead of closing. I have visited here a couple of times now, I notice the stock levels, especially on food do tend to be poor, especially later in the day (from the mid-afternoon onwards), which is a shame, I have been turned away on multiple occasions when trying to get a gluten-free option which isn't a sweet treat, as they seem to always run out of bread! On my most recent visit, I was disappointed with the quality of my gluten-free ham and cheese toastie, they use seeded bread (I don't like this as it gets stuck in your teeth) and the cheese didn't melt well. There is a nice amount of seating here which is quite comfortable, the decor inside this place is interesting, with a wall of mugs, and a selection of books, so they've tried to make it look presentable. I probably wouldn't return here, but there are certainly worse places in the town centre. 2*

The latte I had was good and the overall vibe I got from the cafe was a pleasant one. I'd go back.

OMG... and I very rarely use that phrase, but... let's just repeat that. Big bouncy castle of fluffy garlic bread. It's my pungently-scented fantasy. Ahem. Back to the task at hand, reviewing San Rocco. There's no doubt that the village of Hale in Altrincham is delightfully, beautifully pretty. There are a few San Roccos dotted around Manchester but this one is really complemented by its environment. Situated opposite the bowling green it maintains a picturesque veneer and doesn't disappoint inside. Because you're out in the 'burbs you're likely to find it busy with couples and families (as you would in the city of course), but with a much less rushed, less stressed, more relaxed atmosphere. The decor has really undergone attention to detail here - it's stylish without forsaking comfort. The food is perhaps not traditionally authentic Italian but it's extremely tasty; little touches like adding egg yolk, cream and crispy pancetta to a Carbonara make it all the more special, and chilli oil on a salami pizza. There are warm spices and tangy herbs at work in most dishes and it really does feel like a treat, albeit a reasonably priced one. If you ever need to get out of the smoggy centre once in a while I'd highly recommend Hale anyway, and if you're hungry I'd advise you to go here. The service is smooth and friendly, and the food will please you just as much.
