I no longer live in Burlington, but when I come back to visit I love when my schedule allows for…read moresome Wings Up. Such was the case two days ago, but my experience this trip was a little disappointing. We tried ordering online, which was easy even if the layout was a little awkward. Back in the 90's I always ordered my wings "slightly sloppy", which meant a little extra sauce, for a dime extra . This time we ordered "sloppy" per the web option for 49¢ extra, as "slightly" was not there. Big mistake. The wings were virtually swimming in a soup of the various sauces ordered. However, that's our fault since that's what we ordered. I miss the "slightly" sloppy option, though. Fries and onion rings were great all around, and my daughter loved her order of dunkers, but the wings, even without factoring the sauce soup in to the equation, were tiny and...mushy? Yes, mushy, like they had sat around for awhile. Even the wings not ordered with the sloppy option were textured like this. Lastly, the unpleasant young lady working the register was the first negative service experience I've ever had there. We paid her when we arrived, early, and waited in the lobby. 5 minutes later, we are still the only customers there and she wandered out of the back and asked if we'd been helped? I was surprised, and started to answer "Yes, I just paid you 5 minutes ago" But I guess she got bored because she turned and walked behind a wall to the kitchen half way through my sentence. The young man that brought my order out, however, was smiling, polite and friendly. I'm hoping this was just an off night for an establishment I've been enjoying for better than 15 years, and I can adjust my review positively following a future visit.

I said I want 3 orders of the special and he quoted $45. I said I want the $9.99 special and after some discussion as he was not aware of it he said I can get combos. I did not pay till he charged me $30 plus tax for what I wanted. Very disappointed.

Was at the location near work the night before, My cousin requested to eat here for her birthday,…read moreso I took her here. This location, the waitress was super nice and the restaurant was nice and clean. It didn't take us long to get seated, but the food did take a while. I didn't have a good experience with the wings the night before, but I thought different location let us see what this is about, and again I was disappointed in the wings, however I tried the burger my cousin order and that was amazing. so it seems like all other items are a better choice from the wings. I have truly learned my lessons and I will stick to the burgers and other items rather than falling for my craving weakness of wings only to be disappointed. The waitress here was super nice, best service I have seen and she was running the show by herself, so kudos to her for all her hard work and maintaining a positive to the customers.

I'll start off by saying I've been to the original Anchor in Buffalo but I was going to the…read moreBurlington location not necessarily looking to compare to the original. In all honestly I wasn't impressed with the original Anchor at all really. Their pizza was very greasy and the wings were just meh. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that when you think of the original birthplace of Buffalo wings that your expectations get set a bit high? Perhaps... Anyway I was going to take this Anchor on its own merits with no comparison to the original so I won't. The location for this restaurant is where a Shoeless Joe's used to be and that Shoeless Joe's I hate to say I could see why it closed... It wasn't good when it was there. This replacement place isn't bad but my first impression is that it's not necessarily great either. I don't know if it's just me or what but the prices for this place seem rather high for the type of fare they serve. 8 wings for 14 dollars? Being a lover of chicken wings I can tell anybody that you can get wings for more reasonable prices just about anywhere. Because of the prices I was simply turned away from that option. Knowing what I know about the wings in Buffalo (I said I wasn't going to compare and in the end I didn't) they weren't blow me away anyway. The only place where 8 wings would probably fill me up is at Crisp in Chicago where they are giant and unsplit (basically double) and I wasn't going to have what would equate to an appetizer to fill me up for lunch. I'm a big guy... I need not just quality but quantity too. To me the wings just didn't seem to be a good bang for the buck. Looking over the rest of the menu I decided to go with the beef on weck for a few reasons. One is that you can't get this just anywhere here. Buffalo is close to where we live but this particular food item is not on every pub's menu so to speak. It was a change for your everyday type of food that we can get anywhere here. Surprisingly they offer poutine here, surprise surprise... any place that serves fries in Canada has poutine it's almost automatic. The beef on weck came with a side of fries for 15 bucks. I figured I'd get this since really it's an upgrade to a burger and again it's sort of a special item. The serving size was just about right. It didn't seem skimped on the meat and but it wasn't overkill at all either but it was a fair serving. The bun of course is the star of this dish though. The "weck" or bun is basically a bun that has caraway and kosher salt on it and it adds a particular taste to the sandwich. I sort of had wished I had more horseradish but either way the first few bites I had without the au jus just to get the taste. The beef seemed to be medium well type but it was juicy enough. I kind of wished it was more red, medium maybe. If I was asked (if they serve it that way) I would have asked for medium rare-ish but at the end of the day the sandwich was very good. My critique to this place is that their prices seem to be sort of higher than normal across the board. I had ordered a pint of Goose Island IPA and that was 8 dollars. With wings being almost 2 dollars each and pints in the 8 dollar range it makes me wonder how long this place will stick around with the competition for pub type fare in Burlington is rather fierce. In the end the Anchor is a decent place to go but it just seems to be more expensive than other places which are very similar in the immediate area. While I had a dish that isn't normally available everywhere else, most of what they have on the menu pretty much is as global and universal as you can get. If I would come back to the Anchor honestly it would be just for the beef on weck and not too much else, wings included. I'd put Korean fried chicken up against any other type of fried chicken these days, even an affiliate of the originator of Buffallo wings...
