Okra tasted very fresh and was crisp without being greasy. Pickles were a little spicy but tasted great. Red beans and rice were super flavorful without being spicy. They were definitely my favorite thing of the night. We were told the owner makes the sausage that went into the beans, and it was fabulous! The owner graciously brought us a few boiled crawfish to try. He attempted, unsuccessfully, to teach us how to peel and eat them. He was a great sport and fun and friendly. The tofu soup is still as delicious as I remember, and we also tried the potato soup which I was pleasantly surprised by! There's a large outdoor space with picnic tables and huge indoor space. The staff was great, one gentleman in particular who was getting things set up for a private party. As I mentioned, we chose to come to The Standard specifically because they had actual food (vs just snack food like many breweries). Unfortunately, we arrived when the kitchen had closed to prep for the aforementioned private party. This meant a significant wait to even place an order for food. We tried to wait, but this was going to be a deal breaker for me; I was starting to feel ill from no food and beer tasting on empty stomach. Fortunately someone (owner? manager? or their best, kindest employee, I don't know), helped me out. I am so grateful. We stayed, and once the kitchen opened back up, my husband and son also ordered food -- the chicken and waffles were awesome. If we were locals, I imagine we'd enjoy many afternoons at the beer garden.
