I wouldn't touch it if I was being threatened at knife point. The restaurant makes me want to search the thesaurus for synonyms for "dirty" because that word doesn't do the grit and grime in this place any justice. I don't know much about laws in Nebraska, but if this place were in California, the bathroom alone would be breaking at least a dozen health code rules. On top of all this, the kids working here all look like they're twelve years old and are barely able to calculate the change they owe me. If I have it my way, I'll never be back. Disclaimer: I usually really like Dairy Queen's ice cream

There is restaurant seating both downstairs and upstairs where you can overlook the crowd below. I asked what the building used to be as I assumed it was a hotel or something of that nature but they told me it had always been a restaurant. The food was good and came out piping hot which was great. My biggest disappointment was definitely the salad bar. The salad portion of the bar consisted of iceberg lettuce.....literally. There were no vegetables or other embellishments that you could add. They did have some other pastas and things like that with the bar, but they could really stand to provide some other options to pile on top of your lettuce. There aren't a ton of options in the area, but outside the salad bar we were satisfied with our meal.

Ordered the Reuben Sandwich with a side salad. The salad was iceberg lettuce, baby cut carrots and croutons with Club crackers on the side. The Italian dressing was delicious. The sandwich arrived before I had finished my salad. It had been left on the grill a little too long and the marble bread was slightly burned, which was disappointing. The sandwich had the right amount of corned beef but needed more sauerkraut for my taste. Overall it was a so-so meal.

There was a good amount of meat too! There was even enough dressing to cover everything without feeling drenched or the salad being to dry. Their mushroom sandwich was good but too many onions for us. Their classic grilled chicken sandwich was two chicken fillets and spiced well and tasted good but it had open areas where it was just chicken & bun. However she would've preferred more chicken on it since it only covered the center of the sandwich. The service was quick in the drive through even though it was a high time of lunch and seemed quite busy. We couldn't go in because we had dogs in the car with us. So we brought our lunch to a lovely park nearby. So I can't judge the ambience, but the exterior looked nice.

It's been many years since I've been back, and I was so sad to see that they really haven't kept the restaurant up very well. While traveling on business, I thought I would grab some lunch and work on a project. A hostess offered to seat me, but became quickly confused about exactly where to put me and we ended up walking to several areas of the restaurant that had empty tables before she was able to get some assistance and find the right booth for me to sit in. Unfortunately, they do not have Wi-Fi so I wasn't able to stay. I would have ordered their classic "French Cheesy" sandwich which sells for only $4.50 (it is sold a la carte, as all of the sandwiches are). Much of the menu is fried, although they do offer a salad. I choose to keep my nice memories of the granary as a fun, family-friendly place to eat. I was really sad to see that it had aged so much. I hope that it's current owners, or anyone who takes it over in the future will opt to redo the interior & give it the love that it needs. It's meant to feel warm and homey. This has definitely been a treasured restaurant in Norfolk for many years and it deserves to be taken care of.
