I'm usually a regular at the Albert Dock branch because it's more convenient for me, but I do really like this branch. It's located inside an old bank, which makes you feel like you're getting a side of heritage with your pizza. However, as an addict, I would give up the heritage for aside of garlic dough balls! Obviously, the menu is the same in every Pizza Express but if you're a virgin (unlucky you) I'll advise you on my favourites. Here goes: for a starter I would get the dough balls every time - boring maybe but that way you get some yumminess but still have room for the next two courses! Gem (another Pizza Express addict - maybe they should start up rehabilitation?!!) would always, without fail, pick the bruschetta, which does look delicious but I'm not a huge fan of tomatoes. For the main, we would both have Pollo de Astra on the Romana base (a fancy term for extra extra thin).... it is literally heaven on a 14" plate. Admittedly, I've only had dessert once due to the excess gorging on the starter and the main - once we managed to squeeze in a chocolate fudge sundae type thing which really did finish me off. It was worth it though. Note: if you're going out with a group, or even the two of you, always check the internet for vouchers as you can often get 50% off, or main meals for £1 etc. which really makes a difference to your bank balance!

Knowledgeable staff who were more than happy to accommodate my friend's diet, even said that if she brought her own vegan substitute they'd be more than happy to make it. When her pizza came it was loaded with veg and looked ridiculously tasty. I can't get enough of pizza express the cheesier and meatier the better. Much to my surprise, I found out this store has been open for over eight years, with a full glass interior and overall being really modern, this surprised me to find out the store wasn't newer - however it seems the overall look and feel of this branch seemed to be one of the few good things about this Pizza Express store, a store I had wanted to visit for a while now, and with a promotion to get any pizza for £5 through my mobile phone provider, O2, I felt it was the perfect time to try this store during my few days spent in Liverpool. The staff seemed a little eager at most aspects, which was both good and bad, it was good in the sense service was originally quick or in an "express" but bad in the sense that parts of my experience were rushed, the only part which took longer than I'd have liked was payment, someone come up to me with a card reader then vanished for no reason I could recall, with the store also being quiet on my visit, with no update, apology or excuse from the staff member. An example of service being quicker than I'd have liked was the staff coming over to see how my pizza was, while I was still in the middle of cutting it, meaning I hadn't had the chance to taste it yet, but the first thing which sprung to mind was the amount of sauce on my pizza, it was a little sloppy to the point where the first piece just slid off the chopping board (they use these for gluten-free pizza orders) flat down onto the floor, no member of staff offered to clean this up during my visit making it possibly a safety hazard for both myself and the next customer. I ordered the gluten-free Carbonara pizza after enjoying it at the Pizza Express in Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester and through a recommendation from my server as I was originally struggling to decide between that and the Ragu, I rather regret my decision now considering how it turned out. The amount of sauce on the pizza was just too much, I had to scrape some of it off, making the base slightly soggy, gluten-free bases are already far from fantastic in your standard commercialised Italian, but this just made it even worse. I also had issues from my egg, where it was runny where it should be hard, and hard where it should be runny, with the yoke not being runny at all and the egg whites being slightly runny - this might not be a breakfast restauraunt with the eggs being a bonus on the pizza, as I recall this is only one of two pizzas alongside the Florentina to feature a fried egg in the middle, but I have had so much better in the past from other Pizza Express stores and even rivals such as Zizzi, so it should have been a lot better. This store is a prime example of looks being deceiving, this store looks modern, exciting and bright, in a great central location in Liverpool city centre, right by the Wheel of Liverpool on Albert Dock, but sadly the food and service quality was really bad, to the point where I'm glad I had a coupon and only paid £5, which might seem good value for a pizza especially a gluten-free one, but I still can't help for a pizza of that poor quality which left me feeling sick for over an hours afterwards, even then I have been ripped off in an experiencce which puts me off Pizza Express as a whole.

I like weird stuff on my pizza though, as you may have discovered after reading my Shiraz review. APS does 18 inch pizzas with every slice a different topping, if you so choose. When ordering with my mate, he will only ever eat margarita pizza, so I end up only have half a pizza with weird stuff on, but still. I'm talking parma ham, rocket, brie, anchovies....all sorts. And those four slices are practically a meal. In fact, I'm sure if you thought about it and chose your toppings carefully, those four slices would count as a balanced meal. My favourite is the meal deal: two garlic breads, two bottles of coke and and 18 incher for around £14. When you consider standard pizza delivery places charge that much for a bog standard pizza, its pretty good. And once you've phoned up once to order, they save your number so that next time you call, they already know what you want and where. I'm impressed by that. APS I love you.

Tried Yelp and there are many Yelpers in this region so compared Trip Advisor and settled on a local pub that had decent reviews. Unfortunately the pub switched ownership and the menu totally changed. So we left and walked up the street and cosmically Johnny Dough's beckoned is in and we were so glad we opened the door and asked "are you still serving". The man (pizza chef) / woman (counter) duo were very welcoming and offered us tastes of the local beers and then offered to do a "half and half" pizza to meet both of our tastes. This was just what the Pizza Dan ordered and we really enjoyed the 1/2 marg and 1/2 pepperoni. Delicious and perfect lightly charred crust yet chewy and not too much sauce to sog. I definitely recommend this place.

While they admit on the menu, some of the pizzas aren't quite Neapolitan, they look delicious anyway! I really loved my truffle pizza, the only thing I would change is putting fresh mushrooms rather than canned (or maybe soak them in something that they don't have this vinegar taste). Other than that no complaints and would love to be back to try more!
