I'd been thinking it for years, thus I cut my journey short and hopped off knowing I could get home in a jiffy. It's a good place to have a wander, certainly, and thanks to this wander I located Ariete, yet another Italian eatery. I've often joked on Yelp about how I've found myself returning again and again to Mediterranean fare so many times that I bore even myself, but Ariete was so interesting it managed to buck that trend. Fairly young, this is a place that has a strong ethos. The food is not the focus. Uh-oh, alarm bells go off when you hear phrases like that. So, the food is not the focus - we can basically eat swill so long as the ambience and entertainment is up to scratch? Not the case here. The aim is to get all the senses going, not Heston Blumenthal style with iPods and dry ice but to combine non-invasive live music with delicious food, friendly welcoming staff and elegant decor. Oh and if you're wondering about all the sheepy emblems around, Ariete is Italian for ram. Aries, non? All the European languages link up in some way. You'll get all your usuals - seafood, beef, salads, risottos, pasta, pizza, antipasti for picky days and even some more unusual options such as seafood pancakes (highly recommended, by the way, I don't normally lust after creamy sauces but I can't resist that white wine and cheese option). The sides are superb too, garlic bread to get a room with and dough balls so springy you'll want to keep poking them. Plus the desserts are stunning and the service matches up nicely. Looks like I'll have to cut my train journeys short more often!

What is today the entrance to the restaurant was originally the gateway into Haydock Park Racecourse. When the archway became too narrow for the increasingly wide coaches, it was donated to the former 'Council of Newton-le-Willows' as an entrance to the local market. The building is very impressive with a long and interesting history. Everything about Ariete is brilliant, food, atmosphere and service. A very different experience - check it out!

On a rare trip to Warrington where I used to frequent more often in the past I managed a breezy encounter with Delgados. My only regret was not to indulge more in their cuisine for I was more of a pecker than a gorger on their food on this occasion. The location is odd as its hidden really, and although I wouldn't go as far as calling it a hidden gem. A decent restaurant it certainly is. Next time you are go karting in Warrington (best place for go karting in the country, "period" as Americans would say) check this palce out.

One of the best pizza places in the city and probably not even that well known by those living in…read morethe same area, the Pizza Parlour generally loses out to the Domino's, Papa John's et al situated nearby getting all the attention but if anyone in the south side of the city feels the need for the taste of a real pizza then head here or get it delivered. The Pizza Parlour is really a small restaurant that offers pizza and pasta in a more refined, but still casual, environment than many of us are used to unless going to Pizza Express. The Pizza Parlour is just as tasty as Pizza Express but not nearly as dear with it super size pizza - enough for three - only setting you back £11 for most toppings. There is also beer and wine which makes it some like more grown up experience but all of this can delivered if you still want to slob about in your pyjamas. Even though I do like a Domino's, you can still taste the difference here as the pizzas taste fresher and have a real home-made quality to them.

The chicken in particular is excellent. Some other pizza parlours in town offer fatty pieces of chicken with little proper meat, whereas in this place the chicken pieces are full of proper meat. The prices in general are also excellent. You can get a pizza around 2 quid cheaper than if you bought the same size from pizza hut in the city centre. They also have an offer whereby if you spend over ten pounds on a particular order you can get a free garlic bread. The free bread is usually around 9-10 in size. All in all, I would recommend this place to anyone, as it is excellent in all departments.

One of Frodsham's many take away shops and this one is open late and serves ok food…read more They are based around a kebab shop serving chicken, sheish and donner kebabs, & pizza among many other kebab shop favourites. Prices are very reasonable and you get decent sized portions. Lets face it late night takeaway is never going to be gourmet dining but these guys do an ok job at it. Food is always cooked fresh, they use fresh dough on their pizza bases and the food tastes great when drunk. Staff are friendly and helpful and food is always delivered in good time.

Curley's Fisheries has always had a café. It started off as a shed, then a slightly bigger shed,…read morethen a portakabin type shed, and then now it has reached the peak of its evolution in a newly built but beautifully complementing building which now contains Curley's Dining Rooms. The café always had loyal regulars, and always achieved good customer service, and word was spread far and wide about their great quality food, but with the opening of a very modern and stylish new airy and spacious dining room, offering traditional favourites as well as a great evening menu, and beer and wines from Bank Top Brewery, it's attracting new customers from far and wide, eager to see the changes, or try the new food they've heard so much about. The dining room itself is a lovely open space with modern dark furniture and reclaimed church pews, with features including a large coal-burning open fireplace (amazing in the winter when accompanied by the under-tile heating!) and a baby grand piano, which is frequently played by a pianist, to accompany your meal. The windows facing water-side all open fully concertina-style allowing a semi al-fresco feel in the warmer summer months, and offering some beautiful views right the way to the Fylde coast. On a clear day, you can even see Blackpool Tower! I love the way the menu is presented as the "Daily Catch" newspaper, telling the story of how the café started and developed, along with photos, and then inside the menu is designed in a similar newspaper style. The menu offers a great variety of fish dishes as well as classic favourites, salads, hot and cold drinks, snacks, and desserts, all of which I'm happy to say are at pretty decent prices considering the quality of the offerings! The fish has a perfectly crisp batter, and lovely fresh hot chips, accompanied by a wonderful home-made tartare sauce and a wedge of lemon. The fish is presented on a gigantic fish-shaped plate, which as well as perfectly containing the very large fish offered, is a fantastically theatrical statement when it arrives. I ordered the prime cod, which although my photo does it no justice, was colossal! There was a menu option for an 'extra large cod', which considering the size of the standard cod, must require the concertina windows to be opened to get it into the dining room, surely! As you can imagine, after this beast, I couldn't manage a dessert, but the cake cabinet at the front of the dining room only taunted me that I wouldn't be able to try what looked like some very tasty cakes! Bank Top Brewery providing the beer and wine means that if you don't quite fancy traditional chippy fare, you can still have a tasty and well prepared meal, and a pleasant evening, and equally if you wanted to simply pop in during the daytime for a slice of cake and a cup of tea, you'd get just as pleasant experience. I'm making myself hungry simply remembering this visit. I really must visit again soon!

Visited this establishment yesterday and was very disappointed…read more Firstly the waiter showed my party (3 of us including myself) to our table and whilst walking en-route I stood in a pile of chips which were on the floor which wasn't pleasant. Our table was dirty and there was food matter on the menus which felt sticky. I then went to the toilets and tip toed past the chips on the floor in an exaggerated movement making it blatantly obvious to an observing waiter but the mess still wasn't cleaned up. The toilet area was also dirty, no toilet roll and the contents of someone's lung infection was spat into the sink. On ordering the food I was informed that the drinks dispenser machine was broken and my £2.40 glass of coke was poured from out of a litre bottle, which was next to the till, therefore it was warm and barely had any fizz. I love Nando's and the food was good hence the two stars and not one, but this is a dirty establishment which needs a good clean from top to bottom.
