I was expecting great things from this pizza restaurant, which has rave reviews on most food and restaurant review sites. We went with an Italian friend, who considers this his favourite Italian restaurant in London, which is another high recommendation. For those not in the know, this is a traditional and Italian owned pizza and pasta restaurant, about 5 minutes' walk from Clapham Junction station. Its speciality is pizzas to share: they are oblong, and you order 'by the metre' (actually 25cm per person). It comes on a long platter which, if there are more than two of you, is placed on a metal 'table' put on top of the main table. Three of us had pizza like this, and my other half had pasta. (If there are two of you, they seem to put the smaller platter on the table itself). It's a little pricey - around £9-£10 a head - but freshly made with quality ingredients. Overall, expect to pay around £25 a head for pizza, wine and coffee: 12.5% service charge is added to the bill automatically. The plus points were that the service, when we arrived, was very friendly and swift, and the house wines completely acceptable (although buying by carafe is more expensive than some of the bottled wine, so be warned). They were also happy to serve us generously with tap water, which is another good sign in my book. By 8pm the restaurant began to fill up, and by 9pm it was packed, with people waiting for a table. My partner's seafood pasta arrived first, and smelt very fishy, and was by all accounts delicious. Our pizzas - or should that be pizza? - was a little longer in arriving. They/it were absolutely delicious - the roasted and smoked vegetables on mine were as good as anything I've tasted, and there was plenty of it: I was glad not to have had a starter. The downside, however, was that the platter was metal, and cold, and putting it on the metal stand (also cold) meant that after the first slice my pizza was cooling rapidly, and by the third slice (of four), was completely stone cold. It was also a pain to have a metal stand at nearly at eye level - hardly conducive to good conversation. All in all, this seemed to me like a triumph of gimmickry over food quality. The second gripe was that, as they got busier, service quality declined alarmingly: my partner had to ask for butter (to go with the bread) four times before it arrived. The bill and payment, in contrast, were sorted quickly. Overall, the platter concept spoiled our meal: a normal plate, heated beforehand, would have made all the difference, and apparently they will serve it that way, if you prefer. Pizza Metro serves up a metre-long pizza that is appetising, satiating and delicious enough to want you going back for more despite not being able to finish the generous portions the first time round. There are a unique and vast variety of pizzas to choose from. Don't worry, each pizza is not a metre long but can be that way when baked together or ordered in combination. The olives and vegetables are nicely fresh but the grilled vegetables though grilled and presented well were a little bland in taste. The meatballs in sauce are a good choice of starter. There is a limited choice of drinks and these are a little overpriced. But all in all the atmosphere is great, the decorations well placed, the service joyous and the food of high quality; in short a great local pizza place. Really delicious pizza; love the novelty factor of ordering it by the metre and having a massively long pizza raised up in the middle of the table on its own platform. Liked the memorabilia and noisy atmosphere. A fun place, and I'll definitely go again when we have guests who have never seen a very long pizza. However, this place misses the top mark for me because the service was slow and inattentive on the Saturday night that we visited, and the pizza dough was verrry soggy (albeit tasty). P.S The dessert 'menu' has to be seen to be believed. Rather than a printed menu, our waiter brought over a plate which had on it a dry old slice/bowl of every dessert that they offer. If that weren't heave-making enough, the ice cream is represented by a balled up piece of toilet tissue dipped in glue, then cocoa powder! I bet their dessert sales would go up threefold if they threw away the crusty replica food and typed up a normal menu! read more

Have to say that I was a little disappointed with this place as I was expecting better pizza. It certainly isn't one of the best pizza places in London and does not warrant 5/5 stars (as Time Out suggests). Don't get me wrong, the pizza here is still nice, but it's not fantastic. From the reviews I was expecting an experience like I've had in Rome or Naples, but it fell way short. The pizza was tasty, but I'd score it no higher than 6/10. I wouldn't discourage you from going here, but neither would I encourage it. I'm sure you can have much better pizza in London (SpaccaNapoli was certainly much better before it closed). read more

Okay, so the pizza here is seriously good, like in fact everything else at this place. Let's start with the pizza. Quite simply, each ingredient is outstanding. The base is the pivotal element here, enjoying the rare combination of being thin, fluffy and chewy. It's unusual to find this: pizza bases are frequently too crispy or undercooked. But not here - it's absolutely delicious. The tomato sauce meanwhile is fresh, tasty and in a perfectly judged quantity. Likewise, the cheese, all too often the killer of pizzas by being in excess, is sparingly applied and of excellent quality. Together, it all adds up to a class-leading pizza, right up there with Franco Manca and possibly even preferable to it if you don't like the sourdough tang in Franco Manca's pizzas . The pizza alone would merit a 5 star rating for Pizza Metro Pizza. But stopping at that would be unfair on the other aspects of my experience here: The service was fantastic. Quick and polite, with the waiters going out of their way to be helpful, for example always topping up my glass with tap water when I'd emptied it. The dessert was of similarly top quality. I opted for a Tiramisu, which had a consistency perfectly balanced between creamy and moist. I also liked the lack of dessert menu: instead, a waiter simply arrived with a tray containing examples of each dessert on offer. Although Pizza Metro Pizza can't claim a first in this presentation of desserts, it's a rare and welcome innovation when the normal alternative is to buy blind. So, in sum, this is comfortably 5 star material, buoyed by some of the best pizza in London. My only comment is that though the Bufalina I had was excellent, it was also quite expensive at £12.50 - such is this place's mastery of the basics that I'd go for a £8.50 Margherita next time. Overall though, this is one of the top pizzerias in London. Highly recommended to pizza lovers, foodies or anyone after a quick and relatively cheap meal. read more

I have to admit when a friend suggested dinner at this place, I looked at the website and was about to suggest something else in the area. I'm so glad I didn't! It was 4 of us and we ordered 2 starters - fried cheese (yum, reminded me of mozzarella sticks) and the garlic bread... that looked like a little pizza. We ordered 4 different kinds of pizza and yes, it arrived in a meter and nicely placed depending on where you were sitting. Let me begin my review by breathing deeply, preparing for shoes to be thrown, and saying... Pizza made in England is, for the mostpart, HORRIBLE. It waddles the fine line between thick and thin crust (it would be extremely un-English to commit to EITHER) with too-salty tomato sauce and too-greasy toppings. I know, as I endured it for 18 years before hopping both ponds and discovering the sensory euphoria that is American and Italian pizza. England and pizza are JUST NOT FRIENDS. Fortunately for you lot (alas, not for me) Pizza Metro set up shop - allowing South-of-the-River residents (and those willing to make the trek - myself included) to enjoy pizza by the METER. It makes for an extremely pleasant dinings experience, particularly as they "section off" your enormous pizza slab to accomodate individual taste preferences. Their pizza is thin-crusted, crunchy, salty, cheesy, delicate GOODNESS. The atmosphere is lively and the staff welcoming (if a little bit slow when coping with everybody in the U.K. hoping for a decent bite of pizza). When the Italian's tell you it's the real deal, you listen. While the highlight here is definitely the pizza - gorgeous chewy bread with perfect tomato sauce serve warm from the brick oven - you can't go wrong with anything else. The gnocchi was delicious, the aubergines perfect and all served in truly authentic style (which means they can be a bit abrupt and leave you alone for too long). One word of caution - never ever order takeaway. It will be 20 minutes later then they promise you and if the pizza is cold by the time you get it home, it's just not worth it. Went here with the wife on a Saturday night. Had no problems getting a reservation on the day of. We've done the pizza by the meter thing at Made in Italy, which is closer to where we live. I loved the pizza at Made in Italy so I was doubtful that the pizza at Pizza Metro Pizza would be as good but with all the rave reviews, I figured it was worth trying. We started with a plate of grilled vegetables. The vegetables were very thinly sliced. I'm not sure if I liked that but they were pretty good. Then we got our pizzas -- we each got a pizza. If you're not a big eater, you can probably get by with 2 people to a pizza but you can always take leftovers home. It was pretty good. It seemed like the pizza was not cooked as long as at Made in Italy -- I like my pizzas crispier and slightly burnt as opposed to soft and squishy. One of our pizzas had rocket on top -- kinda strange. It's like taking your salad and dumping it on top of your pizza. Not sure if it worked for me. Overall, the pizza was still excellent. Rocket + Sausage + Cheese + Sweet Red Peppers= A delicious combination of flavors I would have never thought to put together. But man, does it work. I didn't realize that the pizza came without sauce. But that was quickly remedied by asking for a side of marinara to dip my slices in. The couple beside us gave me the side-eye and I assumed it was because we were eating the pizza with our hands. No fork and knife for this girl. I like to get dirty when I eat pizza. The only way it should be done. Anyhow, the couple may have been jealous that our pizza was uber big and uber pretty. And the pizza wasn't all show. It tasted very good and had a crusty-chewy dough. *Hallelujah* I recommend making a reservation because the place gets really popular. The only damper was that this location is small so if there's a party of, say 10 or more (like a freaking hen-do) don't count of having a conversation with your dinner party. Pizza Metro definitely has incredible pizza. I've been here a few times and I'm convinced it's the best pizza I've had outside of Naples. They serve pizza by the "meter" and if you choose 2 different types to share they serve it as one large half and half. The pasta is pretty good as well but the real star is the pizza. I think the real test of a pizza place is how well they do the traditional Margherita but for Pizza Metro I would recommend the PizzaMetroPizza with meatballs, aubergine and other great ingredients. I have been here twice now and honestly do not think i have ever had better Italian food and am over the moon that Pizza Metro Pizza is right on my door step. The restaurant has a buzzing atmosphere with a quirky mish mash of Italian memorabilia (having dinner next to a vespa was good fun) Although i do admit, it is a little loud and maybe not the most suitable for family outings (even though there were a few young families in there) but this in no way takes away from the experience. The hosts and manager were all really curteous and each served with a smile on his or her face. The food... Now this is where the restaurant really seperates itself from all other Italians i have been to over the years. The pizza (as you will read in previous reviews) Is unbelievable. Even better than Pizzacano in Leeds (thats how far i have had to go to make a comparison) The pizza is excitingly served on metre long trays and a tables order is all cooked together on the same dough, which is always soft and easy to manage. You cannot imagine integrating meatballs onto a pizza so perfectly. Last night i ate at Pizza Metro Pizza and opted for a pasta. I had the seafood pasta (the Italian of which i cannot remember the name for) It was by far the tastiest pasta dish i have ever had. The muscles were'nt bland or chewy. The King prawns were seemingly steamed and then put into the dish and the whole thing was finished off with a delightful sauce. Top Marks - I will be coming back a lot - fact. read more

Really really like pizza metro when I crave... Well pizza! The dough is amazing and they have a large choice of toppings - I usually go for simple toppings : love their marinara (no cheese! Perfect if you're on a diet haha), buffalina (tomato, buffalo mozzarella and basil) and malanzane (aubergine tomato ricotta and basil) Minus one star because their menu can be confusing. One day my BF ordered 4 pizzas to take away (yes for the 2 of us!) and they were all 'white' (cream/cheese base instead of tomato base) which I hate! I ended up eating on or two slices because I was starving but I did not enjoy at all ... Maybe they should change their menu and clearly separate white and red pizzas? I love pizza. I've been missing pizza. Pizza in the US is an amazing thing. I had yet to have decent pizza in the UK, until Pizza Metro Pizza. A new friend suggested Pizza Metro Pizza while we were wandering around Northcote Road and I absolutely had to challenge my skepticism of UK pizza. The pizza here is good! Really good! The ingredients are all obviously fresh, the crust is perfect and fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside. My Quattro Formaggi (oh, I hope that's spelled correctly) was delicious, but perhaps a wee bit heavy handed with the ricotta. This was an easy, scrape it off fix, though. The service was lovely, no complaints there at all! We skipped dessert because I was chock-full of pizza, but the dessert tray was a bit dubious looking at best. I'm sure they're delicious items, but the presentation leaves something to be desired. Overall, a great experience. Beware the birthday gong! read more

how wonderful it is to live in Sw11 and be 5 min walk from Donna M AND Pizza Metro Pizza. My kids like the latter and I am now trending towards it. G. is a big Gnocchi fan, M. likes pasta, R the salad and me, I like the just about perfect Pizza Napoli. Though we sometimes can agree and get a group meter long shared pizza. Kids also like the fish tank and like sitting near the white scooter. Which is fine. If the kids are happy in a place with great food and reasonably priced nice wine then I am too. This place is great! Finally I have found some GOOD pizza in London (applause applause). I can't give it 5 stars cause I'd rate a place like Lombardi's in NYC 5 stars and although Pizza Metro Pizza is really good, it's no Lombardi's (but that's okay very few places can be). When it comes to pizza it's all about quality ingredients. The less quality/fresh ingredients the less yummy the pizza. Pizza Metro Pizza shares in my belief and offers up deliciously fresh pizza filled with what you can very easy discern are quality ingredients. The pizza's come funny and long style, meaning if you and 2 friends each order a pizza they will come as one very long pie. Trust me there's no disadvantage with this. The pizza is quite big too, for lunch we would have been fine splitting one pizza and an app as it's quite filling. This place does deliver but there is a 15£ minimum (basically 2 pizzas) but is also quite easy to get too from Clapham Junction and various buses including the 35 and 37 via Clapham Common tube. Can't think of any real negatives to say about this place, service or pizza... the pizza was kind of soggy which made it difficult to eat proper new york style (fork and knife was unfortunately the best method) but I'll happily take a juicy pizza over a dry pizza any day. Definitely recommend you give Pizza Metro Pizza a try, you won't be disappointed!!! read more

Pizza Metro is the friendliest pizza restaurant I've been to thus far in London, hands down. I can't be sure but it really feels like this place is family run - the staff are so helpful and nice and you feel liek you're sitting in the middle of a bustling, neighbourly atmosphere. Everyone is chatting, plates are clinking, pizzas are being munched... There's a mix of big groups of friends, families and couples. I love the fact there seems to always be quite a lot of kids eating in here too, it makes you feel like you're definitely in safe hands if they are catering to lots of families all the time, for some reason... Atmosphere aside, I've had so many pleasant memories of delicious home made pizzas in here. You can get a huge selection but, you know what, even the plain margarita is superb. I recommend supporting this independent restaurant, which seems to run on friendly staff and hearty warming food... read more

I would give this place 3.5 stars if I could. I liked the place - it seemed very authentically Italian. But I think I ordered the wrong pizza - I got the mushroom/truffle oil one, and it wasn't very flavourful. Not bad, but I wasn't excited about it. I liked my starter a lot better, the baked goat cheese. But between the two of these, I couldn't finish my pizza, I was so stuffed! I came with a group of 6 people, and we got good service - they gave me a cute box to stick my leftover pizza in. I'll give them this much: the pizzas are delicious. However, the service leaves something to be desired. I went here last week in a very large party (around 16) - I KNOW this is challenging, but on the other hand I feel the need to disclose that we waited AN HOUR for our food, the pizza flavours were all completely in the wrong order (and therefore in front of the wrong people), an order was missing, the people who ordered other meals got them about 20 minutes ahead of everyone else, and the staff were not at all apologetic. Based on the same idea as the Metro Pizza in Vico Equense, near Sorrento, where people drive for hours to try it, Battersea Rise Pizza Metro has a great pair of pizza makers from Napoli who produce the real thing :-) I originally had given it a 4 instead of a 5, because the decor is too much like all these Italian restaurants abroad, but I have already been back 3 times and the pizza is just perfect. read more

Came in with some friends for a loy w-key Sunday dinner. I liked the vibe - homey decor, lots of families (a really cute little toddler at one table drumming with an empty water bottle) and small groups. We asked about the "pizza by the meter" concept - basically, they bake all the pizzas the table orders into one long super-pizza. So the four of us each ordered a different pizza, but we still got the impressive presentation of a mega-pie on a stand on our table. As for the quality of the pizza, I'd say it was pretty good. I went for the Napoli, with anchovies, capers and black olives. Black olives were from a can - which they actually do in Naples (I was a little surprised when I visited there that they usually use lower quality ingredients as toppings for pizzas - maybe because the only "legit" pizzas are marinara and margarita?), but the quality of the cheese and sauce were good. Everyone else liked their pizzas - the guys even went for a second round (too much for me, though - the first was already quite a generous portion!) We split a bottle of Montepulchiano, which went down nicely. Overall, pretty good value, good food, friendly staff. I still prefer Franco Manca (better quality ingredients, better wine), but the presentation here is unique and kind of cool, especially with a group - the more people, the longer the mega-pizza. very dissapointed....i went there with my friend....we had ordered one pizza and one seafood pasta.....1 botle of wine.....paid overcharged price...£75. Because the pizza was large...they charges for 2 pizzas as i seen on the receipt. we havent even asked large one. -pizza watery...runny....with toppings falling of it...! not much taste...or flaivour. -seafood was ok...no flavoir again....i had to put lots of salt to be able to eat it.only 2 large prawns stuck on the plate. wont returning there again. i could recomend very good pizza in finsbury park "la porcheta" ...superb. but too far for me to go there,so i wanted to try this one :( read more

Pizza Metro Pizza is the best pizza experience I've had in London and possibly the best pizza I've had in the last couple of years to be honest. I've lived just around the block from Pizza Metro Pizza for several months now and just stopped in for the first time last night with a group of friends- what a fantastic experience! To start, the service was excellent- everyone working there seems to be Italian and they were all so kind and welcoming. Everyone in my group ordered pizza and were surprised when our meal arrived as one LONG super-pizza that stretched the length of our table! We'd all ordered different varieties of pizza, so the super-pizza was sectioned off into different toppings. The minute our meal arrived I'd already starting getting excited that we'd definitely have leftovers, but in the end we all stuffed ourselves silly and there wasn't a crumb left on the table. Absolutely awful experience from start to finish- criminal that we had to pay for it! We were 'greeted' by the Manager who moved us to a table that was practically in the kitchen and told us we needed to be out by 9.15, before we had even sat down. The food was overpriced standard Italian food and the service was slow and awful. Our waiter, the manager, made a point of correcting my pronounciation of a dish and critised me for adding parmesan to my pasta and seafood. When asked by the same manager why we didn't want to pay the 12.5% service charge (I have never done this in any restaurant before) I was met by a rant of abuse in the restaurant when I explained that I felt he had been rude and we had not received any good service, one lovely comment was, "you would find anything rude." This is the best pizza in town. When my parents visited us from the US for two weeks they ate dinner here at least 3 nights. They miss it now that they are back home. My husband and I sometimes have it delivered, though I agree with other reviewers that it's best eaten in the restaurant. The hostess and staff might not rush your food to the table but good food takes time and the atmosphere is fun enough that we don't mind. The kitchen is also very accommodating and will make a Vegetarian pizza with no cheese upon request. All of the pizza varieties on the menu are great but what really makes their pizza so delicious is the thin crust and chewy texture of the dough. If you haven't been here yet you're missing out! Great pizza place! Excellent pizza, warm environment and service. The only thing missing was a better choice of wines.

You can hardly fault Pizza Metro on its pizzas. The concept of selling pizza by the metre is delightful. They are presented on high rectangular trays (which frustratingly sit squarely in front of people's faces so you can't see those sitting opposite you) and are made quickly in proper pizza ovens, and topped with excellent fresh ingredients like ricotta or spicy sausage or rocket. All their pizzas are good, and quality is consistent year after year. Staff are really friendly and enthusiastic. Starters are less accomplished, if not downright poor, and the wine list is completely forgettable. But Pizza Metro has atmosphere (always full) and charm, and is easily one of the best independent neighbourhood pizza places in London. read more

Pizza Metro is another great independent Italian on Battersea rise. The pizzas come on a long wooden board, cut into squares which rests on a long steel table which is placed on top of your table. The variety of topping were mouth-watering and if was difficult to choose but I finally went for meatballs with mozzarella and aubergine. It was delicious and service was great too! read more

I`ve never seen such a pizza before. And I have seen a lot of pizzas :) When I came here for the first time I expected something ordinary and not very tasty, like most pizzas in London. But when saw the pizzas on the other tables my jaw dropped. This was the biggest and the best looking pizzas I`ve ever seen. Later I realized that one meter pizza is actually four small pizzas, but this looks good. I imagine I can eat the whole meter pizza by myself :) Surely this is a place that everybody should visit. read more
