Who would have thought that on a Monday in tiny little Coonawarra there would be a restaurant that…read morewas open for lunch and that it would be teeming with customers. I guess it was the day before the Melbourne Cup and all the Victorians escaping the frivolities in Melbourne escaped to the nearest good quality wine district. The waitress said she turned 50 away at lunch on that day, my guess was 30 but it was certainly a lot. My previous dining experiences in Coonawarra ran to an exotic sandwich such as salami, cheese and gherkin on white bread but this little gem is changed it all. I called in for a coffee in the morning (which was good) and asked if I should book for lunch and thank goodness I accepted the waitress's advice. They are well regarded for their pizzas but I didn't want anything as heavy as that so I went for a couple of entree serves which were excellent. Service was pleasant and efficient, not quick but not slow given the numbers of people they had in the restaurant. The owners run a small wine label, "Otteliia" which sources fruit from from various locations in the south-east. Riesling from Mount Gambier and Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra were my selections and they were both good. The Cabernet was particularly attractive with my selection of food. Prices for the food and wine were very reasonable especially having regard for the quality. I returned later in the day to buy a couple of the Cabernet to finish off my dozen carton of wine purchases for the day. They were good enough to transport the box to my home in Adelaide at a reasonable charge. I go to Coonawarra quite often for work and I am looking forward to returning to this place for sure.

Amazing food - I had the BBQ Chicken Calzone and it was just delicious…read more We ordered some amazing pizzas to share and they were flavourful, tasty and on a great base. Atmosphere is friendly, comfortable and welcoming, we stayed for hours! Definitely check it out if you are indulging in some sweet sweet blue lake. (Which is also quite good, but nothing like the smooth taste of the calzone sauce).

Dim lighting, dated fittings, and a general atmosphere that sits somewhere between "charming vintage" and "slightly unsettling." Then came the food. My Greek salad arrived with an unexpected sharp piece of plastic. I pointed it out to the waitress, who took it out the back to the manager and chef. Their solution? Offer me another salad. No refund, no real apology beyond the basics -- just the chance to try my luck with a second one. The vegetarian pasta was bland. The cream corn soup was below average. Bread showed up without butter, and when the butter eventually appeared it was rock hard. Vegetarian options overall were extremely limited -- basically one uninspired pasta and not much else. The waitress was friendly, which is the only bright spot. Everything else felt like a place that has given up on both the menu and the interior. One visit was plenty.
