Super pizza place with a lot of other great stuff on the menu…read more I looked with envy at the other tables who were enjoying spectacular plates of spaghetti with mussels. * * * That said, my pizza was a grand slam home run. Many of their pizzas are quite elaborate With all sorts of exotic ingredients. I went super simple. Gorgonzola. Mozzarella. That's it. Just enough Mozzarella to cut the Gorgonzola and make for a good melt. * * * If you have never had a gorgonzola pizza, you have never lived. Just sayin'. * * * P.S. My lovely wife got a Norwegian salmon pizza. The Norwegian salmon was stacked up high on her pizza As if she was in the World Series of Poker and she was a big winner. I have never seen so much salmon on one plate. After our meal, I made a discreet phone call to the Norwegian embassy in Rome asking them if they still had any salmon left. The woman at the embassy assured me the Norwegian salmon supply was fine. That surprises me given all the salmon that was on my wife's pizza.

Being new to Rome, and having walked 20k steps on our first day, there are an abundance of options a for dining. We wanted something classically Rome nearby to our hotel. The Yelp review of this restaurant was sufficiently positive to entice us. Being American, we appreciate the earlier-than-customary dining options. We arrived at 6pm without a reservation. We were seated immediately. The restaurant is intimate and very well staffed. The wood fire oven is front-and-center and the fresh mozzarella is prominent in display. We ordered a bottle of wine ... all options are very fairly priced. This is nice. We started with a Greek salad to share. It was unlike any American Greek salad ... and a really delight. It is early June but the tomatoes and peppers were ripe and crisp and really fresh. My wife ordered the Marguerite pizza; I opted for the Gorgonzola pizza (the effusive review on Yelp was compelling). Both were solid. We appreciate the thin crust and the crisp edged. The center of both, however, was doughy and somewhat undercooked. Looking around ... the restaurant was over 50% full even at this early hour. Most were Americans. We saw a good number of diners with pasta dishes ... and none were left unfinished. Sadly, we don't have any comparisons to weigh (yet). So, I cannot affirm any "best of" citations, it this is certainly a solid trattoria/pizzeria. The staff are attentive and the food served hot and fresh.

But when we did stand at the entrance we were ignored by three other staff members even though we patiently stood their waiting and we're quite obviously waiting to be attended to. When we approached to ask for a table for six. The owner in a t-shirt snapped "NO!" while raising her crossed arms in the air as if we were asking her for the 20th time. Same woman whom sneered at us on our arrival and had the audacity to say WE were inappropriately dressed. By far our rudest experience in Roma in the last three days. Atrocious!

I made reservations for my family of 5: boys 17,15,13 on a slow Tuesday for their sidewalk seating "Al fresco". Upon arrival I was told that we are not eligible for outdoor seating due to children in the party - they were all dressed with collared shirts etc, and are very experienced with formal dining (which this was not). Long story short, other children from other family were seated outdoors; Pepe lied and said that the outdoor seating was fully reserved - ultimately 10 large tables went unused outside. The hostess & Pepe made my family very uncomfortable to be there and then failed to bring ordered items, never checked in with us, refilled waters etc. The service was the very worst that we have experienced in years. This is my first ever yelp review and I spent the 45 mins effort on vacation to get it published. My advice is to avoid this restaurant at all costs, especially if you are American. I suspect disrespect for the American Tourist was the true culprit at this neighborhood restaurant. If you read through these reviews, this disrespect for foreigners is a common theme. Such a bummer that anti-foreigner is a thing. Btw, the temperature inside was 15 degrees higher inside our empty dining room, thus my outrage.

Located in Trastevere, one of Rome's most charming and atmospheric neighborhoods across the Tiber, the location is slightly removed from major monuments, and full of winding streets, nightlife, and local hangouts. The atmosphere is intimate and lively, especially in the evenings, with a mix of locals and visitors creating a welcoming buzz. At around 9pm on a Thursday night, the restaurant was about three-quarters full, and our party of five was seated immediately. The menu encompasses everything you could want from a traditional Italian restaurant: a plethora of pastas, pizzas, and large format entrees; there's also lots of reasonably priced drinks if you're looking for an aperitivo! Two members of our party ordered their signature Cacio e Pepe (€16.50), which came with a generous portion of housemade tonnarelli pasta, PDO pecorino cheese, and freshly-ground black pepper. Their pasta was perfectly al dente with just the right ratio of flour, eggs (from their own farm!), and water, and the ideal thickness to pair with the creamy sauce. The earthy, woody black pepper also lent an intriguing addition to the rich dish. Another two friends sampled their Amatriciana (€16), which is rigatoni with guanciale (cured pork cheek), pecorino cheese, and a fresh tomato sauce. Don't let the simplicity of the dish fool you; the ridged rigatoni soaks up the bright, acidic tomato sauce beautifully, and the savory guanciale adds a lovely textural contrast, with parmesan for a rich yet tangy aftertaste. I ordered their Abbacchio al Forno (€19), which came with a gargantuan portion of roasted lamb on the bone, served with tender herbed potatoes and fresh lettuce. The lamb was flavorful yet not overly gamey, and I appreciated the lettuce on the side, as it seemed vegetables were few and far between during our time in Rome! Lastly, we ordered four Tiramisus (€7 each) - this was a fairly traditional take on the classic dessert, with pillowy ladyfingers soaked in espresso, topped with whipped mascarpone and a light dusting of cocoa powder. Four orders was probably overkill; each portion can comfortably serve two. We truly loved our meal at Osteria Cacio e Pepe - the vibe is warm and fun, the food is delicious, and price-wise, it's perfectly reasonable, fitting for a sit-down Roman osteria that balances authenticity with accessibility. We appreciated the complimentary limoncello shots to close out the night - just another example of the Roman hospitality we'd received all throughout our trip!
