Jersey Shore brought us, the pizza and service made us love this place! We had some of the best service and pizza here during our whole trip. They were so friendly, chatted with us throughout our visit and the most delicious pizza. Love all the Jersey Shore memorabilia! Just a cool place to stop in for lunch! Thank you for making our trip so memorable!

Why 5 stars? Because to-go portable pizza is a new phenomenon that I need more of in my life. --- --- --- After learning that Florence was not necessarily known for their pizza, but still trying some the day before, we wanted to save the room in our stomach for local specialties. But our hotel concierge recommended this place as somewhere that more locals visited than tourists, and they served pizza by the slice, so we came here for a "snack." I just expected a slice of pizza, the same way they serve it in the U.S., but it turns out, they take a giant slice, fold it in half, and served it to you the same way you'd receive a pretzel at a baseball game. Portable pizza! The only downside to this is that it messes up the cheese distribution a bit. But the good thing about that is that your last couple of bites are full of cheese! The dough was excellent here. Probably even better than what we'd had the day before at a really popular pizza spot.

Pizza with stuffed crust we watched them make.

The pizza here was spectacular. We do not hesitate to recommend this stop! It's just a small casual sort of place. They have ample inside seating and a couple outside tables. But you don't go here for the atmosphere-- you go for the pizza! Their wood fired oven is front and center in the restaurant. You can watch them make your pizza from start to finish while they are also continuously preparing more fresh ingredients for other customers. Definitely fabulous-- we ate every bite. The people who own it and working there were very nice. I see some weird review about getting a bad slice there-- they don't sell pizza by the slice. Only the usual tuscan pizza that is a bit larger than a dinner plate. Run there and try one of their numerous pizzas! They offer many combinations and styles!! Yummy!

Can not say enough great things about this place! I found them on a Yelp search and it was well worth the trip. The pizzas are huge for one person (14") and two people could easily share one. I've not had a true Florentine pizza, but this totally exceeded expectations. The cost is extremely reasonable for what you get. If I had one more night in town, I'd be going back one more time.

After a leisurely bike tour around Florence, my husband did something unexpected. We were hungry for lunch, so he suggested walking around and picking a random spot to eat. This caused a little anxiety, but I was down for the adventure. For once, the worker standing outside a restaurant trying to recruit customers actually worked. We walked into O'Vesuvio and got seated immediately. Our waiter was a little rude and dismissive, but maybe I was just hangry. I got a Crudo sandwich with prosciutto, mozzarella, and arugula. I was skeptical at first, but it turned out to be pretty good. I'm not sure how you can screw up a sandwich in the country with fresh ingredients, but I'm sure it's possible. I appreciate the casual vibe, as this seems like a popular place to drink a few beers and watch TV. The attitude of the wait staff matched what you might find in a dingy pub. to be fair, some people prefer that. I just didn't. Walking out of this restaurant, I wouldn't tell friends to cross town and eat here, but I was for filled after a few hours of exercise. The business still seems sketchy, but I'm glad we made it out of there unscathed.

Delicious pizza and amazing service! Being in Europe means getting used to rude service (especially when American, and I mean fair enough) however this place was so welcoming! I got the margarita extra bufala and it was DELICIOUS! Their tomato sauce is heavenly. Definitely a more local scene and not tourist-y. Definitely give it a shot, I'll for sure be coming back!

Friendly staff and great pizza . We came here because of Jersey shore and kept coming back for more . They have delicious margarita pizza and also have personal ones to go.

The Margherita pizza and the O'Vesuvio were both excellent! The prices were reasonable.

My wife and stepdaughter discovered this gem in 2018, so it was our first meal here on our 2022 family trip. The pizza is fantastic Neapolitan style and very reasonably priced, considering it's city center location. We loved it so much, we went back a second time and plan on going one or two more times before we leave. Also try the meatballs. They were amazing. Grazie mille to the manager Ana, who is really great and was so kind to our five year old son.

Pizza was ok. They brought the wrong order the first time but the waiter was nice and changed it quickly. The person at the cashier was so rude, we had to wait for more than 10 min standing and nobody showed.. then the guy snapped at us when we asked why they charged more for the coke. They did not give us the receipt they just say a number and expect us to pay it . Never again .

From the outside, it looks like a grand, iron-and-glass structure typical of European markets; inside, it opens into a bustling, multi-level space filled with food vendors, communal tables, and constant movement. The vibe is energetic, social, and slightly chaotic in a fun way - perfect for grazing, group dining, or trying multiple cuisines in one visit (from Italian to American to Mexican!). We stopped in for a quick lunch at around 2pm on a Wednesday; there was plenty of seating at high-top tables, and QR codes on paper menus make it easy to explore all the different food vendor options. It's also a fun activity to peruse the market, taking in different sights, smells, and flavors. All of us ended up opting for Schiacciatas (large Italian sandwiches that are a staple in Florence) from Massimiliano Parri, which all ended up ranging from €10-12, depending on toppings - yes, it's more expensive than what you'd get from a traditional schiacciateria, but you're also paying for the market's location and convenience. We appreciated the fact that they shave the meat right in front of you! My schiacciata came with freshly shaved ham atop crusty white bread, slathered with burrata cheese, and sprinkled with arugula and figs (I opted for no additional olive oil, since I found the ham quite rich already). I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, though I will say that the bread ended up cutting the roof of my mouth! All in all, Mercato Centrale is a bit touristy, but still miles better (and cheaper) than most "Italian" sandwich places you'd find in the US (pro tip: save your receipt for free use of their bathrooms). The variety can't be beaten, prices are reasonable for a central market, and it's steps from some of Florence's most iconic spots.
