Quaint hole in the wall pizza/panini eatery. Everything was made fresh, and our piping hot Margheritas just came out of the oven. Our favorite pizza place that we went to in Italy. Happy we made the teeny trek out here in the rain for it. It seems like half of the diners here go for their sandwiches and half go for the pizza. We came here twice for their pizza. Each "1" you order they cut off a big slice and then cut that one in half. Lunch for two can be as cheap as around 6 Euro. We loved all the flavors we tried - mushroom, sausage, proscuitto and cheese. The pizza is crisped just right and the crust has the right amount of thickness. For the late night dinner on the cheap, this is the spot. Closes at midnight so you have some wiggle room on getting in. Casual dining setup where you order your focaccia bread sandwiches or pizza, then sit on one of the benches to eat. The set up is simple but the flavor is anything but. The speck sausage and Mozzarella pizza had a slight spice to add to the savory. Their sandwiches are made to order like spinach and mozzarella or the bacon and mozzarella. The menu was in chalk and from what I understood, the items change daily. So what I had one day may not be there the next. This is also a good "on the go" spot for sandwiches as they were not spilling out the sides when biting into them. read more

Super friendly staff and reasonable prices. I got the melenzane picante (eggplant) and funghi focaccine sandwiches each for 2.50 E. The bread is buttery and quite tasty, and the sandwich is heated in the oven right on the spot. My companion tried the mushroom pizza. When the server cut a pizza slice, I thought he was preparing the 2 slices I ordered (2.50 per slice; price varies per topping types). However, it turns out the slices are quite large, and he was cutting the first of two slices. The pizza crust is also buttery similar to the focaccia. It is crispy and thick the way I like it. There are wooden benches if you dine in. Overall the restaurant is a bit dark. They provide sturdy cardboard-like trays covered with wax paper if you take out. This place is near the train station and hence quite a hike if you live on the other side of Firenze. read more

We had some down time while traveling through Firenze Santa Maria Novella and stopped by Bondi Focaccine to grab a quick lunch. It is only about a 5 minute walk from the train station. The owners do not speak much English, which is fine with me. Although my Italian is not good enough to read the menu, I ordered some items behind the display case. The pizza and sandwiches here are pretty good, but I did not think it was anything special. The sausage pizza was delicious, but the spinach and cheese sandwich was pretty bland (1 star off). Prices were very reasonable; even with drinks, I don't think my husband and I spent more than 10€. I still recommend this little eatery for a quick bite, but would not recommend any special trips here. read more

Before Yelp travelers had a simple way to know if a fast-food was good: take a look at the people eating there. If you see people like taxi drivers, police man and employees from other restaurants, than it means you can trust that place. From this point of view Foceccine Da Bondi has five stars! Locals like them always go there and, even if it's located in the middle of a very touristy market (San Lorenzo), not many tourists get in. There is no wi-fi, there are few tables, it doesn't look cool but... it's a very typical and unique place! It's so unique that I don't even know how to call it: it's not a pizzeria, not a restaurant, not a fast food, maybe a focacceria. They do DELICIOUS customized focaccine, that means pizza sandwiches filled with healthy ingredients of your choice. Ingredients are local, always fresh and some of them are seasonal, so you won't always find the same ones. The two men at the counter are nice and friendly. If you don't know where to start, just choose the first ingredient and let them recommend a good combination. Normally 2 or 3 ingredients are allowed in a focaccina. Some of my favorite are baccalà and pomodoro (salted codfish and tomato) and pesto pomodoro and crudo (pesto, tomato and raw ham). They also have slices of pizza, just two kind: margherita and margherita con salsiccia. This last one is addicting! Everything in Focaccine da Bondi is traditional, no exception for the dessert: the torta con le mele (apple pie, Italian kind) and the classic cantucci con vin santo (biscotti which you dip into sweet wine). They used to be close on Monday - almost everything in Firenze is closed that day - but recently they decided to be open all week. See you there! :) read more

A classic of florentine nightlife, recommended for any visitor to the city who wants to experience something truly genuine. The recipes and the prices haven't changed in over a decade. Fight your way to the prep area at the back of this small store and order ingredients to be spread on focaccia and put in the oven. If you're not sure what to get, there are suggestions on the board, or just pick one ingredient and ask the guys to recommend what goes best with that. This way you avoid 'brutta figura' or 'looking like an idiot because you did not know that sausage and stracchino must go together but don't even think of putting spinach with that.' As for seating, be prepared to make new friends - the bench seating fit 4 to a table and at mealtimes it is full up. However, open late, you can easily find seating if you want an almost-midnight snack. read more

We were hankering for a sandwich after the train from Rome to Florence so I pulled out Yelp and found this gem. You better practice your Italian before you come because A: you're in Italy, at least attempt the language, and B: they don't speak English here. We found the place after following the advice of previous reviews not to trust the GPS. We entered and the place was bustling and not a word of English was being spoken. That's a big plus for us as it means the locals like it. My spouse wanted basil and mozzarella so I ordered in butchered Italian and the lady behind the counter showed me a mix of the two they already had. I got that for my spouse and I had a pepper sandwich. Both had delicious soft buttery cheese to hold them together. They were delicious. The establishment is dark and cozy and the fact that it's customer base is mostly Italians show's that it's a good place to eat. I'll definitely come here again when I'm able to. read more

I love Bondi. I go whenever I'm in Florence. I used to visit because it was reasonable and delicious. Now it's my first stop because it's become my comfort food place. This time I was addicted to the focaccine with cheese and mostardo. My friends had pizza with pesto and potatoes.
