I make every effort to support local business and entrepreneurs in my area. I like to think that…read morethis way my money is going back to the community instead of to executives or investors of huge businesses based in other cities and states. Unfortunately sometimes when you try to do this, you find businesses that are not professional and that don't honor their work and/or guarantees. I hired Odd Jobs to fix a section of siding that came off my house. I was quoted $225..."as long as I had the existing siding" and I was advised the work was guaranteed for 30 days after repair. The work was performed on 2/16. The workers never advised of ANY potential problem with the material nor did they advise the work done would be less than adequate...and they DEFINITELY did not indicate that the warranty would be voided for any reason. I even gave them a $20 tip after the work was done!!! Around March 1st & 2nd we had some moderate to strong winds in our area (about 35 MPH) and virtually ALL the replaced pieces came off the house again. Not one other piece came off my house or any other in the neighborhood...just the ones that Odd Jobs replaced. I contacted the business to advise of this and to ask them to fix the pieces as per their warranty. I was told ONLY THEN..."the work is guaranteed under normal circumstances but at 35-45 miles per hour winds sir that is a material failure verses craft men's ship that why it came apart the first time". This was the FIRST time that it was ever mentioned that using the existing siding would potentially be ANY problem. The company(I believe it is the owner) said they would come by to look at it to see what could be done. Over the next several days I was chasing them asking if they were going to come by to see what could be done but then they stopped responding to me completely. I advised today that I was going to make a complaint to the BBB and they FINALLY responded but only to make up more lies and excuses and deny responsibility to repair their shoddy work. To confirm their lack of credibility they told me they had an A-Plus rating with BBB...that is an easy lie to prove as they are not rated at all. Bottom line...This company quoted me the job knowing the expectation was to use the existing siding. They did the work using the existing siding without ANY mention of a potential problem. They took my money after the work was done without complaint or advisement of any problem. Only AFTER their substandard work fell apart did they retroactively start coming up with these excuses to avoid honoring their warranty. As information the business closed the conversation by telling me that I am a "cheap ba$t$rd" even though I paid the agreed upon amount for what turned out to be ZERO value as I am out $245 and I now need to find a reputable company to redo the work.

My outside water spigot was broken in the wall requiring plumbing and drywall work for repair. Not to mention they will drink your beverages from your fridge and leave food in your microwave until you find it due to the smell. When I spoke w/ Matthew, he was professional & friendly. He gives free estimates but on such a small job told me he would be able to complete it in less than an hour & that his minimum charge is $120. Rather than ending the price conversation as that, he added that if there was any other small projects he could also accomplish within an hours time of being there, it would still only be $120. I appreciated this addition to the conversation since he could have just left it at, "It will be $120" Matthew was able to make it out the day after our my initial phone call to him & repair the issue in less than 20 minutes & to fill the rest of the $120 cost, he was also able to stabilize dishwasher underneath the granite counter tops so it would not tip anymore. $120 seems a little steep but honestly, I've never called a handyman before so I don't know what the going rate is in the area. However, I will most likely be calling him in the future if the need arises. Both my tenant & I found him to be fast, honest, professional & competent. ....and you know what they say, "Sometimes you get what you pay for!" =)

Assuming perhaps he had me confused with another job, I responded that our schedule date was actualy 2 weeks after the date he mentioned and confimring that we were still on schedule. To this I got a response that he could no longer do our job and "was not the contractor for the job". As a professional property managment company our connection could have been lucrative, as I had used Matt in the past and had attempted to use him 2 other times, both times he was "too busy to assist". I hired Lawrence to repair an ice maker that had been broken for some time on Saturday, February 21st. He stated that the service call, parts, and labor would be $200. When he came out, he determined that ice had built up behind the refrigerator and he melted it. No parts were replaced, yet I was still charged the full $200. He said the ice maker should begin working within 24 hours. Unfortunately, the ice maker never started working. I scheduled a second appointment for him to return on Friday, February 27th. He cancelled the morning of the appointment due to physical therapy. Later that day, I asked when he would be available again and received no response until I followed up again by text 3 days later. On Monday, March 2nd, he said he could come Wednesday, March 4th, but did not provide a time after I asked. He finally provided a time at 10:36 AM Wednesday, stating he would arrive between 11 AM and 1 PM. Had this been communicated, it would have given both my tenant and me enough time to request time off instead of being notified at the last minute on the day of the appointment. I then requested a partial refund, but of course he still hasn't responded. $200 later and the ice maker still does not work. Communication and scheduling were very poor throughout the process.
