Over the summer, as I toured downtown with my out of town family, we wandered into LEAF on a Saturday. Saturdays are open to the public so make a point to head over there. They had so much fun banging on the African drums, playing in the touch-an-instrument room and creating art at the craft table - I instantly thought this would be perfect for a homeschool co-op. 7 families headed to LEAF for a 2 hour cultural arts morning. We split into 2 groups and we went downstairs and learned a beat on the drums - he was so patient with us haha. Then we switched and we got to learn a Bollywood dance and man I loved that. We also got a little snack, which was a nice surprise! Co-ops welcome - book your time at LEAF. If not, head there on a Saturday after walking Downtown and have a great time!

This is kinda steep if you ask me. all the money goes to Leaf Education or something like that. My Kid setup a table with 2 other friends and each had to pay $8. that is getting insane. well, sunday rolls around and they made the kids pay again. Well i ask for a refund for the sunday due from the main Volunteer Kids Coordinator named Morgan i believe. We he gave me the money back. Still high, but they wanted to make the people happy. so a very positive customer service experience.

Not one studio in the facility has a fixed bar. The larger class sizes left me jammed up in the corners of a small room most of the time. It also meant that the instructor could not pay attention to any specific student. Having taken other classes at this level in the past, the class did not seem to be following any sort of plan or planned progression. She just seemed to teach to the most advanced student in the room at the time. And, often times, even that student was left confused and scratching her head.

You can know when I'm taking a class because I can't stop giggling with joy. I have found so much growth in diving into my sensuality, in doing things I never imagined I'd have the strength for, and simply being myself and no one else. No one is watching to judge, only to cheer you on. I had a breakthrough the other day when I didn't believe I could climb the pole. I admitted my brain was telling me that I wasn't the sort of person that can do these things. I had tears in my eyes and before I knew it I was surrounded by the other girls in the class cheering me on...and I did it! Forever grateful for this family. Absolutely shocked to find that I have never been to the spot before. Speaking of privilege, a lot of that here. Went to see a show in the balcony the other night and it was a nice experience. Definitely wear a lot of the older wealthier Asheville citizens gather. Certainly a crowd here. Could've also been the event we went to which was a cultural performance. Ultimately, I appreciate that we have cultural performances in our city and a space for them. Parking was a little annoying just because it was Saturday downtown but I do like the space is central. Lots of places to eat at around. Finding it was incredibly easy as well. Inside, there was quite a bottleneck as we arrived about 20 minutes before the show. We did have to wait in line. It was a little bit confusing to figure out exactly where to go but some staff helped. They had wine for sale- house and pricier stuff. The house was around nine dollars a glass. I really appreciate that the staff helped us shoes and gave their opinion. The staff working the wine area was incredibly kind. The stage itself was gorgeous. It was very easy to see in here, no matter where you were.

The teachers are well seasoned and give clear cues so being new to the styles of yoga they teach isn't daunting. I've done hip hop, hip hop yoga, Buti yoga, and a gentle flow yoga and each of them have been classes I would love to take again. They have a motto that your vibe attracts your tribe and I would say their vibe is fun and welcoming. I felt like a regular attendee after my first class.

Newly opened October 2018 (for their permanent studio), Primal offers…read morequite the variety of ways to move- multiple forms of yoga from slow flows to the rhythmic Buti yoga to functional fitness to hip hop dance classes! Anyway you wanna get down is there! The instructors are all very down to earth and sincere, allowing you to have a genuine connection with each of them in your practice. I personally enjoy getting my jam on to Buti Yoga, Buti Yoga Lite, and Old School Flow. Buti Yoga is this beautiful class that combines animal flowing style of yoga with banging beats that gets your heart rate up and really allows you to let loose. It honestly called out to me and while I'm in this class, the primal energy just zips right through! It's nice to really let everything go in such a positive setting, where no one is trying to outdo anyone else- we just join our powers for a bit like Captain Planet to become these Wonder Beings! There is a Lite class available if you want to get a better grip of it before taking a standard class. If you're a little hesitant, Buti Yoga Lite is perfect to get used to moving your body using the techniques of Buti but at a slower pace and with more queues. It's even more of a "coming together" experience as we all learn this new style of movement. Whichever route you go, I definitely encourage everyone to try a Buti class at least once! Finally, I did not realize how much I'd be digging that Old School Flow! Old school hip hop makes everything better anyway, but this class is a great mid week flow that lingers in each pose for a bit and really opens you up. She usually tosses in just a liiiiittle bit of core work for good measure, and if you specify that you'd like it, makes nice manual adjustments and mini massages in certain poses. Oh so good! Lots of exclamation marks, but that's just how much I love Primal Studios. They're prices are unbeatable and they usually run specials for newbies, so be sure to check them out!
