Just a quick update on the local Planet Fitness. Almost a year later and I'm still going 3 or 4 times a week. Surprise! I want to recognize one of the employees. There is a young lady named Quo. She has impressed me in every way. Definitely the hardest working person there. She calls me by name every time I go, and she's always busy. Quo, your a superstar! Love Love Love PH And The Amazing Staff. I Am New To Abilene And The Staff Has Made Me Feel Welcomed

I am starting to become very disappointed with this local. When I join last fall I was told that it would be going 24hrs again very soon and it still hadn't happened.(March24) The evening staff keeps the gym very clean and are the best! Close at 10 is a problem for me so I try morning but the morning staff is a joke! Remember you are only as strong as your weakest link. It is always dirty and poorly run. Then last week was it for me they have been running this membership deal fine I already have it. The problem is that the other day the gym shower and bathroom was trashed and the staff in the morning was spending more time fixing streamer and balloons to keep the place clean. We have had three black card memberships since the day it opened. We each recieved our own trainer that set up our workout routines. The place it always clean , quiet . The staff are courteous. We get half price drinks and VIP status so, there's that.. The showers are AWESOME. Lockets a tad small for me ( I'm a large man ) but suffice . I like the no muscle head rules so there's no intimidation against my less than fit guests when I bring them and they struggle with the equipment the first few times ... Our granddaughter/adopted Daughter loves the place as does 2 of our daughters and my wife and I. We tend to go in when it's quiet as we are country people and not social.. welm they are not.. I am retired Air Force from New York so.. Lol I highly recommend this for everyone , ESPECIALY families . read more

Kinda bummed none of these clubs are 24 hours anymore. Went to Abilene PH one time and it did not have the normal lockers set up. Been to tons of clubs and this was the first one without lockers. Really annoying to have to walk back to car with everything I planned on storing out of the heat mid day. Other than that limited equipment wise as well. Especially free weights. Clean enough tho. Y'all really deleted the review I left on fb. It's okay! Old Lady was so rude about the whole situation if she would have handled it better I wouldn't even have had an issue. She came and followed me in the locker room saying I didn't hear her hollering at me. How could I , I'm walking towards a locker room. She even went as far to say "your not allowed on the premises". The fee wasn't the issue at all I just have never heard of a fee when I have had access to all gyms throughout Oklahoma and Texas!!! None of y'all even attempted to say "well let's see your contract or membership" not to mention I was able to workout on Monday! Service was unprofessional!!! Not the best gym, but in Abilene you don't really have options. Massive cardio section, tiny weightlifting section. There aren't even real barbells at the gym. I travel quite a bit and stop at Planet Fitness locations in almost every city. I'll start with the pros of this particular PF: * plenty of parking * seemingly safe area * friendly staff * regular PF accommodations for Black card members (tanning, massage chairs/water table) * clean and SPACIOUS restrooms/showers Cons: * floor is bubbling up near the free weights. * the assisted-pull Up machine tilts when disembarking. I'm a petite female. This is no bueno. * I don't recall seeing a weight scale in the lady's room. That's a PF first. Anyhow, it's the only PF location for hours. I'd come back. read more

I travel for work so I have been to many planet fitness gyms all over. This one is by far one of my favorites! Everything is so spaced out nicely on their correct sections and you don't feel on top of other people. Also has a huge fan above that keeps it nice and cool! Love the additional back rooms for some privacy. And also very clean. Could use a couple more stair steppers but other than that it's very nice! read more

Was visiting parents for a wk and since they are members, I go there to get my work out. In my opinion this gym is very clean and well kept compare to some of the more expensive ones that I go to in Colorado. Their stuff is great too. Specially Tristen, she is very helpful and friendly. I love this gym! It's clean, and there are so many machines to choose from! The free weight area is in close proximity to the machines as well so if you need to do a superset with both it's much more convenient! The staff are all really friendly and the availability of free massage chairs is a nice perk if you pay the $20/month fee because if you have an intense back day it's so much easier than foam rolling your back and risking injury! Anyway I highly recommend this gym, I was skeptical about the area at first and the price but honestly the other gym members are respectful and pretty much everyone works together to keep the gym clean and disinfected by wiping down the equipment after use. read more

This is the biggest, cleanest gym in Abilene, but they are crazy unorganized. I signed up online because I had a great experience with Planet Fitness in Lubbock, but these guys are kind of a mess. I got one a treadmill that sounded like grinding gears in a standard transmission mixed with a hamster on a wheel and there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. If you plan on using the spa, prepare to just literally stand there and babysit because they have no system in place for getting people in the rooms. If you're standing there, it's your turn, regardless of who signed up on the "waiting list" before you. If you need anything that requires a computer, maybe just think about how bad you really need it... everyone is very friendly, just painfully inefficient. I did their waitlist and asked "how do i know when it's my turn, and the guy looked at me like "good question!" I should have known.... anyway, I waited almost an hour for a specific "spa" thing (i was told it would be 20 minutes) only to discover their ACTUAL system is just "whoever is standing here staring at me is next" and I just can't even right now. Seriously? Why have a damn wait list?? Chuckleheads. I mean, for $20 a month, you get what you pay for I guess, but if I'd have known most of the features I wanted were fake waitlisted I would have gone for the $10 one...or just gone to another gym. I was hesitant to join a Planet Fitness because I heard all the stigma on it, but it's the largest gym in the area convenient to me. I joined easily a year ago and have enjoyed it. Literally everytime I am there, an employee is deep cleaning equipment and the bathroom which is very reassuring. Staff is always helpful and cleaning things. They're not super crazy like other Planet Fitness's and you can act normally with the weights and what you wear like real gyms. You can tell there is competent management, it is apparent anywhere you look and they are constantly updating equipment. read more

Other than the employees using the handicapped paking spot for personal use, which is damnable by me, this place is not too bad. The machines and facility are clean/well maintained and the dressing rooms allow privacy if needed. So, If you can manage to drag yourself to the gym and do a full bodied workout while being patronized by the improportionately impudent staff then this is the place for you. Anyone that does more that 2 seconds of research in to gyms knows that planet fitness (with their candy and pizza and bagels) is more of a paticipation-trophy disco than a real gym. That being said if you are one of the few people (like my friend and I) that use this gym because we're broke and really want to get in some sembalence of shape, we dont appreciate it when the people in charge of this facility do not appreciate feedback and feel that they are doing enough of the Lord's work by bringing themselves to speak to the 'type of people' who attend this gym. read more

UPDATE from a 2 to 4: After receiving a surprising phone call from the management, I feel that although I felt like I had to butt heads to be initially heard - they were considerate enough to make the time to contact me by phone instead of email and such. It was nice talking to a person to listen to my concerns and hearing them state their interest in the situation. _____ As a member since 2013 - this is the first time as a member that Planet Fitness remodeled their gym. The remodeling "conveniently" started after their annual membership fee was collected at the first of June. Maybe I'm a bit old school, but a letter to your members whether through the mail or e-mail to forewarn June and July's upcoming events of construction would have probably eased this member to what she was walking into in the grand scheme of things. As a Black Card Membership - it's pretty neat - you get Reciprocal use of all PF Franchise Locations, Unlimited guest privileges at any PF location, Use of Tanning, Unlimited use of Massage Chairs, Unlimited Hydromassage for $20 a month ... of course, it isn't awesome to find out those tanning beds and massage device benefits that "you pay extra" for each month hasn't been available for use since the middle of June. Moreover - you find out that gym will be CLOSED starting today until July 3rd. During those days, you have no access to the gym yet "you are still paying" for those days you cannot use. I, of course, asked at the desk if there will be some sort of partial reimbursement for this inconvenience. One of the staff members said that MANY members have asked the same question. The desk staff said that "There will be no partial reimbursement of any kind. That corporate in the office did not allow it." Then she asked if I wanted to speak to the manager, I said "Why not?" I stood right behind her as she spoke to the manager, he glanced at me and continued talking to the staff member. There she turned around to repeat what she said earlier and the manager just walked past me as he continued his conversation with the trainer. All I can tell you the manager was a Tall guy, brown skin, and black hair [I would have gotten his nametag, but he walked too fast past me]. So I am torn, up until now I had no problems with PF. Surely I'm not the only one these past few weeks. I can only think if we all share similar experiences maybe some good will come to it. If anything maybe they will start with sending a letter addressing any issues that may inconvenience it's paying members. read more

The staff is always friendly and available to help. Weight area gets pretty crowded at times, but if you're into cardio there's plenty of equipment like treadmills and ellipticals. The facility is kept very clean. At least one staff member is always on the floor cleaning. I like the "extras" like the tanning beds and hydro massage. read more

This place is an absolute joke. The "trainers" are in worse shape than the people they are training. I've been here for about 5 months and plan on canceling, which I'm told is a long process. The staff are extremely rude except for one person. When I first signed up i didn't even get a tour or a shirt. I had to ask. I wanted to give this gym a chance, but if you actually can lift free weights, I wouldn't go here. They judge the hell out of you for being in shape. For 10 dollars a month, it's not bad. For 20 a month you get free use of massage chairs, hydro massage, and all the tanning you want. The price is right, but some of the stuff going on here blows my mind... not in a good way. You get what you pay for here. One monday a month they have free pizza, sounds nice. Too bad i am going to the gym to work out, burn calories, and add some muscle. I don't like how the pizza scent smells up the area around the cardio/weight machines. I don't go to the gym to watch a certain type of people scarf down pizza after walking for 10 minutes then have to listen to them complain about being fat in the locker room. They also have candy all over the front desk. Why not have something like fruit leather, or apple slices, or even little yogurt to go pouches? All of those are far superior options to a fatty slab of pizza and handfulls of candy. They also have bagels in the morning. So apparently Planet Fitness is a bed and breakfast as well as a 24 hr gym. Cardio Machines-They have a lot, and a decent variety. On peak hours you are limited to 30 minutes. It's not really monitored, so if you need to get in the 60min cardio, you are fine so long as nobody is waiting. Free Weights- wasn't impressed with the selection of dumbells, and plates. They don't have the "in between" weight ranges. I couldnt find any kettle bells and this made me sad. Good enough to get a workout, but not good enough for extreme and varied training Machines-they have a decent selection of machines here and many are in pairs, so you "normally" won't have to wait to use a machine. Lockers/Showers- It's clean, bring a little lock. Tanning beds- i don tthink the bulbs are very strong, but it's free so who cares. Massage chairs- gross me out hydromassage- apparently works well, though i havent treid it yet, seems clean. employees- all young kids it seems, but pretty nice...can get confused easily clients- many people here are first time gym goers and don't know any "gym etiquette" yet. It's not a workout killer, but it sucks when you see someone sit 3 minutes at a machine you need and refuse to move when you ask them to rotate in. read more

The equipment is nice here, but don't even attempt the circuit training room. People go in there and just camp out on a machine, they are very rude, they do not move with the circuit. Even though the same exact machines are in other places of they gym, they choose to use the circuit room equipment. I've told them at the front desk a couple of times, they totally do not care. They won't even post a sign in the circuit room that this room is for those working on all 20 stations in a row, there is equipment elsewhere they could use. So I've just about given up on using that feature, which is what really attracted me to this gym in the first place. read more

The worst experience I've ever had at a gym!! Not one of the staff members showed any interest in the fact that I was looking to become a new member. Instead they pointed me to have a seat and wait to be given a tour. I had to request for any information on the different memberships and seemed to bother them by my questions about the memberships and about the gym. The staff were all "too busy". There were maybe 10 people in the gym at the time. I sat in the "waiting for a tour area" for 15-20 mins, watching the people go in and come out of the tanning beds. Then I gave myself a tour and left, never having been spoken to again. Very frustrated!! If the staff are uninterested in helping you become a member to this gym, do they really care about you working out there or meeting your goals?? Disappointed to say the least!! read more

I workout at Planet Fitness several times a week and the facility is clean and organized and today the staff went out of their way to help me. I lost my pedometer and called to let them know. They took time to look for it and call me back twice trying to make sure they searched in the areas where I had worked out and knew for sure what the pedometer looked like.
