I've lived in this neighborhood for decades and remember when this space was Acme, so I've been here for a while. The biggest disappointment is lack of diversity on the staff. Even the new hires is only diverse in age but still look the same. The staff does not reflect the patrons or neighborhood and it's hard to believe that they can't hire from more than 1 nonwhite staff person. Representation matters especially for a chain business in an urban neighborhood. Do better with your hiring practicing and make more of an effort to bring in other demographics onto the team. The team is friendly and I enjoy visiting the facility but I would also enjoy seeing more diverse staff that best represents the diversity of your patrons. read more

I am above-knee amputee confined to wheelchair. Decided to try free pass today; ist thing Staff here is Awesome friendly & helpful. 2nd the bathroom was super clean and huge for wheelchair. The bad I could only safely use 2 machines in the entire place. I am 6' 240lbs and regularly lift my body weight+ But it was impossible for me to transfer from wheelchair to any of the machines due to nowhere on machines to grab hold of. I did get on ab and triceps machines but almost fell on both. They were able to take off the seat for the hand elipticle machine and I could use the rope cable machine but thats it. Moved away from my old gym that over half the machines had multiple places welded/or built onto them from manufacture to grab onto. Not "planet"? fitness. Perhaps if we have some more 10+ year wars and more GI Joes come back gimped more businesses might tap into their profits to accomadate us??? Just writing this so others in wheelchairs don't have to waste their time trying here. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. Most of the staff is very unprofessional. AWFUL customer service. CONSTSANTLY forgetting to turn on the tanning bed after I'm already undressed. They charged me two late fees saying my payment couldn't be processed even though it's the same checking account I've had for 10 years and the only one attached to this membership and there is no reason on my bank's end that the money wasn't taken out. But mostly PLANET FITNESS IS A SCAM. ANY business that makes you jump through hoops to cancel your membership/account is a scam. So, I had to go there (I don't live close to one anymore) and pay them $86 including $30 of late fees EVEN THOUGH the employee literally just refused to tell me why I was being charged late fees when I clearly showed him my account information was accurate. I only used planet fitness for tanning and I haven't been in well over 6 months and they couldn't be bothered to refund me $30 in late fees. Absolutely *bad word* ing ridiculous. Staff are unprofessional. tanning beds "malfunction" or the staff set the timer for the wrong time and burn you.

Nothing against PF but I truly thought they were closed due to COVID I never really go Hawkins Plaza for anything except PF. I've been to many Planet Fitness locations, but this one seems to be annoyingly strict with dumb rules. Every time I come to this location, I am apparently doing something wrong. Today an employee came over to tell me I wasn't allowed to have my sweatshirt on the machine I was using. I took it off because I got hot during my training. So I had to put it back on and stayed comfortably hot while there. This is nonsense. Whoever is making these rules is on a serious power trip. Loosen up geez!!! read more

I was banned from the facility after only TWO days of membership because another member accused me of telling her she didn't look feminine enough to be in the locker room. WHAT?!! Who does that?! When I tried to explain to the manager that I DID NOT say that she wouldn't even listen, and said the decision was final. When I asked if the so-called witnesses actually "heard me" say it, the manager said she couldn't talk about it. HUH??! There was absolutely no recourse and no protocol of fairness in handling this situation. In this day and age I can understand zero tolerance, but even with that the accused should be allowed to defend themselves. I asked who her boss was and she said she made the ultimate decision and it stopped with her. In other words, anybody can be accused by another member and be banned from the facility just on that person's say. I don't even want to go back to PF. But I would like to see revisions on how issues are handled to include fairness to both parties. Accusations should be in writing by all involved, and then reviewed. The manager should not be the only one making the final decision, especially when its one-sided. I'm home for thanksgiving break and visited this PF. I wore gym-shark leggings with a tank top and got dress coded. I had been in the gym for an hour already but got stopped durning the end of my workout on the stair master and was told to "cover up" and if I didn't have anything to cover up with they would provide me with something to put around my waist. Im not sure what else they expect women to wear as I was fully clothed. Men were wearing cut out muscle shirts and were not told to cover up. Long story short at some Planet fitness stores they allow you to pay cash. I went to the gym Tuesday night and checked in. I verified that my account was up to date and asked if I could work out. The guy told me my payment had came out Saturday the 17th. and everything was good. I said are you sure because I can pay now I have money on my debit card. He said nope you are good I can't let you pay now because that would be a double payment. So I worked out and left. Fast forward to the next day I was going to work out in Cleveland but my boyfriend was off a few hours after me and the black card allows you to work out at any Planet fitness in any state. So to kill time while i waited for him I packed my stuff and drove to Akron Ohio from Cleveland. I pulled up to the gym and tried to check in. The lady was really snotty too. She said I can't let you check in because your payment is 2 days late and didn't come out. I said wtf normally my payments come out on the 15- and finalize by the 17th. She said I can't even let you check in, but if you have another form of payment I can let you pay and check in. So I got on the phone to call the other Akron gym and the guy told me that this planet fitness had it wrong. Even if I had money on my card that they only allow you to pay at your home gym (which is Cleveland). So I would have to go back to Cleveland and pay there to workout in Akron. I told him how I was told my card had processed and he said he couldn't see on his end so I would have to go to Cleveland to fix any issues. So imagine if I had left and went to reload my prepaid debit card only to find out that I wouldn't even be able to pay there?!! They didn't accept cash so I would've had to drive to reload just to drive back, pay and work out. So many mixed responses. The Cleveland pf. Gyms are awesome. I have zero issues. This is the worst planet fitness I have ever been to. While the facility is relatively clean, the staff provides a very negative experience to their members. I can't say every one of them but management in general practices and speaks to members very unethically. Multiple members have had issues with staff and it's actually pretty sad. We pay and go to the gym to stay healthy and get release from life. Just being at that gym in general is more stress than anyone deserves. I tried to make my complaints to the corporate office in hopes to avoid altercation but that did not work. This company is all about money and not the moral or ethical satisfaction of their consumers. Avoid the Hawkins Plaza location of planet fitness if you can get any means. Save yourself the time and money and choose another PF location, IF ANY. P.S. The general manager at this location is the worst. If you can an issue don't even bother bringing it to her attention, just leave and call corporate. TRUST ME read more

Avoid this gym at all costs. Not only is it in a terrible neighborhood with a parking lot filled with potholes but mgmt leaves a lot to be desired as well. I called because they failed to take me monthly membership out on time and didn't want to be charged a late fee. I get told it's still pending and if you did get a late fee callback and we'll refund it. A few days later I get a PF text saying the payment didn't go through. Call my bank, no attempt was made before the "late" payment was processed and they verified there's 2k in the account. Call PF and they give me a run around and say I need to come in to get the refund even though everything is on file. I tell them I'm covid positive and they say I still have to come in person to get a refund. I came in twice 2 weeks later and was told i have to come back when a manager is in bc they can't do refunds. Both times I was told the manager would be in they weren't and I never got the refund. Hand sanitizer is usually empty and you have to beg for towels and disinfectant when they run out at night. read more

One of the smaller planet fitness' I've been to. Clean environment bathroom could use mid-day clean before night shift. Only main problem I've had here was with billing. Great staff. Always a ghost town at night, which is the best! The PF near me is not open 24/7, so this is my gym of choice.

I wanted to give this location no stars. I've been going for the past month every Sunday I do different things and 2 different machines that are only in the 30 min room. I went today on my lunch break which I only had 25 mins to try & get a quick workout in so I decided to utilize the 30 min room there was no one in this room I was confronted by management Kayla she told me I couldn't use the room unless I did the entire circulation workout. I advised I only have 20 mins and I come here every Sunday and only use certain machines in here and that I've never seen anyone in here use every thing people pick and choose which machines they use. She was rude nasty and to be honest I feel she was being racists because I'm an African American. She told me because you refused to follow the rules I'm going to terminate your membership I advised okay if that makes you feel better about yourself that's fine as I've been coming here every Sunday for the last month and no one has said that I have to use every machine in here and besides I've never seen anyone in here doing everything, and that I go to other locations and I've never been told thst you have to use every machine. I dec to leave and as I was leaving Kayle proceeds to tell me she can't terminate my membership but she was terminating my access to that location. Now I would understand this more if they were busy and others were in there but there wasn't one other person in that room I wasn't bothering anyone she made it a point to bother the only African American there. I want to know where in the policy does it say a member has to use every machine in the 30 minute room. I could have some physical limitations were I can't use every machine. When I asked for upper management information I was given the run around on who I could submit a formal complaint to. Even if she hadn't limited my access to this location I wouldn't go back. read more
