The new pool has a state of the art ventilation system, keeping the pool warm and the air clean of excess humidity and chlorine smell. The gym features 2 basketball courts and the men's locker room has a steam room. The locker room is very large and there are still plenty of lockers available to rent -- or you can use one for the day. Upstairs, the open concept cardio floor overlooks river. I like to ride the exercise bikes and they have 3 styles of bikes to choose from. All cardio machines have built in TVs, so bring your head phones. There are many new members, but machines always seem to be available. I have been using the ACTIVTRAX system for about 3 months now and it gives a good variety to your workout and automatically adults your weights and reps to optimize your fitness goals. The desk top version of ACTIVTRAX has extensive capabilities to track your diet, heart rate, blood pressure and of course your workouts. It really works well for me as I just pull it up on my cell phone as I walk into the Y and it gives me a new workout from warmup to cool down. The Y offers many different classes on a varying schedule and I suggest you get the app for your phone to keep up with the schedule. I have only taken the 1 hour spin class and it was a butt kicker. There are plenty of personal trainers and staff around to help and they are always friendly and helpful. I get a friendly greeting when I come in from the front desk and an cheerful goodbye each time I leave. The hospital has a physical therapy space on the left as you enter the Y and I have no experience with it. After a workout, I like to go the Venture Cafe downstairs and get a protein shake or a coffee. I really like their punch card coffee system. I can by 10 cups and get one free (or something like that). I pay up front, they keep the card form me and I don't have to worry about carrying money or anything in with me as I go to work out.

There were a couple of bridges across the river. Some rocky waters make for interesting viewing. Upon stepping off the path to a sandy shore, I was greeted by a snake that I could not immediately identify but which thankfully decided to leave on its own. Having driven through the Danville area once before and missed the riverfront, I wish I'd had the chance to pull over for a bit. It's not quite as impressive as Richmond's waterfront, but it's a nice area.
