First I see the PF replier on Yelp instructing to contact manager directly to all bad reviews. NO. I'm reporting problems here. If you see the Yelp bad reviews then you pass it on to the manager. Now to the complaint - the parking lot lights are off at night. Totally unsafe and I'll be reporting this to the city officials. Also no one seems to clean men's shower areas where one places shampoo. Next, I find shower curtains moved to the side. This seems to cause winged pests. People also blow snot in showers yet curtains appear rarely washed. Disgusting. Drainage areas outside of showers appear wobbly trip hazard. Lastly why no slip resistant mats outside the showers? This place needs someone like John Taffer or Gordon Ramsey (for gyms) to tell these managers how to stop these problems. read more

I joined after a gym I belonged to closed. It was easy to sign up online. The staff were not very helpful. I asked questions about to set up and use the weight machines properly and the staff did not know. They are lacking trainers. They advertise free training but are unable to provide that service. The showers need better cleaning. I have never seen any employee cleaning any of the equipment. I saw one employee watching videos on his tablet. read more

Beware! Insects in the showers! I have been asking the staff at this location to clean the showers for months. There are little shower flies clinging to the shower curtains that fly around while you shower. It is really gross. I canceled my membership due to this disgusting fact. read more

I first gave planet fitness in Helena a good review, but 7 years later, I don't. Im not sure if it's because of a top level business behavior that has gotten more shady & greedy over time & affects all PF locations. A system where once again, 'the little guy' seems to get just lost in the system & increasingly taken advantage of by a mega corporate business. Or maybe it's more regionally decided somewhat. It starts at the top. If it's broken or corrupt at that level, it will filter down over time where it eventually won't work in the long term & needs an overhaul. Im most frustrated about certain corporate practices & a system that PF has in many locations across all the states. The 2 topics addressed here are: 1) The way the music is handled & 2) How your account is ultimately handled at the corporate level. PF is a good concept for having the cheaper option & still have a good selection of equipment that generally works and is decent for what you pay for. There's evidence to suggest the corporate practices of this company are deceitful & take advantage of both staff & customers. Varying by location, corporate generally only allows the same canned music to be played at their locations where generally no one has a say in or are allowed to have other options or variety from customers & employees. There is/was RockBot, but it seems some locations don't use it or stopped using it as an option for customers to have their own music choices played. The Helena MT one apparently doesn't now. Instead, we get this intrusive, sterile, souless, and dumbing-down-of- the-masses kind of vapid annoying stuff appealing to one type of person. It's also often way too loud, even when one has headphones. A system where supposedly none of the staff, even management, can do much about. Mostly only controlled by corporate, apparently these days. About a year 1/2 ago, in 2022, I was going to work outside the state for 5-6 months & was told my account could be on hold the whole time. Before i left, I asked to have my account put on hold (frozen). Even though i was initially told wrong information (though i didnt know at the time) by the employee back in April 2022 who said I wouldn't be charged for the entire time i was gone, i still was charged for all the months, including the up to 3 months you could have your account frozen & not be charged the monthly $10. i only found out the true information when I got back to helena on Oct 2022 & went in person to initially check on this. I knew 3 months of that then was legitimately charged, but not for the other 3 months. So i spoke of this in detail to management who were very helpful then (2022 to early 2023). It was agreed by them that i was unfairly charged and should get back $30 for those 3 months. Corporate ended up never honoring this when I kept calling about the status of this over the ensuing months & year. I was told by management that corporate would refund the money but would take a few months, even a year, and it would either be applied to my bank account or sent to me. Niether happened. After some time, the management & staff i corresponded with on this issue had left. Very high turnover here & so it makes ongoing account issues almost impossible to complete & get rightly resolved! So corporate, once again, gets away with taking advantage of people. And what's with their paying method of not doing a membership by either debit or credit card and only through access to the customer's bank account where PF has access to the customers' sensitive banking information?? Helena MT 's does this. I guess some locations do this & some don't. If there's a problem customers are sent a vague, unhelpful text saying " there's a problem with your account."Then, after all the time it takes when investigating through one's bank & with PF to find out what's really going on, you just get the late fee anyway. The policy using customers' direct banking info (ie checking account & routing numbers) is not a good method! Handling customers accounts SHOULD NOT be done mainly done through frontdesk workers where there even more turnover creating a situation where most of them often dont know enough to tell people accurate or complete information or can really help and it ends up going through several of them who aren't on the same page with a customer's case. More room for error & time lost. PF has too much control & ability to yet again take advantage of customers this way. Customers trying to cancel their membership is a whole other ordeal. This from a system that is basically greedy & has generally poor customer service. Not an honest, straightforward company, i.e., especially the ones who make the rules. Nothing to indicate any of the above will change for the better, even with all the feedback from employees & customers and complaints to the BBB. The staff is super unhelpful. Expect less than zero from these people. Like literal negative effort. This isn't as big of a deal as the staff issue, but a lot of the equipment is worn out, damaged, and/or badly maintained. It's just not good gym, in spite of the convenient location and ability to use other locations while traveling. This should literally be no one's "home" gym location. Would not recommend. This gym is smelly and the women's bathroom and showers are filthy. They also advertise that you and your guest have full access to the gym, false. Guest have no access to the massage and tanning bed areas. Management is horrible, kids who don't even look like they finished college yet. Also, if you cancel your membership long before your contract is up they still charge you and if you use any of their other gyms you're only allowed 10 visits. Incompetent and fraudulent. read more

There is no customer service, the people up front couldn't care less, they don't know there job, the place is dirty, the perks you get for upgrading your membership are worthless. At several other locations while traveling for work, Planet Fitness has always felt really welcoming and positive. I actually visited this one in Helena on my way out to Seattle and enjoyed it so much that we drove three hours out of the way to stop back here again. This time though, there was a different woman at the desk named Laura, who felt so uncomfortable that I almost left while trying to check in. When I scanned my membership, she looked me up and down a few times, asking to see my ID. I've never been asked this at other PF locations while traveling, and don't bring a purse into a gym haha.. but ok, no problem. I called my boyfriend, who had to drive back to show my ID. Meanwhile the uncomfortable energy builds somehow, and by the time my partner comes in, he didn't even want to walk up to her. Probably wouldn't have posted a review because maybe the rudeness was just from her having a rough day, but she got more intense. She was upset about needing to "file a complaint now" because I'd said things felt a little rude. I shared that I didn't want to file a complaint or anything, but she said it had to be done now. Hmm... ok. A while later, she called me back up, saying she needed to scan my membership again. Wasn't sure why she needed it but shared and still tried to see if I could brighten or shift her mood. Haha nope. On the way out, we asked if we could see the complaint she'd filed for me, but she said no. I said that felt odd, given she said she'd written it on my behalf. So she finally was straight up and said she'd written a complaint I guess to defend herself in case I contacted corporate offices. Woah, not sure how much complaints have possibly been made with her to bring that up, but as someone just hoping to enjoy their gym experience, it honestly wasn't worth all the heavy energy and intensity. Ironic that now I am leaving a complaint, partly to remember not to go back here but also to help you all out, as it intuitively feels to me from this that it's a recurring issue. I travel across the country for work every 3 months and i have to say ive never been to a gym quite like this. Walked in first time to talk to front desk regarding short term membership options. They just handed me a sheet of paper with no interest in explaining what any of the options included. I asked if someone could just show me around and the two behind the desk were going back n forth as to who would do it...both reluctant. Definitely felt neither wanted to take the 3 minutes just to show me around so i could see for myself what the gym offers or looks like. The staff is friendly, and so is everyone who is a member. If I have an issue with cleanliness or anything they are quick to fix the issue. I do think more attention to the bathrooms could be addressed, but I also think that the members need to take pride and clean up after themselves. Dont leave your hair in the drain, take your garbage, just plain old common sense. For the price you can't beat it. read more

Just signed up here. The process was super simple, the staff was friendly and helpful and the facilities were clean. Can't beat the price at $23/mo which includes the use of the hydromassage, massage chairs, tanning, and red light therapy. Appears to be plenty of equipment, however I have not been here during peak hours yet. Plenty of parking and an easy location to access just off the interstate exit. read more

They have a giant sign on the wall that says that everyone is accepted and respected here. I doubt any of the management has ever looked up at that sign. I definitely did not feel respected there. Unlike a lot of other Planet Fitness locations, this one's not a 24 hour gym. I came from a much smaller club and a much smaller town that managed to keep the gym open 24 hours 7 days a week. So I know it can be done. My issue is not with the brand - just this location. Unlike my former Club they do not have a family change room. This makes using the gym a lot harder for me and adds to the feeling of not being welcome there. This is a less important issue than the unwelcoming environment and staff attitude; however, the equipment here is not sized very well for people who are shorter in stature. Again, this is unique tho this location, not all Planet Fitness. I miss my old club a lot. I always felt welcome there and accepted, even after midnight on Fridays. read more

I did contact.  They threatened to call the police.  Great customer service. Advice to anyone at Planet Fitness.  Use a prepaid card to sign up.  Then pay in cash monthly.  Don't give them your real card number.  If you have given them your real card number call it in stolen so a new numbered card will be sent to you.  Make sure the CC company is instructed to cancel ANY pre authorized, recurring payments in the future that were authorized on the old number.  You can reauthorize other regular payments to your other vendors easier than getting your money back from PF read more

Our experience with this gym was it was clean and meet our needs. Two weeks ago my Wife forgot her mask while going to workout. Having seen a sign the previous day, that said "forget your mask, no problem, we have one for you at the desk" she went to the desk to ask for one. The front desk, clerk gave her a hard time about not having one, and was condescending to her. He never offered one, just shamed her for not having one. When she asked about the sign, he said he could give her one, just this once, but he would have to annotate her account. After running, she was still upset about the encounter and asked to speak to the manager. A young man addressed her as the manager. After explaining what had happened to her, he began reiterating the mask policy again to her. She explained it was not the policy she had issue with, it was the way she was treated. He again reiterated the policy. She explained that she had no problem with the policy, it was the way she was treated. My Wife told him she would not be asking for another mask, to which the manager replied, "or you could just bring your own mask" in a patronizing tone. Needless to say, we are both no longer members at this gym. When I went in to cancel the membership, the same front desk clerk processed the cancelation. The cancelation paperwork was emailed to me. The reason for leaving was annotated as "Not enough time". I sent the local gym and Planet Fitness corporate an email about the issue. Neither the local or corporate has responded to me after two weeks. Being you get what you pay for and this is the cheapest gym in town, perhaps they should charge a bit more and put the money towards better mannered employees and additional management training. read more

I just attempted to have a membership cancelled for my minor and have been trying to do this for 2 weeks now. There is never a manager on the weekends Apparently Planet Fitness is in a "transitional change" so they cannot help their customers. I find that ironic as I would think the weekends would be busy. And Conveniently you can't do this over the phone you have to be in person to sign documents. Of course they allow minors to sign up without parent permission. When I went in to cancel this membership the 1st time I was told I have to sign the waiver in order to cancel the membership. That resulted in my minor daughter getting the fee deducted from her account and I STILL could not have it cancelled, they said they would leave a note for the manager. I think this is an example of a terrible process and today when I went in the girl the front desk had the worst customer service I have ever received in my life. I am in the customer service business so I feel I can make an accurate assessment of that. They need to train their young counter attendants to be professional and not defensive and rude. I would never get a membership here for that very reason. Helena is a small town with lots of fitness options, Iwill be sure and share my opinion with everybody I run into. I have been going to the Helena Planet Fitness for about a year now without any issues. However, I had an extremely unpleasant experience with their new manager after he approached me in the middle of my workout to tell me my sports bra was not appropriate workout attire and I needed to put a shirt on. He said it is a "new policy". However, there are rules that I signed when I became a member agreeing to wear "appropriate workout attire", and I have received ZERO notifications of any policy changes (no paper notices posted on doors or locker rooms, emails sent to members, NOTHING). I guess I don't understand what is "inappropriate" about wearing a sports bra & leggings to the gym. Being as I have been going here for over a year and wear a sports bra to work out every time without any previous issues, I am obviously not impressed with this new manager. Planet Fitness is supposed to be considered "judgment free" so I think it is inappropriate to have dress code at the "judgement of management." Especially when the policy also explicitly states "no string tank tops" and women are wearing them all the time. That is very clear and not left to subjective interpretation but yet he chooses to enforce some made up policy instead? Perhaps the manager should also learn that coming up to people on the gym floor and calling them out is not the most professional or appropriate way to address sudden policy changes, either. I am disappointed because I love the convenience and amenities of this gym, and I travel often and love the option of going to PF locations across the country. However, I have invested hundreds of dollars in my workout attire and will continue to work out in what I feel comfortable in. While Planet Fitness is the cheapest gym in town, I guess you get what you pay for, and I personally would rather pay a few more dollars for judgement-free comfort and friendly customer service. read more
