It's a very nice and clean gym. Soon machines will upgrade which is awesome. Use it often which makes it worth the money.

Very conflicting views of the club. The staff, headed by either Patrick or Brendan? provide wonderful service to the facilities equipment. the members are very lax. for instance - 10:45 am and these two guys on the stair master are screaming to each other amidst the din of barbells dropping and thumping music which alerts my iPhone to the dangerous decibels reached in my ears, even with earbuds. I politely asked them to possibly soften their voices because I was 12 ft. away from them and could only hear their shouting. They snickered and said they would use their indoor voices. I thanked them for being gentlemen. Too soon, I guess. I moved further away to a different section of the gym and they are still ever present. Mgmt does nothing about this even when I ask. And now they are off to the next spot of chaos without cleaning their equipment. Guess I'll offer to clean both machines just to clear my mind of their presence. Really sick of the cultural group "Unawareness" that is so prevalent here. Mgmt? Where are you to restore the peace? read more

I come with my two teenagers and love this gym. The price is AMAZING, no real lines for equipment, the showers/equipment/tanning beds are clean, people have been friendly, staff always smile and make it a point to say hello and goodbye. I use a fitness app to create my workouts and after 3 months, I've lost 2 dress sizes and 10 pounds; all at this gym! Woohoo!! read more

The amount of high school kids, mostly from Hull, who are so disrespectful and rude is amazing. The place if always filled with little punks who gather all of the freeweights then sit on their phones and take up half of the gym. They are obnoxious and loud and rude. I am baffled the management let's them chase each other around taking each others' hats and acting like children. It's a joke. read more

If you're a bodybuilder or an Olympic weightlifter, then this place isn't for you. But if you're anyone else (i.e. 99.99% of the population), then this is actually a really nice gym, especially for the price. I've been to several different Planet Fitness locations, and they always seemed kind of dirty. I'm not sure if it's because purple isn't my bag, but I found these gyms to be depressing. But this location is different. Planet Fitness Hingham is bright and clean. It's got a ton of of cardio machines. The only significant cardio machine they don't have is an ergometer (i.e. rowing machine). There is a Nautilus-type circuit of weight machines in the middle, a line of Smith machines next to them, and racks of dumbbells on the far wall. They have three multiexercise machines for things like seated rows and lat pulldowns, and a couple of assisted dip/pullup machines. In the back area, they have a solid fitness/stretching area. It is big enough to do shuttle runs? No. But it's large enough for a bunch of people to stretch and use their jungle gym. The only negative is the battle rope. This is one of the greatest pieces of gym equipment ever, but they only have what looks like a 30-foot rope. I'm used to using a 2"-thick 50-foot battle rope, and the difference between that one and the 30-foot one that this Planet Fitness has is enormous. I understand that the 30-foot rope fits more easily into the back room area, but in terms of bang for the buck, a 50-foot rope is the way to go. In terms of stretching machines, it would be great if they had a Precor StretchTrainer. Also, the stretching rack they have in the corner is okay, but the weird thing is that the base (i.e. where you stand) is angled to form a V. It's bizarre and I don't understand why the base isn't flat. The medicine balls come in various sizes, but one problem with them is that the rubber nubby things wear off which leaves the balls slick. That's what's happened here. And if you're all sweaty from your workout, then you're left handling sweaty balls, which might be fine in some situations but not in a gym. I'm not sure about the Wi-fi because I don't go to the gym to surf the Internet. I go to work out. The parking lot is huge and free. As for bagels and pizza, I don't go there for a positive-calorie visit (i.e. I leave with more calories than I walked in with), but there are people who want to maximize their memberships in any way possible, so it's an option to grab some free meals there. They have two massage beds and two massage chairs. All of them are good, but they're only for members who get the more expensive membership. The front desk staff has always been nice to me, and they keep the place clean. And that's a pretty major accomplishments considering how many people go to this location. If you don't use Battle Ropes and you don't lift free weights, then this place is easily 5 stars, especially for the money you're paying for the monthly fee. read more

I like this PF for location and the value it provides. However, what really, really, really sucks is their wifi. It is sooooo annoying work out here that it ruins my work out. You can't get access to Pandora for more than two songs before it closes you out, even with full bars for signal. It is so frustrating to be running and then your music shuts off and you have to stop and reload your music player instead of Pandora because of unreliable wifi. It doesn't matter how many people are in the building....I've been in there when it is almost empty and this happens. The staff has to reset the wifi often and gets frustrated too. I don't know why the owners won't invest $60 to get a booster or replace the router with one that works. We don't need the massage chairs, get the wifi working! And they should provide it because the building doesn't allow any cellular signal in so I can't stream. I would give this a 4 rating if not for the frustration with the wifi. It has been going on for a a few years. Complaining to them does NOTHING so I'm hoping this will be a stronger statement to the owners. I am thinking I need to bring my own router or booster where I can set for private access. Having music makes a difference in a workout and PF makes it very difficult to access it for my online playlists. The other really annoying thing is you can't use a credit card for payment, only a check, which makes me very uncomfortable and I think is unfair to the customer in terms of not having an option. It's much better to have credit card payment because it allows for me to manage finances better and track expenses, which you can't do with a checking account in the same way (unless doing manually which is a hassle). PF, PLEASE improve your wifi. It's not that expensive and will go a long way to making for a better workout experience at your facility. I don't have this problem with any of the other PF I have worked out at (e.g. Dorchester, Weymouth, etc.) read more

Planet fitness is an interesting organization. For a ridiculously low price you can have a membership that allows you to utilize their gyms at any time for as long as you want. The problem is that they don't have any of the equipment that I want in order to conduct a high intensity workout. The only barbells they have for instance are the ones attached to the smith machines so I am unable to conduct any olympic lifts or deadlifts. There's what seems like 100 cardio machines, but the area for bodyweight exercises can barely handle 3 people attempting to do pushups, air squats, etc. at the same time (and there's usually several people utilizing the area for stretching and/or yoga) The real reason for the 2 star review was my experience with the staff. Apparently they have been trained by the owner to tell people that they absolutely have to be on an EFT (electronic funds transfer) from their bank. This didn't seem to be a problem when I originally signed up (quite a while ago, right around when they first opened). I was harassed every time I came into the gym to provide a blank check. I indicated that I did not want to pay by check and that my debit card was never declined and if there was ever to be an issue I would be responsible for any fees incurred. I was eventually approached by what I presume was a manager (a blonde-haired woman whose name I don't recall) and she told me that I signed an agreement indicating that I had to use EFT. I said I signed no such thing. She became furious and flustered with the net result being that I did not have to use the EFT. I no longer felt welcome at the gym and for several months I simply didn't show up. Eventually I canceled. If you're really interested in health/fitness you'd be 1000 times better off going next door to CrossFit Bare Cove or even better - head across town to CrossFit Hingham. read more

I have been a member of this gym for two years now. Pros: Clean Friendly\Helpful Staff Convenient location Plenty of machines Price Cons: WIFI is horrible Parking can be a challenge on busy days This is a great gym for my needs. Being over 50 and not looking to become a muscle bound goon this is a great place to keep fit and to work off a few pounds. The staff has always been helpful and courteous. The place is always clean. My only real complaint is the Wifi. I like many others like to work out to music and the wifi cuts out if there are more than 20-30 people or if you go into the back area of the facility. Not a huge problem but could be easily fixed by a booster or adding another wifi node in the back of the facility. I hate to waste wireless data because the owner is too cheap to upgrade his wifi. With the recent uptick in attendance this year (busiest I've ever seen the place) I hope the owner spends some money to fix the wifi issue. read more

So far, so good. We joined under the "no commitment" membership since we're probably not going to be living nearby for very long. I think it's a great membership option and it wasn't expensive. I think it was $35 to join and $18 a month or something close to that. You can only go to the gym you join at, but I think it's a deal. One quirky detail, they require a checking account payment rather than credit card which we found odd. A cancelled check is necessary for membership. As for the gym itself: we joined the Hingham one because my mom noted that the one in Weymouth is always crazy busy. I hate being overheated and waiting for machines when I am trying to workout so the Hingham one seemed promising. I've only been a couple of times, but it is sparkling clean and fairly well temperature-controlled. It was a little hot one day, but not unbearable. As for crowding, they told us it might be busy in the mornings, but when we go, around 8, there are still tons of machines. My only small complaint would be that they show awful tv. I bring my personal DVD player (my new gym-necessity) so it's not a huge issue for me, but I hate how every channel is showing the news. I think a variety of programs would be helpful. I also haven't noticed too many annoying people at the gym. It's low key, but it has everything fancy gyms have except for the classes (which I could never gather enough courage to do anyway). read more

I have visited 40 PF sites during the last six months. This PF ranks in the top 25% of all the PF gyms that I have visited. They have a very good selection and quantity of aerobic and anaerobic machines and there are sufficient variety of free weights to keep most amateur lifters happy (1 & 1/2 LB increments would be helpful. Cleanliness has improved over the past year but there is probably room for improvement. A key employee who was far from being client orientated no longer works there. Overall, the gym provides great value for the money and deserves a 5 star rating. Well done! read more

This Gym is really great. I am from Weymouth but head to this gym as it tends to be less crowded in the evenings. really clean. However, the two that work the front desk in the evenings are completely incompetent - For example, tonight I saw the girl with the glasses eat 6 slices of pizza, but she was unable to set up my tanning booth appropriately so after putting on my lotion, there was no time set. Super frustrating! She rolled her eyes at me when I told her, and blamed the guy she was working with. Not cool you pizza eating, eye rolling savage. read more

I never write reviews but the older man with glasses working at the front desk around 5:45 tonight was so rude to me and I feel obligated to warn other people so they don't put up with it. I was having an awful day after my dog died and just wanted to work out to blow off steam. Been a black card member for 3 years now. The guy at the front held me up at the desk staring me down threatening not to let me in the gym while holding my keys. Why? Because my HAIR COLOR was different than the photo I took when I signed up. He kept staring at the computer monitor and then staring back at me mumbling about how different I looked which made me SUPER uncomfortable. I couldn't leave because he was holding my keys behind the desk, which was completely unnecessary. I literally had to ASK for my keys back. So creepy. He said, "This isn't you I can't allow you in." Insinuating I was using someone else's keycard, which is so insulting. Why would I need to take someone else's when it's only $10-20/month to join? Does he bully every person who walks in and looks slightly different from their photo? Because that's just what members want the second they walk in the gym, right? Having someone point out how different you look now than a few years ago? If that's how he handles a change in haircolor I can't imagine how he reacts to people who look different due to weight gain. If I owned this franchise I would be horrified to learn this was how an employee was treating members. He then quizzed me on my home location and first name, as though I was some suspicious criminal that couldn't be trusted instead of a welcomed member. I was clearly aggravated and as I walked away he yelled at me not to give him a hard time. Maybe he should get retrained on how to interact with customers by your younger employees, because they've been nothing but kind to me every time I've come in. read more

The locker rooms and equipment are always very clean and well-kept, I just wish they weren't constantly playing Fox News on the TVs

Bare bones, but sometimes that's all you need. I have the $10 a month membership, and it's worth every penny. There are tons of cardio machines, and I've never seen more than 1 or 2 of the treadmills not working (out of about 30... that's as good or better a rate than any other gym I've seen). I find the "judgement free zone" stuff a little silly, because I've never felt particularly judged at any other gym I've been a member of, but whatever. My favorite part is the 30 minute weight room... it's just a ring of weight machines and you're not supposed to do more than 2 reps on any of them. LOVE this idea, as every gym I've ever been to has had some guy with a neck as thick as his head monopolizing the abdominal machine for 35 minutes at a time, when all I want is a quick weight circuit workout. And the staff take this pretty seriously too: I did once see a staff member ask a member to use one of the weight machines in the main area if he wanted to spend longer than allowed. It's not a perfect gym. The bathroom's not the cleanest place in the world (but it's not gross either), and the machines aren't high end (no treadmills with individual TV screens, like fancier gyms have these days), and the WiFi totally sucks, and I have to watch Fox News on the TV screens... but for $10 a month, it's great. (Full disclosure: I'm a member here and at a more "full service" gym, which costs considerably more. I use the childcare in that one, but PF is near my house, and I go here in the evenings and on weekends when my husband is home to watch the kids.) read more

I canceled my registration IN PERSON, and they told me that I would have to go to another unit because it was still working. I went to the other fitness planet unit and they told me that I had canceled the plan in their system. Anyway, I went back to my country and continued to receive fees on my credit card until my card gets negative and I get overdrawn from the bank because of you! I want my refund for every month I have not used, if there is no positive response, I'll use my legal resources. read more

This a great deal and a great facility. Cardio is well represented as there a lots of machines for such and they do get used , Weight lifting gets its fair share with a wide range of equipment, such as smith machines, and such, although free weights, no benches, squats, etc. are limited. Plenty of dumb bells though. The facility is very clean and the staff are great. read more

I was looking for a gym for 90 to 120 days due to interim work location. I went to PF to sign up. The individual at the desk was rude, not friendly and very brusk. The explanation for the different plans was very brief. I selected a plan and started to complete the forms. The employee ask for my license and started writing. I had to explain that my address had changed. So, he had to tear up the form he started and was unhappy. He completed the new form and asked for by bank account number and routing information. I explained that i was going to put the charges on my credit card and tried to give him the card. He stated I need your bank info. I said I did not want to use my bank and he should use the credit card. He told me it was policy and I had to give it him. He explained that I could cancel the credit card and they would have no way to collect fees. He was exasperated and rude. I told him I could just as easily canceled my bank account. He said either I give him the Bank info or I could not join or work out. So, I left never to return. read more
