Nice clean facility run by professionals. Up-to-date equipment. Friendly staff. What's not to like? Excellent.

In comparison to the other PF locations in the area (Cleveland and Chattanooga), this is the best option. While smaller, it is abundantly cleaner and has fewer (actually none that i saw) people hanging around who aren't working out, that are just there taking up space and cool air. Scolded tonight with hot water while taking a shower by the female employee with the colored dreds who acted like she was cleaning the toilet. She flushed the toilets over and over even though I made her aware she was harming me! When I asked her to kindly stop she said "I can leave if I don't like it and if I don't leave she will call the police". Police stated her scolding me purposely with hot water by continued flushing of the toilets was not hazing/harassment only an annoyance. What? I don't know why I ever left PF years ago. There's always 1-2 friendly people at the main desk. They greet when you come and they say have a good day when you leave. A small thing I know but it's a nice personal touch and it makes me feel valued. There are lots and lots of equipment for the average person, and free weights; plus about 20 TV's to take your mind off exercising. The last place I worked out before started expanding the free eight equipment and made the machine area smaller and smaller. There are a lot of lockers and showers, and the place overall is cleaner than most places Ive been. I have tried most fitness places in the Chattanooga and Hixson area and this is the best. I drive further to PF compared to my last place. Canceling memberships seem to be a universal issue but reading the agreement or talking to an associate would help. A word of caution. I was a member two years ago and for some reason, I just now thought of putting my review on line. I joined the $20 a month under a year contract. About 10 months into the contract, I sent a letter stating I did not want to renew my contract. The manager of Hixson call me and told me that my contract was not up yet. I said I know but wanted to let them know in time to stop auto payments. She said OK. I did not think much about it but after about a year past my contract, I was going over my billing statement and found they were still taking out $20 a month. I had thought the $20 was for another company so did not realize it was PF. I contacted the manager and said I wanted them to stop payments and since I sent the letter and had not been in the club since I wrote the letter. I also asked if they would return the unauthorized payments as a refund. She contacted the owner (she said) and he referred to my contract that said I had to come into the establishment to cancel my membership and that letters and calls did not count. I told them to not only stop taking credit card payments out but also cancel my membership and also refund $240 of payments I did not authorize. I also said I am not going to the club to do it since I had written a letter (they had it) and called them. They refused and said they would not stop taking out payments because it was not in my contract to cancel using a letter or phone call. I ended up having to cancel my card and getting a new one so they could not take money out. Most unethical company I have ever dealt with so be careful and if you have a contract read it carefully...Or just go somewhere else to work out. read more

I've been a gym member at Planet Fitness for a week now and I have I am really enjoying it! First, the staff that signed me up was very through with every bit of the contract. I had done my share of reading over all of the website so nothing was a surprise to me. I went with the black card membership which allows me to bring a guest. So should my hubs want to join, no fee for him. Plus my favorite parts are the hydromassage and massage chair which I use as a reward for good workouts! I can also visit PF all over as I travel which is nice. All perks of the black card membership. I have kept my eye out for the messy people not cleaning the equipment which was mentioned in another review, I haven't see it. Everyone I've seen do as I do and wipe equipment down. I say I'd you see someone bit, say something to them or alert the staff to. As far as "judgment" (also mentioned in another review), I've not seen it. And trust me, I'd see it if it was happening. So run down: * great and friendly staff that are there to answer questions and help if you need. * Sign ups and payments the staff go over it all in many ways, there are no hidden fees. They are totally up front and explain everything. * Equipment is great and there's a lot of variety. The space is kept really clean. * And I've found the PF community great. People of all ages, all sizes and all levels of fitness working out. It's really nice. read more

I've been to this gym quite a few times with a friend before I committed to joining. The staff are friendly and the gym itself is clean which is a huge plus for anyone wanting to work out. Deducting stars because of the clientele and their lack of cleaning equipment. I saw far too many people use a machine, walk away and hop on something else. When it was mentioned to staff they said they would look into it, but it still continues. read more

Great place to work out. I love the judgement free zone. All different body types working out. As a black card member you can have access to the hydro massage beds which are great post workout. But sometimes there is one that is not working. . That is a bummer especially when you're "crunched" for time. read more

The only thing this location has going for it is...its part of the network of Planet Fitness so members can use other locations. I joined at this location off 153 in November 2021. Here is the down and dirty...and yes I WILL get to the dirty. When you check in and out or have any questions or want to use the tanning, hydro and massage beds dont expect the staff to jump up and be helpful whatsoever. The girl who works in the morning when I come in at 8am is always on her cell and seems bothered and annoyed she has to move her body. (I will say the other girl with the thick eye brows and full makeup is pretty nice though). Also Planet Fitness tip...you don't have to be a black card member to use the extra features because they never check anything. Machines..this location doesn't have a lot of the equipment you might find at other locations. The machines are also always dirty especially around the floor and in between the machines. The staff expects you to do their job and clean the facility. This came about at the start of covid but this needs to stop. Members do not work for PF. The staff is never busy. You can always find them.standing around at the front talking or on their phones. Bathrooms. Absolutely DISGUSTING. The mens stalls are always dirty. Almost always missing toilet paper, paper towels and soap. Today I ventured into the shower area because I am having work done at home so my water is off today. This location uses shower curtains. The ones in my shower were slimy and somehow rusty. Floors were what looked like moldy. Same with the grout in between the tiles of the shower. The light above the shower was burnt out. The fixture for turning on the water and adjusting the temp was broken so you had to grab the little piece of plastic that was barely hanging on. The paint on the ceiling is peeling off in almost every shower like there was a flood above and they just left it as is. When I walked on the floors near the lockers my feet felt like I just walked across the prep area of a fast food floor after the rush. The upright massage chairs have been overused and are broken and need to be replaced. When the massage is running you can tell on your back someone used it incorrectly because the chair just vibrates at several stages when its supposed to be massaging you. Its evident the owners have totally ignored this location for a long time and it needs a major overhaul. I use the location in North Scottsdale AZ off Via Linda and that place is pristine and the staff is very helpful, friendly and always working on something. They even have a white board at the front desk that the staff uses as a welcome sign. They draw on it and write out awesome motivational messages for the members to see when they come in. I do not recommend this location and I would cancel if it weren't for having to travel to AZ. I am going to try another location before I consider cancelling. To the owners...basic neglect has lead to the state of this location but you can fix it quite easily. Just get your butt in there and get to work. The staff also has no respect for you. I'm not sure they even know you because when I asked about the ownership the staff seemed totally unaware except to say it was a franchise and not Corp owned. read more

Needed a new gym and decided to try planet fitness. Liked it at first until I realized that they charged my card with a hidden annual fee even with the monthly membership! And it is absolutely ridiculous that it is non-refundable despite it being their fault of not telling me about the fee it in the first place! There was also one incident, where I could not even use some of equipment as they had a class that lasted for an hour or so. So beware of the limited number of equipments, unqualified trainers, and the hidden fees! read more

This is a great place to get in better shape. New equipment was installed during the lockdowns. The equipment is easy to use and adjust. No matter where you go, it's the person that makes great things happen and the gym is only the tool to get it done. If a person is sincere and will stick to it, you can get in better shape here. I couldn't go 5 minutes on a treadmill when I first joined. I kept at it and went every day, sometimes 2 times a day. 9 months later, I was using all of the strength equipment I felt would help me and that I was most comfortable with, had lost 56 lbs and was doing 45 minutes on the treadmill. All for $10 a month. Oh...and i was 65 years old at that time, and yes, I'm 68 now and I'm still going to Planet Fitness. read more

EDIT: I did speak with Tyler and I am happy with the way he resolved this. I'm going to wait until next month to see what happens before I update my star rating. I am happy, as of right now though. I just signed up a week ago and paid $3.98 for the rest of the month. I made an account online and noticed it said I was going to be billed $24.09 on 2/17, which didn't make sense, considering I JUST signed up. I called and spoke with Brandon who assured me it was a glitch and I would NOT be charged until 3/17. WELL GUESS WHAT, I just got charged. I called to tell someone and I got "I hope we can get this resolved for you. I'll have a manager reach out to you but I can't do anything." I mean, if it isn't resolved, we'll just see each other in court. You can't do that to people. I'll also call my bank and have them switch my account number so you can't do that again. I don't care, whatever it takes. I should have known this was going to be a terrible place to workout, but I happened to sign up about an hour before the incident with the belt happened and couldn't back out after I saw it. I'm cancelling as soon as I get refunded and I'm going to the YMCA. They know what professionalism is and ALL people are welcome! read more

I signed up for design your own program with Miriam. I was the only one to sign up for this. I arrived a few minutes early. She was finishing up with her clients. She continued to talk with them for a good 10 minutes. Walked past me without saying a word. At this point being very frustrated I walked up to the counter and canceled my class. She did manage to seek me out and try to work on the class. The only program that she gave me was a pre-printed sheet. She did not show me around the facility or help me with any of my questions or concerns. What a waste of time and energy if you were not helping anyone else. Just a "shout out" for 2 people at the Hixson location....Nakea, the manager, is always so welcoming and professional and her smiling face is a huge positive for me! Spencer, the newest trainer is a breath of fresh air for longtime customers,like myself. He sought out me and my friend and invited us to try a program we had not used in awhile. He promised a modified workout to accommodate our needs and he did just that! He has such a winning personality and customer service attitude! This place is as judgemental as it gets! Today, my sister-in-law that is down syndrome was working out here. She has been going with us there for at least 3 solid years now. She always wears her training belt on leg day to make sure she does proper form and does not hurt herself. As she is down syndrome, she does not know pain like someone else would, so she needs the belt to ensure she isn't hurting herself. Today, they tell her she needs to cover it up or take it off because she's intimidating people. My down syndrome sister-in-law is apparently intimidating people here. But don't say anything to anyone else wearing one, don't say anything to the guy with the cut off open shirt that you can see everything of, and don't say anything to the girl running around in a sports bra. No just single out the down syndrome girl. The one that isn't bothering a single person there. Why do you have something against people with mental disabilities?! This is as judgemental as it gets!!!! This is absolutely uncalled for. I can't believe the disgust of this place. Excuse us for trying to find a way for her to workout because we don't want her to have the usual diseases that down syndrome people are prone to. Excuse us for trying to make her healthier and live a normal life. Excuse us for minding our own business but oh let the perverts in there literally in cut off jean shorts sit there staring at me, not even attempting to work out. Love working out here! Very clean, nice staff, even when it's busy it doesn't feel crowded. Not a fan of the yearly fee that's on top of the monthly fee, but that is everywhere, not just this location. I love the total body enhancement and hydro massage after a workout! I could go on and on, but I'll keep it short. For a year I spent $200 a month at another gym working out with a trainer, got great results, but I had to end my membership there because I was finally where I wanted to be, and I simply couldn't keep spending that kind of money. I went to Planet Fitness when I cancelled and got back doing more cardio than I should, got back doing the same boring thing. I don't like talking to people at the gym and the people at Planet Fitness was completely different than the little, privately owned gym that I had been going to where everybody knows everybody's name, and I missed that. Anyway, I've been going to Planet Fitness since July of 2017 doing my own thing, minding my own business, punch in, leave, and about 5 weeks ago started talking to Spencer, the trainer, and have been meeting with him three days a week between an hour and an hour and a half each time, and am absolutely loving it! I never gave him the chance because I assumed I couldn't get what I got at my other gym for $22 a month. Now, I loved my trainers at the gym that was costing me $200, but honestly, for $22, and the classes are super small, too, Spencer is great, it's so much better. It's better because of the price, yes, but it's also truly great and not just because of the price, and I'm enjoying it because Spencer actually knows what he's doing. I always assumed a trainer at PF wouldn't have the knowledge or expertise as the trainers that I had because of an experience I had at another location several years ago. The "You get what you pay for" idea was in my head. I was wrong and should have given Spencer a chance months ago! Yes, I've had a trainer for a year, but I still like to be told exactly what to do and the people in the classes and Spencer make it fun to work out. The classes are actually hard, too. I didn't think they'd be hard compared to the type of classes that I'm used to, but no, I was wrong. He knows what he's doing. I judged the guy in the no judgement zone :). He's amazing! Also, the more I talk to people at PF, the more they talk back. It was probably me. When I go to a gym I don't want to be talked to and here I am thinking they're rude because they don't say much, but then I realize I don't either. :) Anyway, Spencer is just amazing. I also don't care for male trainers, but he really makes the classes enjoyable, knows what he's doing, makes me sweat like a pig, motivates me, and I'm seeing results! I switched my membership from a previous location to this location in April of 2015. They did not disclose to me that they were enrolling me into a new contract (I was already in a previous contract so there was no need to create a new one), just that they had to re-enroll me because they could not locate me in their system. After they enrolled me into the system they could not find me for months (so that I could check into the gym) but they could find my bank account information to bill me. After dealing with this for several months my husband and I tried to cancel my membership but they still could not find me in the system (we had separate accounts so he was able to cancel). I had to call their corporate office several times who supposedly corresponded via email to the local office to contact me since no managers are ever present in the actual location, but no one ever called me. I had to put a stop pay on my bank account since they will not let me cancel and no one will call me back. Planet Fitness still has not dissolved my contract or have contacted me in regard to my "contract" in two months. If you like companies to steal your money, than by all means sign up for a membership. read more
