I have had many, many memberships with just about every gym in the area and PF is the one is swear by now. The rates are amazing, you can go whenever you want, the equipment and facilities aren't outdated like a lot of places but the best part is that there is space! There is nothing I despise more than feeling like I'm suffocating from having to be so close to other people working out. They do not offer child care/watch....yet so if you require that I can't knock you for going somewhere else but if you don't need it I can't think of a reason not to join. read more

Fine until you try to cancel. I canceled my membership in person on 7/09 (BEFORE the "billing period" where you can't cancel until the next month--another way they try to get you), and got a printed receipt of the cancellation form, but I was still charged on 7/17. I had several conversations by phone with the manager Damian to ensure it was canceled, and he said he'd call me back after escalating to his boss, but I never heard back. And then of course there was a charge on my statement. Either deceptive/scam tactics, or incompetent staff. read more

For someone intimidated by going to a gym for the first time, incredibly discouraging. Would love to speak with someone about my experience. I've been a member of Planet Fitness about 7 months and have been to probably 25 locations across the country in that time. At first, this Monona location was one of the worst (bad lighting, felt cavernous) ... since the remodel 3 months ago it's one of the nicer locations. I have been going here for a couple of weeks and at various times. Tonight, I'm walking out shortly after walking in because it's packed- which I don't mind- but 75%+ of the people are maskless, I only saw two or three washing equipment down after using, and the locker room has quite a few men just hanging out on the benches maskless blocking the lockers. I'll go back because the times that I have been here have been wonderful , except for tonight. Sucks. With the pandemic surging again, I would just expect more of a stricter policy on masking and cleaning equipment. I felt like I would contract Covid tonight for sure if I stayed. Always friendly staff! Staff always cleaning equipment and plenty of stations with paper towels and disinfectant spray bottles to clean equipment yourself. I have a Black Card membership and use it when traveling mostly and bringing family or friends with me. I haven't been disappointed with any of the locations I've visited. read more

For the price you can't go wrong. If you're looking for a cheap place to go workout then this is the place for you. Several cardio machines and weights. Plus unlimited tanning! New year, new gym. I just joined Planet Fitness a few weeks ago and have enjoyed my time there. The cost is unbeatable. I was shopping around for gyms around Madison and most of them were a minimum of $40 per month, compared to the $10 per month at Planet Fitness. I was skeptical at first about the quality and equipment. I was not looking for a super, hardcore gym with fitness courses or crossfit or yoga. I wanted to do a little cardio, a little strength, and whatever else. Planet Fitness is perfect for the simple workout. Having the gym open 24 hours is key. Recently, I dropped someone off at the airport at 5AM and wanted to head to the gym afterwards to make the most of my morning. It was quiet in the gym, with lots of availability of machines and weights. Having that flexibility is wonderful. The machines and weights are clean and everyone I've seen have all cleaned off machines and been respectful of the environment. I would suggest bringing a padlock to the gym, just to lock up any valuables, keys, etc. There is the black card option, with tanning and massages and flexibility of location. For now, the general membership is working perfect for me. If you are looking for a great, simple gym, Planet Fitness is a solid option to check out! read more

If I would have done this review 2 years ago, I would have given it 4 or 5 stars. It's just gotten very crowded and seems a bit less well taken care of. I do like the size and set up of this gym. It's easy to get around and I've rarely had to wait for a machine that I wanted to use. I wish the 30 minute workout area was more enforced. It's a great way to use a lot of different machines and get a good workout in, but I'm almost NEVER able to actually do the full 30 minutes the way it's intended because there is always someone in there just using the machines and not actually doing the workout the way you're supposed to. Also - let's talk about it's proximity to the sewage plant and how it almost ALWAYS smells like straight up poop in there. Even the parking lot does. Granted, that's not their fault but WHOA. That is a pungent scent. I actually prefer this one as far as set up, space, and equipment to the East Towne Mall location, however it has just gotten too busy that I rarely go there any more. It's really nice to have the option though since it's so easy to get to. I think I would start going there again if they had more staff for cleaning and keeping it fresh, but it's still a great place to work out and I am a HUGE fan of Planet Fitness in general. It's my first gym I've ever joined because it's so affordable and the perks for just $20 a month are amazing! If you're looking to join a gym and this is the closest PF to you, I would suggest coming here and trying it! read more

I visited this P.F. while in town for work. I arrived shortly after 5 p.m. on a weekday and it was PACKED. Nearly every treadmill was occupied, so I almost put a grumpy face on. The locker room was pretty clean, minus the dead flowers that were laying to the side of the sink. I found the locker area to be crowded and cramped at this heavy usage time. (I have visited this location other times, during early morning hours, and I enjoy the less crowded atmosphere better....that being said, there was more eye candy to observe at this afternoon time of day. Anyway, by the time I changed clothes and headed back out to the gym, plenty of treadmills were open and I hopped on for a quick 8 miles. Outside of 1 dude dropping a major fart next to me, the experience was sound and good for a P.F. gym. Location wise, it's pretty easy access off of the Beltline, and there are some decent convenience stores/food places nearby to hit up after your visit to the gym if you need to run an errand or two. read more

I recently moved to Madison after graduating. I was spoiled with the availability of a free gym as part of tuition. When I moved here, I started searching around for gyms & I couldn't be happier with Planet Fitness. They're very close to where I work, there's always machines available and the equipment is first-rate. What really sold me is the atmosphere they create for their members. They also have VERY nice tanning beds, hydro massage and RED light therapy machines available to their black-card members. I used to tan at Sun Tan City, and I basically get better machines for the same cost of a membership there PLUS an entire workout facility. All this, and they're still significantly cheaper than many of the other gyms in the area. because they don't waste their time or money with all the fluffy add-ons you'll see at big gyms. read more

I've been coming to this Planet Fitness for about four years now. I love the atmosphere and their concept of the no judgement zone. I only needed a place where I could run indoors during winter so I looked around. Being on a budget and considering the only thing I wanted to do was have the freedom to decide when and how I wanted to workout, Planet Fitness was the best place for me. Recently, this location just got new equipment and machines so that's pretty cool. I would highly recommend this Planet Fitness for anyone who enjoys a no judgement and the freedom to workout however you'd like at your own pace without heavy expenses and someone to pester you about the workout that they think you should do. read more

I have been working out here for about a year and a half and am down 45 pounds. It's generally clean and the staff are attentive. My biggest complaint is that their scales are chronically out of order. That makes it really difficult to gauge the weight loss progress. It's time for a new scale guys! read more

I honestly loved coming to this gym most of the staff are beyond great and helpful. I was honestly taking aback by the terrible customer service and feeling I was an inconvenience to ask for a service I PAY FOR. I said sorry if I am an inconvenience and since I guess i will leave and the response was Just okay. Sorry if I interrupted the workers "social hour". It seriously made me question myself if I am doing something wrong but I have never been treated like this anywhere ever before and I am debating now switching gyms due to the lack of common respect and workers making customers extremely uncomfortable. The dudes are chill and all the other workers are great but aspen sucksss. Lol just saying if anyone was curious. Thus including I have extreme anxiety and I was finally after a year of going to the gym feeling comfortable and then this happens. Just terrible. read more

I'm a "several years now" member of PF. I've been very grateful to have a workout place that's convenient and clean, but I'm extremely disappointed that our county's mask mandate is not being enforced. Like another reviewer here, I too have left on a couple occasions for this reason. This week one day I counted 35 people at the club. 17 were not wearing masks appropriately or at all. One man came in without a mask. Neither front desk person told him to put one on and he proceeded to the locker room. I've asked personnel to do mask checks, but they say they've been told not to confront people. This should be part of their job. In fact, in months past, I observed one member being asked to leave because he was not masked. Suggestion: make announcements on PA followed by regular rounds by staff to ensure compliance. Those of us trying to keep everyone healthy should be supported by staff doing what may be uncomfortable. More effort on their parts will make for a safer environment for all. read more

This gym is just ok. It is tailored mainly to people who want to do cardio and light weightlifting. I say this because this gym lacks a few things that are needed for one to actually bulk up efficiently. First off their are only Smith machines. Smith machines are ok, but they do not come close to getting the same results as standard non supported bench press, also with the lack of barbells you are also unable to do effective deadlifts. Secondly from what i saw there is only one area to do pull ups, for me in a gym this size there should at least be a couple of places. Another thing that bugged me about the gym was that there was only one piece of equipment to do dips on, its not an expensive piece of equipment and there should be more than one considering how many other duplicate machines they have. With all that being said there are a few things that i liked about the gym. It is very spacious with ample room to accommodate a lot of people. The next thing i liked was the cleanliness of the gym, the upkeep was top notch, with non of the machines they had being broken or dirty. They also have a nice locker and shower area, which is a plus. I feel i also have to add to my list of pros the very affordable rates they offer. It is cheap, which is probably the best selling point they have. In conclusion i have to say that i do not agree with the whole vibe of planet fitness and there almost big brother nature towards people who want to get big. If you can deal with lunk alarms and a bunch of judgmental non judgmental rules then this might be the place for you, but if you just want to work out with no BS and don't care about price then look elsewhere read more

They have a lot of cardio equipment such as treadmills, elliptical and cycling machines. They have a few stair climbers. Lots of options for weight lifting. The ewuipment is getting old, the newer PF at East Towne has equipment with built in TV screens. And equipment is frequently breaking down due to the age of it. I got a very good first impression of Planet Fitness. I went to work out with my friend who invited me because of the unlimited guest pass deal this gym offers. There was plenty of equipment, the place was spacious, and I enjoyed the motivational wording on the walls. My friend in particular really likes the "judgement free zone" quote. All the weights and equipment seemed new and clean. Purple also happens to be my favorite color, and there is lots of it at this gym! The hydro massage tables were also nice to use after a weight lifting workout. The 10 minute session helped soothe my muscles. My friend's $20 membership gets him unlimited tanning, hydro massages, and guest passes. So much for such a small price. I wish there was one of these gyms in downtown Madison! read more

This refers specifically to the Planet Fitness in Monona, Wi. It used to be a great place to work out but lately it has really gone downhill. Of 5 stationary bikes 4 are out of order and have been for quite a while as well as some other machines. They also have removed 1 of 2 stretching cages and so you often have to wait to get your turn. All complaints seem to fall on deaf ears. I was told by the manager that the parent company only has 3 technicians to repair all the machines in Wisconsin and they aren't in the rotation to get new machines. However, they did get different machines for the 30 minute circuit which are more difficult to adjust than the previous machines. It also is not a well maintained as it used to be. It almost feels as if it's getting ready to close or relocate. Corporate better look at the state of this franchise! read more

I'm grateful for this place. I can actually say I love my gym. After years of other local fitness clubs that made my anxiety explode, this place is different. There is plenty of equipment, the prices are great, the place is CLEAN, the tanning beds and massage areas are well maintained. You have access to a personal trainer and the staff is very friendly. It's a club for everyone not just seasoned weight trainers and little bunnies. I'm hoping this culture of athletic club catches on. ok. i like the place for: a. new and so far well maintained machines b. cleanliness c. reasonable monthly rates with option to quit w/o penalty why three stars?!: they discriminate against the strong. while the walls scream with all the planet fitness 'you belong' and we do not care for the intimidating body builder kinds... who wear certain kinds of clothes and clank weights... that is not sufficient. they have no free Olympic weights; no proper pullover, rear traps, or delt-s machines but that is not enough. The leg press in need of 16 45lbs plates for me and others, only has 4 they have only 4 45lbs plates per smith station (2 on each side). no, it is not because they can not afford to have the sensible 4 or 5 (per side). they make a policy decision to discriminate against the strong! i do 300-400 benches and 400-600 dead lifts and squats. i am not a body builder. i do not wear tight fitting clothes, do not make extra loud noises with weights.... technically (except for being poor) i do not fit the planet fitness profile, because 4 x 45 is only 180 stinking pounds of station weight (plus small change in little plates). and i would not mind except... every once in a while some jerk comes by and, while you are using the station and it is obvious, takes your inadequate to start with plates, and your protestations are left to careless mouthing. i do not care to have a fight over weights pilfering... but how stupid do you have to be (as management) to literally provoke fights by intentionally set up shortage of weights?!!!! there is only one rational conclusion: planet fitness is intentionally discriminating against the strong, even when they are just as regular a folks as the rest of the overweight, amateur, weight-loss conscious, or what have you crowd. penny wise but dollar stupid. the first time the 6.2 tall stupid guy took 'my' 45s, while i was telling him i was using them (pretending to be listening to his ear-phones) i quit for a few months to simmer down. the second time, it was infuriating. today -- again, some tattoos wielding piece of weak impolite human idiocy who would not take off earphones did this again. the place is not overcrowded and the people working there are nice, and over the last couple of years i have made friends there, as the people of all ages come and they are a-ok. but the plates limitations intentionally maintained are sick and provoke confrontations with occasional abundance of idiots who know not the sensible etiquette of the gyms the world over, to ask...before taking the weights from a manned station. read more

I recently graduated from UW Madison, and I had been looking for an affordable gym. I thought that Planet Fitness would be great for $10 a month, but I definitely was not correct in that assumption. There seemed to be a really "anti-weightlifting" atmosphere there. I did not find any bench presses, squat racks, or places where I could dead lift properly. They also had this alarm that they would set off if you dropped weights, or breathed loudly. It was ridiculous, you would think that that alarm would be more distracting than someone working hard trying to get better. I gave this gym a chance, but when I was kicked out dropping a heavy weights during a dumbbell press, I just couldn't justify continuing my membership. Plus the free pizza mondays and bagel tuesdays just seemed like a total contradiction. I thought this was a gym. It seems to me that they just want to keep their members out of shape so that they continue coming back -- instead of wanting them to get healthy. Do not go to Planet Fitness, it is a joke. read more

I am very happy with this gym. I am overweight and I feel very comfortable here. I love the 30 minute workout, so close to what Curves offers. There are many choices here. The only downside is I work out after work and it seems like everyone else gets off of work the same time I do (4pm) so some days it is difficult to get on a treadmill. I see people coming in for a tour every day so I think this location might have to get even bigger (Southtown area) For $20 a month you get way more that other gyms in the area like tanning for no extra charge if you pay the $20 a month. Anytime fitness charges $15 a month on top of a $30 a month membership. A big thumbs up for making me comfortable enough to sweat. read more
