Been to planet fitness locations all over western US. This one is really, really clean and that issue is clearly paid attention to. One of The staff is always at the front desk, unlike some where they tend to wander. The machines are well spaced, organized logically and in good working order. Don't believe the "no contract" BS they spew. I told them I needed to cancel for now because of COVID. Well, they told me, you need to send a certified letter or stop in. Hmm. Stop in where is not safe. So I did ... and still got charged a few days later for the $10 fee!! When I asked I was told more BS about "you have to cancel by a certain day" which I'm sure changes depending on when you cancel. Hmm So about before COVID - they apparently hire anyone off the street and put a purple shirt on them and say they're an athletic adviser. Crapola!! This has been my primary gym for just over a year now and I have no plans to look elsewhere! This Planet Fitness location is consistently clean and well-maintained, and there hasn't been a day when I've seen it too crowded. The location is great, with ample parking and bus stops nearby. You really can't beat the pricing. My husband and I both do the $10 a month membership, which is great. We tried out the premium one, which is nice if you like hydromassage or tanning, but we didn't feel like we needed either one. For $10 a month, I'm motivated enough to not want to waste money, but don't feel too bad if I decide to have a month where I'm more focused on running outside or yoga classes, and maybe only make it to PF once or twice. I also like that I can log in online to manage my payment information. When I have called in regarding account questions, I have received very helpful answers from staff as well. The equipment is everything that my husband and I need for working out. There is enough variety that we can both challenge ourselves at the very different levels that we are at! There are a ton of cardio machines, so I would doubt that you would ever need to wait. I also love using the rooms that are dedicated to ab work or a quick 30-minute workout circuit, although my favorite activity right now is running on a machine directly in front of the Food Network (a little torturous, I'll admit). One thing I plan to try next are the small group classes.. PF doesn't have an offering of group fitness the way that other gyms do, but they do have small groups that you can sign up for that do arms, legs, and other targeted workouts. I haven't seen a group doing this, but I did notice online that there is a sign up option. This might be a great way to get even more work out motivation! read more

I like clean, safe, and well equipped gyms. When it comes to gyms, functional beats fancy. After touring the gyms in the Madison area, Planet Fitness was my choice. The staff does a good job, the equipment is well maintained and it's almost always open. The membership fees make it a great value. Clean gym, great equipment, friendly knowable staff. The only down side and its a big one is they have the wrong ratio of equipment. Does not seem to matter what day of the week or what time of day. or what location I go to.The strength training equipment is always in use with a line waiting for them. The cardio equipment on the other hand is never a wait and typically half of it is not in use. I have commented to the staff several time on this, and they give me the normal standard response of " try coming in at a less crowed time" Planet fitness, how about eliminating some of the unused cardio equipment and replacing it with more strength training equipment. read more

I waffle between 3 and 4 stars for this review, but I think 4 is accurate given it only costs $10/month. If you are looking for A+ amenities, big group classes, and a very upscale atmosphere, this is not the gym for you. But the staff is friendly, the gym is clean, and there is plenty of good equipment for solo workouts. And, for $10/month, it is way nicer than one should expect. They don't cap their membership however, so if you are going right after work it will be busy. Other than that, it's a great place to work out, and for a great value. read more

I was told by the staff member that sold me the membership that the next paayment would be taken from my account on December 17th However eleven days later an aditional payment was taken from my account without my knowledge or consent by planet fitness. The gym itself is good. The equipment is nice and it's always been very clean. Staff is mostly pleasant and the locker room is spacious. If you're going to go, I recommend going with the $20 membership, because you get access to the hydromassage which is pretty close to heaven. It feels so good, regardless of if you've just worked out or not. I haven't taken advantage of the tanning booth. The other benefit of the $20 membership is you get unlimited guest passes. The guest can not however use the massage, which is a shame. Here's the downside. The gym prides itself on its "no gymtimidation" thing. Enough to the point where they have a dress code and everything. Problem is that while they enforce the dress code, they really don't do a whole lot about people using the gym being dicks. My friend and I are bigger girls. You'd think people would appreciate that we'd be going to the gym. Nope. We get stared at, and on one awesome occasion my friend was asked by some skinny woman to get off the equipment because she had no place there. When we approached the person on staff, they kind of just shrugged it off. That aside, they get funded by Biggest Loser. How the hell do they feel like that's ok? Biggest Loser is the poster child for fat shaming and unhealthy habits. Over 75% of their cast has regained their weight. Super inspiring. read more

I signed up for Planet fitness here after being a member for a few years back east (though I didn't go as often as I would have liked.) The gym is the same, though this one has a great 30-minute workout area, and you can pay as little as $10 a month. That's about the lowest price available anywhere. Everything was clean and despite everything being decked out in purple and yellow a nice place to work out is provided. Also included in access to a fitness trainer who will set you up with a workout - and is also the reason I left. How it worked back east: The trainer sat down with you, discussed goals and what's reasonable and what isn't, and went through a workout program with you on the spot, setting up exercises, weights, reps, and a timeline for a review. How it worked here: The trainer talks to you about your goals and what's reasonable and what isn't, and sets up a workout within a day or two that makes no sense for your goals and other trainers can't even figure out what exactly what the point was. For example: my custom workout didn't include sets or reps which is kind of important. In addition, one of my goals was to be able to do 30 pushups. Pushups require mostly chest and tricep strength. Not one exercise for triceps. Not one. Bottom line: if you know what you're doing then Planet Fitness is the gym for you. It's cheap and easy and open 24 hours. If you need trainer help look elsewhere. read more

I recently started to go to Planet Fitness. I mostly go to the Mineral Point location, but my membership allows me to go to the South Town location as well. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. The machines are well maintained and it is never overly busy. The first thing I noticed about this gym is how clean it is! I've been a member here for about 6 months now and really have no complaints. It has the essentials for my workouts so it's perfect for me. There are obviously certain afternoons that are busier than others, but even so, it never feels as packed the gyms I used to be a member of in L.A. The staff is great--always saying hello and "have a good day!" Every time I walk by the fitness trainer and he tells me to have a great workout, I may push myself a little more on the elliptical. I enjoy coming here any time of day, really. No obnoxious meat heads and the women who weight train? Inspiration! read more

Love the price, location, and variety of equipment. Their "no judgement" motto is actually really great. I've never felt comfortable in a gym until I went here! For $10 you really can't complain about much. Nice big area with lots of newer machines and equipment. I wish they had kettle bells. They have WiFi but its pretty slow. Staff is usually friendly and they are always cleaning something. They do get busy around 5 o'clock. I try to avoid it then because you cant really get a spot near the weights and there are a lot of, what they call, "lunks" there at that time. Guys in muscle tees, dropping their weights, chugging their protein shakes. I once put a weight down at a bench and then went to go get another one and one of them took my bench I was obviously using. If you avoid this place around their busy times it not bad for what you pay for. read more

I have always loved my time at Planet Fitness and was sad to hear they were shutting down due to COVID. But of course it was the safest thing for employees and patrons. What really disappointed me was when I tried to cancel my membership due to my location closing. I sent an email asking for it to be canceled immediately. Brittany's response was to let me know she canceled my membership, but I would still be charged for the remainder of the month that the gym was shut down. I reached out again to let her know I was unable to make that last payment due to COVID leaving me unemployed. I asked if there was a way we could figure something out so I would be able to return once the gym opened and I was back on my feet financially. I received no response. Her closing in the email was "feel free to reply to this email is you have any questions or concerns". I have had a few problems with her in person at the gym. Never greets customers warmly (as all the other employees do) and has harassed me while I am there. I am very disappointed with Planet Fitness for allowing such an employee to work in a "judgement free zone". My real frustration is she, nor anyone else, had the decency to respond to my email in an attempt to help a loyal customer. I was ready to join back up in September, but after that it's safe to say I will be finding a new gym. read more

Love this gym! I visit Madison frequently and visited for free using a one-day pass. It was exactly what I wanted - clean, huge, tons of treadmills, great resistance equipment. I joined immediately. I've never found it crowded and parking is easy. Friendly staff. I just wish the PF near my home in LA was as nice - clearly from reading reading reviews not a place I would go. read more

Can't really complain about a gym you only pay $10 a month for. The WiFi is not always the best. I struggle with their internet landing page almost everyday to connect. The staff is generally very friendly, but never know the answers to questions on corporate items. A solid tip i have for anyone using the back row of treadmills at this location -- don't run in-front of the sports channel tvs. The guys there, tend to collect behind them, and i don't like that feeling of having someone standing behind me :). This location is impecable! The actual facility is always clean, not a dirty paper towel or winter salt footprint around. The set up of the gym is great too, there are rooms private from the general cardio area and cardio/30 min themed rooms that help the beginner! There are tons of staff available at ALL times of the day, even at midnight-when I like to workout. The staff always want to help you with literally anything you need and can you show you how to use machines/gives tips. Plus the price is seriously unbeatable and the location is awesome. read more

I really wanted this gym to be different from all the other gyms I have worked with. When I canceled my membership, I was assured that I would not incur any future charges. The following week I was charged the yearly fee. When I called in to ask for a refund since I would not be a member for the year I was charged I was told no. I used to refer friends and family. This place is excellent, especially for the price. ALWAYS so clean and staff are always friendly. Good variety of machines and honestly even during the "peak" hours I have never had an issue getting on a machine I want. No stressful sign up sheets on the machines either :) They are open 24/7 too, which as a night shift nurse I really appreciate. Lots of TVs lined up with a big variety of channels (not just the basic ones like most gyms). Wifi is free and fast. Haven't taken advantage of the training classes yet but I will be! I feel so at home here and actually look forward to going to the gym for once! read more

This gym is a good value! The black card membership is only $22/month. The only downside is that at about 5pm and also for most of January the gym is very full. But at other times it is pretty empty and nice! The staff is always super friendly and the locker room area is clean. For the price you can't really complain! read more

I cancelled my memebership well before the annual fee was due and yet I still got charged. It overdrafted my account- Planet Fitness was able to refund the annual fee but will not take responsibility for overdrafting my account for a charge I should not have been billed. I've been going back and forth between speaking to the managers and speaking with my bank but it seems like this is going nowhere. read more

Planet Fitness Mineral Point is the best gym I've been to out of about 6 gyms I've been a member of in the last 10 years. For $20 a month you get 24 hour access to the gym, tanning, red light therapy, hydro massage, and a helpful staff. The machines are all brand new as this gym just opened at the beginning of 2014. The locker rooms/showers/bathrooms/counters are all always very clean. The gym itself is very clean (and doesn't have the nasty sweat/feet smell some gyms have lol), every time I go there (daily & at various times) there is always 1 or more staff cleaning different areas. Unlike some gyms I've been to, this one doesn't feel like a dating field, everyone is minding their own business working out. They have cardio equipment such as tredmills, steppers, elipticals, gliders, bikes also the different weight machine circuit area and free weights. Their tanning beds are really powerful and I enjoy the hydro massage too. read more
