I am in town for a conference and stopped into the PF in Sandusky to tan. I checked in at 7:54P and stood at the counter while there were two staff members talking to each other. A lady walked up to the counter and checked in and staff finally acknowledged my presence. As I inquired if I could tan, they suggested that the lady that just checked in was the last tanning session. They were closing at 9P. I didn't challenge the issue as I checked in first and just left. Customer service was lacking and needs to be more attentive when people check in. It was like they were in closing mode and didn't care to demonstrate good customer service. read more

The only issue I have is them expecting you to go to a different location while they're shut down without any reimbursement. I tried to address my concerns, but I was brushed off. The reason it upsets me is because I do not live in sandusky, but it's where I reside a majority of the time so I will be driving an additional 50mins+ a day to visit other gyms from where I typically reside. read more

Do not sighn up for this unless you know you won't be moving ever where there is no store near you. Or may cancel while out of town. You cannot cancel unless you go in to your store it says that you can write a letter and cancel but I have sent 3 and still billing me. read more

It's been so long since I updated my review! A lot has changed in the year+ since my last review. The equipment and facility is the same, but the crass and uncomfortable staff members have been removed. The current team ranges from okay to great. What's nice is that even at this "mega gym" level, the people can get to know you. I love being able to walk in, smile at the staff, and get to the locker room. Really makes the gym more home like. I'd give five stars, but unfortunately there can still be improvements with getting people on track with dress code, cleaning their equipment, clearing off their weights, and general gym behavior. Sometimes I end up cleaning equipment before and after I use it. read more

I dropped by to see what this place had to offer. If you've educated yourself when it comes to fitness, you'll probably be disappointed. I certainly was. Virtually endless rows of relatively ineffective cardio machines, and a *TINY* selection of free weights. There were a good number of machines, but machines are generally a poor substitute when it comes to building strength, and these machines weren't particularly good either. I will commend them for having a station where you can do pull-ups though, as that was a plus. The equipment selection and the signage all suggested a place where serious effort wasn't encouraged. If you've heard the horror stories about Planet Fitness in general (look up "The Plight of Muscled Americans" or "The Planet Fitness Nightmare," for example), then you'll have a better idea of what I mean. Suffice to say that Planet Fitness may be cheap, but you get what you pay for... and when it comes to taking care of your body, going cheap will tend to get expensive further down the road. read more

Notice: this happened a couple of years ago. I simply stopped attending and never renewed my membership; no one ever felt the slight curiosity to learn why! So...NO MATTER HOW MUCH THEY MAY WRITE NOW, IT DOESN'T MAKE UP FOR THE ABSOLUTE DISREGARD THEY SHOWED ME. Terrible, no support whatsoever from the people who are supposed to advise you when you need help. I used to go to PF at 5 am because I work very early. I set an appointment to see John Donald who would advise me on what equipment to use. The first time he was supposed to be there at 5:00 am; I waited until 5:30 and had to leave. The second time he was also late and there were several people waiting. He couldn't possibly give the necessary attention to each customer. He gave me some vague and meager instructions. The place is noisy and they do not care about customers. Absolute loss of money and fat chance that I'm going to visit this place again. read more

Nice and clean gym, but was disappointed to arrive at 6:05am and see the doors were still locked. There were about 10 cars in the lot all waiting for someone to open the store, which finally happened about 6:20 am. read more

Front desk needs to figure out televisions and remote controls. Sport channels are often on WE or USA and front desk claims remotes are locked away. Why? Please empower employees to handle customer requests. read more

I know some of you out there r thinking about joining a gym with the New Year coming up. Do yourself a favor if your serious about working out Don't join Sandusky Planet Fitness! Tag line You Belong to a gym where nothing ever gets fix if something is wrong with a piece of equipment they stick a sign on it if you ask if it will ever get fixed they tell they have called what does that mean, they got all new equipment the end of August any none of it has ever worked right. The machines just shut off at random when you are working out on them. Stairmaster have always been a problem since they got them. They never fix things they don't care about the members needs AT ALL! OH and fyi the T.V.S never work and guess what they never get fixed. read more

I'm not really a fan of Planet Fitness - I only have a membership because I wanted a "back-up gym" for when my regular gym was closed. I don't really like the brand of equipment they use, the tv's, the loud colors...just a personal preference. BUT...this location gets 4 stars because when I came in and told them I was a member in Memphis and didn't have my card with me, they gave me a big smile - no hassle, didn't even bother looking up my ID - and told me to enjoy my workout. I had just left the Norwalk Rec center after a major headache dealing with their front desk, and that welcoming attitude was exactly what I needed. They also had grape frooties along with the usual tootsie rolls - major score! (Notice I said they HAD grape frooties!) read more

I'm a black card member and I don't even want to come. My boyfriend and I use to workout here but haven't in like 2 months. Every time we go over half of the treadmills are not working, TVs are usually messed up, people don't clean the machines, staff is too busy talking to each other behind the counter, tanning beds are always busy I can go on but let's just say it's a huge disappointment. They say "no judgement zone" but the staff is the most judgmental group of people. The lunk alarm goes off often, but not often enough. For instance, on 3/3 I had to inform the front desk when high school aged people were literally throwing weights around the gym. In regards to "no judgement zone", what give the staff the right to ban someone from a gym? I wasn't personally banned, however the reason for banning one of my close friends is ridiculous. As a beginner gym, it's average. However if you need more than just cardio equipment (only 4 stairmasters which are ALWAYS busy) then you need to upgrade to a new gym. The people who workout at PF are either just sitting on their phone taking up space on the equipment, wearing crop tops (and not talked to about their clothing, when clearly there is a sign that talks about dress code), throwing weights around (mostly the high school aged people), or not cleaning the equipment off when done. I don't think I've ever seen the smith machines been clean- that's disgusting. Not to mention the pizza nights when they bring in pizza and it is the busiest night of the month. Pizza is counter active to a gym environment-- shouldn't you offer healthy alternatives. Makes me question the integrity of the company. The staff doesn't check everyone into the gym, so as a full paying member I'm left questioning if I can just walk right in off the street. This gym is always busy. There is no time of day when it is not crowded or when you don't fight over a stairmaster or a smith machine. Location is good, right near the Sandusky Mall complex area. Now to mention the "trainer" they hired after Justin left. Justin was a great trainer BTW who was actually certified. Talking about integrity of the company, the new trainer-- has a current warrant out for his arrest. Do they not conduct thorough background checks? He went through a PF training-- which is 2 weeks training, and suddenly he is qualified to instruct classes and give advice about people's health. This does not make someone a trainer -- real trainers go through rigorous coursework, not a 2 week training. Go to an actual trainer. Have them write out a plan for you to follow and you'll see actual results. read more

My daughter went there yesterday as a guest. She's 22 and is a nurse. She came home happy as could be. I thought about getting her a membership but have conflicting thoughts about the place. Tried to find a rules page but found none. She uses a tanning lotion she bought through a beauty salon for beds. Does she have to use P.F.'s lotion? Is it a safe gym or is it like the show "Shameless" where it's all hookup types? I guess that once you sign in for the "Black Card" membership, and after the yearly $39 fee...is it worth it. I hate being "stuck" with a place that is unprofessional, worrysome, dirty, controlling (beyond reason) and even though the grunting of the Braze tennis player Gabriella Sabatini bothered the hades out of me, I heard "grunting" at P.F. in forbidden. I think grunting while actually doing GOOD workout happens since you grunt even with something minor, like pooping. So it's 50/50 I'll sign her up, depending on cost, the 12 month commitment, and everything mentioned above. After all, I drive her there after her work while I work, so I'd be wasting my time too. None the less...I betcha it's great there, hence the 4 stars based on her smile. read more
