Probably the smallest and most compact Planet Fitness I've been to. The facility is clean and the machines are updated.

I was a member of Planet Fitness, this specific location to be exact. I chose this location because it was 5 minutes walking from where I live and also it was $15 per month. Honestly this is a great deal. The facilty is also not that horrible. Relatively clean and they have a lot of decent equipment (except traditional bench press). I cancelled my membership due to the high volume of members, I felt like it is impossible to do a proper workout. For some personal reasons, I have to re-join Planet Fitness after sometime. Horrible mistake. I don't care about the staff. It was still clean, however the crowd is out of control. And honestly, most of the crowd are ignorant and uneducated people. I would not recommend it to anyone who does not want to train with countless ignorant people who do not know how to behave in crowds and in public. One of the saddest parts is that it is not very difficult to prevent this kind of inappropriate behavior. The management must intervene. But I can assure you that they will never do such a thing. Very shady business practices. Will only take payment from bank direct withdrawal, NO other method (just google planet fitness bank account to see how people feel about this policy). I've read they have a reputation for abusing this privilege by making unuathorized charges after people cancel memberships, so I used a second bank account that I could easily close should I wish to cancel. I forgot to top up my account prior to their "annual fee" charge, got an NSF fee and decided to cancel PF as I can't afford to risk that happening again. They refused to cancel my membership and said they would continue charging me monthly until I pay it. That is not how you do business - you can demand payment of what you feel is owing, but you don't continue charging future payments once cancellation of service is requested! I don't even think that's legal??? This is basically blackmailing people into paying the disputed charge. When I spoke to the bank they knew which business it was right away ("oh is it planet fitness") and told me some horror stories about things that have happened to people. The simple fact that their only accepted form of payment leaves you open to NSF fees if you forget to update payment or keep enough cash in, should be reason to avoid this business. Equipment is okay but it's not the cleanest place so I'll kinda be glad to have a reason just to not go. I'd rather take the $260/year that is their minimum cost + a couple of NSF fees worth of extra cash and for 2 yrs worth of their cheapest membership plan I'd have over $600 towards some home gym equipment - think about it: much more convenient, much cleaner, you own it outright, and you don't get that sick feeling from supporting a business with no respect for you. read more

This gym is in my mind Beta, I say this because it is meant for "beginners" after you make real progress you won't be able to do an entire program at this gym, given its lack of squat racks, bench press and the inability to deadlift. Which are the core exercises to actually progress after you max out your beginner gains, Which is the only thing you can max out, you cannot even attempt to lift until failure given that if you don't gently set the weights down like they are a delicate little flower, an alarm goes off to remind you that dropping the weights is annoying (and that it scares the special snow flakes.)Because the sound of dumbbells and barbells crashing to the floor is more annoying than the sound of an alarm in their minds. On the flip side, are you a meat head with time to kill, go drop weights and laugh when their staff set off the alarm and demand you leave. Pro-Tip don't pay for a day pass, gyms have to adhere to the Ontario Consumer rights act, you have a ten day period in which to cancel and get a full refund. So go for the gold package, use the amenities and then you can cancel and it will all be a free experience. read more

I live in the area, the pictures of other locations look promising but I've been burnt by gyms before. They ONLY let you pay with pre-authorized access to your checking account. Its 10 bucks a month. You get tiny change rooms but decent equipment. Not always super packed and off times you have your pick of a ton of cardio equipment. The fees are monthly rather than year or by week. You smell it before you set foot into the gym. Once you get to the locker it gets worst. Idk if they ever clean the gym, if they do. They don't do a good of it as the smell is always there. What I love about planet fitness is the low cost of the plans. There's no towel service nor do they provide shampoo or soap, which I'm fine with because I'm very brand specific due to preference. What I don't get is, they don't have a place for you to place your stuff in the showers, except the floor which is really gross. This gym is busier than the Gerrard square location. IF YOU ARE A WOMAN, DO NOT SIGN UP HERE - IT IS NOT A SAFE SPACE This is not a safe work out space for women. The `Judgement Free Zone` implies that this is a space place for women, free from harassment from men - but this couldn`t be further from the truth. A male member was filming me while I was work out and when I brought this to the attention he kind of shrugged his shoulders, suggested it was my problem, and implied that I should just deal with it. The bathrooms are not clean (especially the showers, management claims that the curtains are replaced every week but the mildew stains tell a different story) The toilet seats have been broken since I joined, and management refuses to fix them. There is always toilet paper littering the floor, urine on the floor and seats. Went to use the water fountain yesterday and some members`protein shake shmutz was caked on it - had clearly been there a while, no one cleaned it. The associates are more concerned with recruiting membership than cleaning the facility, I think they might work on commission. WiFi is not a selling feature here, as it is always cutting out. Once they collect your yearly fee in March, they basically stop giving any f**ks. read more

This company really seems to me like they're just concerned about their profit margins. I was recovering from an injury and couldn't even leave my apartment, let alone go to the gym, for many months and so I could not go in to cancel my account. Putting it on hold over and over again proved to be too much to deal with, so I asked how I could cancel it, and the person on the phone told me I had to write a letter asking for cancellation. I thought I could do that, but I ended up being unable to, and just dealt with the charges...But finally, after they had charged me again, I called in and asked to speak to the manager, who just cancelled my account over the phone...so they could have done that months ago without continuing to charge my account? Seems the most reasonable thing to do when I don't even know when I can go out to a gym again. The manager told me that because I already knew about the letter option and hadn't called in that they couldn't refund the recent one month membership charges, demonstrating no positive customer service and showing little compassion. I used to enjoy going to this gym because it was cheap, but now I really don't feel right contributing to Planet Fitness and what it stands for. read more

Planet Fitness at Galleria Mall probably the worst gym experience possible when having just secured a membership. Now I would like to say the gym as far as equipment goes is fine a great place to work out with tons of room for movement. Planet Fitness has a great policy NO GYMTIMADATION GREAT IDEA! I would also like to say the non management employees are GREAT But the management fails I was recently training at 1245 dupont Planet Fitness when I was approached by staff (Fitness trainer) and was told I would have to leave the section I was training in as it was being closed for a training session , I asked the trainer why didn't he put signs up prior and close the section sooner as to not interfere with anyone else's training which caused him to immediately rope the section off and tell me I had 5 minutes to leave or would be thrown out of gym. I responded by asking for a email address for me to forward my concerns and was met 0 co- operation so I asked for the management and management Kayla shows up with an attitude was told by Kayla to do a survey get out of the section in 5 minutes or be banned for 24hrs she also told me I wasn't making good use of my 5 minutes. I leave the section in 2 minutes and I'm training on another machine when security arrives, Kayla approached security and told them I am banned for life from that location and I had to leave. They do not provide notification each time they debit. They should not rip people off if they have a medical reason to stop coming for some time. They should stick with what they say or promise. I was charged two months for not attending despite the fact they were informed. Even after promising to refund they chose not to. I ended up canceling my black membership after two years. read more

Not to sure why this gym gets such wishy washy reviews. This is a new gym, which opened in late December I believe. I joined about a month ago & decided to try the $10/month membership, at the time it was a $1 start up fee plus $30 yearly fee so I'd be paying about $151 plus tax yearly. You get to choose from a $10 membership that gets you a free t-shirt, unlimited training, & access to home gym, the $20 membership gets you that and much more. The gym is located in a mall/plaza so there is free parking, the gym itself is also open 24/7. The staff are okay, I like the fact that they don't bother you while you're working out..Can't really comment on customer service since I haven't really asked any questions, however the two times I've called to ask questions I did get a rude female answering each time. I personally think this is an amazing value for the gym itself, This is the first gym I've ever joined and I think it's great for beginners. In the past 2 years I've lost about 70-80 lbs by eating right and doing at home work outs and decided that I wanted to join a gym this year instead of working out at home. They have a variety of cardio equipment which is what I mostly use (bikes, treadmills, ellipticals, stair climbers etc.) and yes their free weights section is a bit small, however there are a bunch of machines to work out your arms that I haven't tried (I mostly go to the gym to do cardio). They have a 12 minute ab circuit workout as well as a 30 minute cardio circuit workout. The lockers are pretty small, you're lucky if you get a full big locker but most of us will be stuck with the half lockers. The washrooms, change rooms, and showers are very clean..I hope they stay this way. *If you choose to shower at the gym, they do not provide you with shampoo/conditioner (I believe they have soap, call to make sure) Bottom line is, for $10 or $20 a month I believe it is worth it however if you're use to fancier gyms with classes, more selection, qualified experienced trainers then I don't think you'd enjoy this place. This is a gym for regular folk that just want to workout. A weird bonus is that they offer free pizza every first Monday of the month and free bagels every first Tuesday of the month which i've never tried so I can't comment on how good they are. read more

Late night staff (sometimes day time as well) clearly don't care about proper customer service. They are always on their phones, talking to each other, and not professional at all. Also what is the point of paying for the "black card service" when they let ANYONE use the massage chairs and tanning machines. They don't check for the passes nor clean the machines after uses (tanning beds) It's a great spot, and well lit space, but common, the staff should be more professional. I understand that this is a discount gym, but I think they can probably afford to clean the showers every day, and make sure that the shower curtains are free of mildew. I recently moved and came in to cancel my membership. I was told by the front desk staff that since I was under contract, I needed to come back and cancel in person again on November 28 to avoid the cancellation fee. I put it in my calendar and when I came back today, was told that I could have cancelled at any time, and am now being charged the annual fee in addition to next months fee. Well, you sure as shite get what you pay for here. I'm a student, so I do appreciate having any $10/month gym option. And when I go during the day, it's not too busy, which lets me fumble around the machines with less embarrassment. The staff, though, are laughably incompetent. And they--rather than fellow gym-goers-- make me feel like I'm on an episode of Jersey Shore. I love the Jersey Shore, so that isn't all bad, but it is if you need any sort of help. The other day, I asked how to get the TV audio to feed into the elliptical. The guy at the front counter told me the ellipticals couldn't get sound. Then the girl next to him said, no, some of them get sound. So a third girl came over and started testing all the ellipticals before giving up and sort of frumping away quietly. I asked someone using the elliptical, and in about ten seconds they'd explained it to me. All the machines work--you just have to be using it before sound will start. Another time my friend and I signed up for their create-a-program thing. We were ignored for the first twenty minutes as the staff member directed all her attention on someone else. Then, she proceeded to try and sell us weight-loss pills. Neither of us are remotely overweight. It was kind of hilarious. We now refer to the gym as "Planet ShitForBrains." read more

So for less than $12 a month for membership, there is little to complain about. It's not perfect, there aren't really classes, no swimming pools and it's PACKED at rush hour times. But, it's clean, there's staff there all the time, you can usually get a machine, even if you have to wait a bit. In non-rush hours, it can even be pretty empty. For $20 you can have access to a tanning bed, other machines and bring in a friend with you for free every time. It is packed with big dudes on the weights all the time, so I tend not to use them, that's my one complaint, but, at $12 (plus a once a year $30 fee), how can anyone complain? Be aware the low cost is offset by some additional charges. Every June they take $44 "just in case the membership fees increase, it's your annual fee". If the membership fees increase I just expect them to increase since I'm paying monthly. They have not increased and they have no explanation for where that money goes. so it's just an annual fee. Second, if you want to downgrade your membership (I had the black card and wasn't worth it to sit on grungy massage chairs and watch tv with a stranger, and lots of people use it who don't pay extra), that costs $29 too! Why do I have to pay what is about 2.5 months of the difference to receive less? So read the fine print. Also the orientation/training person is nice but the times I've been there she's been behind so I waited, and it is not a very personalized plan. Just a print out that she scrawled a couple of extra notes on, like "biceps". I can get that off the internet without waiting. Also very busy on the cardio machines, and a bit smelly. Get what you pay for, and I'm cheap on working out, but this year I will have spent $320 so not as cheap as the ads suggest. read more

I visited this location for one reason and one reason only...to see how many (if any) stair mills PF had. I'm currently a member of another gym, but my gym only has one stair mill, and it's really hard to get a hold of because someone is always on it (especially during peak hours). I'm currently working on a muscle-building program that requires the stair mill on at least two days/week. I received the PF promotional flyer in my mail quite a few times, so I thought it couldn't hurt to check it out, considering the price. Before I start, I'd like to point out that I had heard about PF through several different online sources, so I was prepared for the "judgment-free zone", pizza, bagels, and tootsie rolls PF offers. Also, I am well aware of the lunk alarm (although, I didn't actually see it yesterday) and what infractions can trigger it to sound. I got to the gym, signed in, and was taken through a tour of the gym. It was fairly busy (around 6:15 p.m.). The first thing I was told was that PF is a judgment-free zone, and that they don't cater to body builders. The cardio equipment inventory was impressive. There were tons of treadmills, ellipticals, cross-ramps, and ARC trainers. I noted that they had only four stair mills. There was a separate ab workout area and a 30-min circuit training area. There were plenty of weight machines as well, although I didn't notice exactly what they had because my tour was speeding along at a fast rate. The locker room was incredibly small. I could see why there were complaints about the locker space on the Facebook page. It was pretty much standing room only with a small bench in the middle of the room. I made mention of the locker shortage complaints, and the reply was that they added more lockers (there were about 10 lockers on the gym floor). I doubt that solved the problem. Anyway, I didn't bother checking out the shower area, so I can't comment on that. I was shown the massage chair, the tanning beds, and the infrared hydro thing, but all these were not accessible with the basic membership. Our tour was over fairly quickly, so I asked her if I could check out the free-weight area again, because I didn't notice it that much during my tour. We headed back that way, and I noticed that it was incredibly limited/small and very busy. I was underwhelmed. We sat down to discuss the memberships and she explained the two. Both are reasonably priced. She mentioned a monthly withdrawal option. I asked her if there was a pay-for-the-full-year option and she said no. They only accepted monthly withdrawal options. I told her that didn't sit well with me, because I've been burned by gyms before, and I didn't like giving gyms access to my account. I told her it wasn't going to work and she ripped up my papers and began walking away. I guess I was of no use to her anymore. Needless to say, I didn't join. I gave it two stars, because of the lack of free-weights, benches, etc., the small change room, and the way I was dismissed at the end. read more

I've been a member here for about 2 months. For roughly 12$/month, the value is outstanding. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: -As mentionned, the value! There is a gym near my appt which charges 5 times what Planet Fitness charges, and it is a quarter of the size. I think the price genuinely helps people want to make a healthy change in their lives, because it's easy to justify 12$ a month rather than 50-60, and removes all excuses of "I can't afford a gym, it's too expensive.". More gyms should adopt this business model and I am proud to be a part of this one! -Lots of individual areas for different things (ab area, 30 min worout area, stretching area, free weights, lines of cardio machines, strength machines etc) -AMPLE free parking at the galleria mall, which is mostly deserted every time I go (except for the FreshCo) -I personally love seeing people of ALL shapes and sizes at the gym. I think the approach of the "judgement free zone" is brilliant. When you are overweight, you tend to get into a frame of mind that you are "too fat for the gym". By encouraging people of all fitness levels to become members here, people are actually able to see that "too fat for the gym" is complete bull. I've seen strangers go up to each other here to encourage those that look new, or intimidated, or are new at the whole fitness lifestyle. It's been awesome to see. -washrooms and showers are clean Cons: -Depending on which staff member is manning the check in counter, service can be rude or sporadic. I've stood around for several minutes on several occasions waiting for someone to just take my card to scan in. I understand that one staff member might be busy talking to a customer or member, but every single time I've waited, there has been a second staff member at the counter "working" (rather, staring intently) at the computer , who clearly can see i'm standing there waiting but choose not to help out their coworker, and take the 3 seconds required to scan me in. When they do finally tear themselves away from the computer, it has been without saying hello or acknowledging that im there, and with a scowl on their face like they'd rather be anywhere but there (which is definitely not the welcoming, judgement free environment I think they're trying to build). Other times, I have been able to check in with no issues; quickly and efficiently. There are some "regular" staff that I see quite often that do an awesome job. They say hello (with a smile!), address members as soon as they walk in, and greet them with "have a good workout!" which i'm sure is company policy, but is nice to hear either way. It would be nice to have this sort of consistency with all staff. -There are not nearly enough treadmills! Every single time I go to the gym between 5-8, it is incredibly busy and every treadmill is occupied. As mentionned, the gym in general can become quite busy at this time (which means, no lockers available, having to wait several minutes for machines etc) but waiting around for these to become free is not ideal. After 9 pm, or anytime on weekends is your best bet to work out without these delays, with lots of machines free. Overall-you can't go wrong here. Yes, it can become busy or crowded. Yes staff service sometimes leaves a little to be desired, but if you are looking for a gym that has ALL your basics plus a little more that won't break the bank, this is it. Hoping Planet Fitness will see what a success the Toronto market has been for them so far and want to expand to other cities! read more

I left Wallace Emerson Community Center to come here to work out. Problem is, between 4pm-9pm this place is completely rammed. What I mean is, the 50 lockers in the men's change room cannot take the nearly 7,000 people who have signed up for Planet Fitness in the last 2 months. Twice I have been stranded in the change room while a mob of guys look for an empty locker to no avail. If you intend on working out between 9pm-3pm, this place is great. But if you have a job and work during the day, you won't get a locker to throw your stuff in. Planet Fitness' Canadian debut has therefore been a huge success for PF's wallet but a massive fail for customers. read more

Pros: open and staffed 24 hours for only $10 per month and you can cancel anytime - but only in person which is a bit of a drawback. Cons: Limited choice of machines, you usually have to wait for the 10 lb and 5 lb free weights, not much choice for lighter weights- which you might want for wrists or when coming off an injury. Pros: Machines are clean and most people wipe them off. Cons: No TRX. Can't defend the cleanliness re: the corners of the gym that seem to be full of hair and debris. The change room is clean but I never showered there because it's always so cold. MAJOR CON :There is only one person teaching how to use the free weights and the machines, and teaching classes which means if she is away your appt is cancelled. You might wish it was once you speak to her. She is very abrupt and her attitude crosses over into outright rudeness at times. She actually said to me, "let me finish my sentence" during a one on one orientation. While teaching classes she did not ever suggest any modifications for injuries or fitness level ever and spent most of her time looking at her cell phone. After she was rude to me on three seperate occassions and i comainex to tbe supervisor. She came up to me and initiated an apology by saying, "No one told me to apologize but if I seem frustrated it's because all the staff at the front are new and don't know what they are doing." ( this because of a mix up with the starting time of a class) She continued to make excuses for herself and throw her coworkers under the bus and I had to repeat that I was busy multiple times (I was sitting at a machine when she approached) before she finally gave up her lecture disguised as an apology and walked away. Recently I mentioned this to a supervisor and was told that I was one of the few people that complained about that staff person! That does not make my complaint unjustified and people often complain by cancelling thier memberships which is what I eventually decided to do. In the meanwhile I had another gym member approach me and tell me how she had heard that staff member being rude to other members on multiple occasions. If you have had a bad experience with anyone on staff there I hope you will address it with the supervisor so she can get a better idea of what is really going on. read more

Facilities are great and the cost can't be beat. The 30 minute circuit isn't monitored so members have to ask other members to let them use the equipment. This branch has the worst customer service of any locations. They either avoid eye contacts, always have their back from the front desk, or an indifferent attitudes like it's a pain just to do their job. On my frequent visit, I was told personal belongings are not allowed on the floor (I had a small bag on my bag that's barely noticeable). I noticed at least three other members had larger bags on the floor and yet they weren't harassed about it. This pretty much mean either they're blatantly incompetent and not noticed the other members or they're just plain racist and bigoted. read more

Good place to work out. Free parking is a bonus, $10 or 20 per month depending on level of membership is not hard to take either. The members are from all walks of life, from older Portugese ladies, to Bloordale hipsters and serious body builders. It's a nice cross section of the community. The staff? Pretty flaky.. Underpayed kids are like little robots on speed. Zero costumer service skills. They might as well be folding cloths at Jean Machine. Forget the "Design Your Own Program" by staff Trainer. It's all cookie cutter stuff. Would be nice to have some staff to float around to help one on one with equipment or questions but don't count on that! Small locker rooms with limited locker space especially during busy time is annoying. I think management is waiting for the New Year's resolution crowds to diminish soon instead of spending more money to expand. Bring your gear in a shopping bag, my gym bag hardly fit in the small locker Bottom line: If you can come off hours to get some exercise with a workout plan of your own, it's a good place to do it.
