I should have read the reviews before joining this gym! Their accounting practices are a scam and their management team is not around to receive calls or return them, specifically Ms. Wright. I called four times to get clarity on why I was charged a late fee after them receiving payment from my a second form of payment they have on file. No one ever returned my calls. Oh and if you try to escalate the issue, don't its a waste of time. They will just say " we told them to call you", "they are a franchise and we cant do much" This is like joining a recreational center for delinquents, that is run by folks that have no clue how to run a mediocre business. Planet Fitness Branch Ave SE location. If I could give it a zero I would! I have been a member since this location opened years ago, but I barely use the gym. Recently, I changed my banking account information, and they require you to have two forms of payment on file. If there's an issue with the first payment method, they will wait three business days to charge a $20 NSF/late payment fee, even though they have another payment method on file that they could charge. This happened to me for three consecutive months! These accounting practices should be reported to the Better Business Bureau (BBB) to document this issue. As for management, it's a waste of time. Tasha and Rico are the managers, but they never return calls, and when you visit the location, they are always in a meeting. For my peace of mind, I decided to cancel my membership and will pay a little more for better service and amenities elsewhere. The saying goes, "You pay for what you get, and you get what you pay for." Sadly, this is true! It's disappointing that this is happening in a predominantly African American community. (GYM IS A MESS) I'm sick and tired of the men's bathroom being neglected!!! Stalls, urinals, showers "temporarily" out of order for MONTHS!!! Elliptical machines that wobble because of unleveled floors and cant use the incline or fan features because they need new batteries, and takes forever to replace cracked leather on machines that pinch your skin. This location is maybe 5yrs old but like 50yrs of neglect. Some staff don't ever speak, answer the phones with a "hello" as if it is their personal phone. GET IT TOGETHER!!! read more

I joined this particular locations shortly after it opened (a few years ago pre pandemic ) and I thought the facility was really nice, the price is super affordable and the staff are pretty awesome as well. I admit - I hadn't stepped back in this gym since 2020 (I know...cringe) until yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised to see the facility was still well kept and clean. It wasn't too crowded but there's plenty of space for everyone. There's ample parking (own parking lot in the back) and all of the basics of a planet fitness. After a summer of eating all of the food and drinking all of the drinks...I'll be using my membership a lot more frequently. read more

Cancelled membership and was quoted by manager and two team members that I'm still good until we'll into August...Next Day..Membership cut off. Two visits later and no reply from manager to refund request or updating of account to reflect active until date of payment. This after two annual fees were taken in less than 6 months. I actually love this club. It's the staff, correction one particular staff member that makes the whole experience horrible. I have never in my life met someone so unprofessional and UNPLEASANT in my entire adult life and I'm 56 years old. Apparently PF's new COVID mandate (as of 15 January 2022) requires that you certify your health status before you work out. No problem. I don't know who this staff member is however her look of disdain is evident behind her mask!. 2/9/22 at approximately 7:30 I walk in with a guest, she rolls her eyes and never moves from her position ( leaning against the back counter) "you can't come in without uploading your Covid certificate on the website". Her tone was so nasty and RUDE. I ask since when? I was here last week and that wasn't the case. She said "1/15. It's on the board..." eye roll again. Not one time did she uncross her arms or attempt to explain the "new" requirement. The level of her unprofessional attitude is enough to take you out of character. This is the location close to my home and the most convenient for me but I actually HATE coming here because I may have to encounter her, God for bid interact with this woman's unpleasantness. For the life of me I don't think she likes people or her job and it shows. I truly hope others never have to ask her anything or need her help, I'm sure she'll make sure that you regret the encounter. Her dreadlocks make her unmistakable...approach with caution Yeah... The management responses to reviews here alone give pause for concern to using this facility. The business only responds to the positive (4 & 5 star) entries, but for a couple exceptions. The responses to the negative reviews, which mostly bemoan a rarely seen and unresponsive management team and rude staff, are canned responses. Nothing personal. The first case of this response is the first one-start review. It states generally, "we are so happy you're here. For any concerns reach out to our management staff." What a tone deaf response. For a complaint about missing management staff, the member should contact management staff??? As a black card member (I like the massage chairs and roaming perk), I've been to quite a few PF locations. I have not yet been to Seat Pleasant but I will. But I can echo this members response as common to the DC area clubs I've been to. On the drive back from Pittsburgh, I stopped at the Hagerstown, MD location. This has been an outlier. Well thought-out use of space. Smiling friendly staff member No broken down equipment Planet Fitness, along with the 24hours and low cost attractions, is on the surface great and welcoming to the beginner/novice gym goer along with the long timers like me. I like seeing newbies motivated for fitness and being taken care of so they continue. It almost appears that the owners of these DC stores are complete beginners as far as owning a business, because not doing a stellar job. The clubs can (& should) look as purple, shiny, and slick and you can post as many slick motivational signage as you want, but you still have to walk the talk. For all your talk of lunk alarms, there's something else that discourages newbies from staying the course: bad management who feel that once that contract is signed, the opticals of a good fancy purple pizza-night-offering club should be enough that their jobs are done, oh and the stories of predatory financial activities (only some of which are true granted). This is reminiscent of Holiday Spas/Bally's. Bring em in and then treat em like crap. Also, I've seen trainers giving incorrect instructions - dangerously incorrect. This location has only one goal: money. They continue to recruit new members but offer less and less to members with each passing week. Each week another machine is broken, without any of those that have been broken for months being fixed. Similarly, they do their best to pitch the higher-priced Black Card membership -- with access to massage beds/chairs, tanning, and red light therapy -- but each week one of those offerings also breaks without any fix ever materializing. Since joining toward the end of 2022, half of all the massage chairs in the Black Card Spa have become broken without a single one being fixed in over 4 months. They still advertise "Free Pizza Mondays" and "Free Bagel Tuesdays" but haven't actually offered these things for years and have no plan to bring them back -- but also don't mention this when signing you up and collecting your "Annual Fee" that allegedly supports these events and fixing/maintaining the equipment, etc. TLDR: you will get less and less for your money the longer you stay with this location. I initially drove to the Oxon Hill location but there were way too many birds flying around and I just could not get out the car. I headed over to this location which is still close to where I live. I dintrealize that parking was in the back of the shopping center but as soon as I got to the back there was parking everywhere. Upon entering I was greeted and invited to take the next available class. Now I've never taken a class from Planet Fitness but happy that they are offering them to customers. I arrived at they gym after 3:30 and was happy to find several machines available. I believe that all of the machines are brand new or at least they seemed that way. There were machines that I've never seen at any of the other Planet Fitness' that I definitely want to try after I get over my intimidation factor. Everything also appeared to be very clean and they were playing a really good selection of music (rap/r&b) in case you forget your headphones. I was very happy to get my first workout in of the year (judge your momma) and I look forward to making work outs at this location a part of my routine. I have been a member of Plant Fitness for a few years in another state. Thought I would like this location, although I wasn't thrilled Covid-19 came along. The gym closed in March but they were happy to snatch the next months payment while closed and knowing they would probably be closed at least for the next month. Planet Fitness informed the Attorney General they would stop collecting payments, not charge a cancellation fee and either refund the among collected in March or give the member a credit. I emailed the club to cancel and of course they swiped another payment and now refuse to give me my refund from March. I am told that I sent the email notification to the main email address and not to one of the employee's personal email address. I did business with Planet Fitness Penn Branch and that's the email I sent the notification. Gave a 3 Star only because I really do like Planet Fitness - this location not so much. Your members didn't cause or invite COVID-19 - this is the hand we received and dealing with like you should. read more

I was given a tour by Shiral she was so nice. She answered every question I had about the equipment. She didn't rush the tour. The equipment is very clean social distance is being well monitored. The women's locker room is very clean and smells nice to. The private rooms are kept clean as well read more

The general manager always seems to have a negative attitude....that is, when she is ever there to speak to a member, fix a machine, or answer any member inquiry.. This management has severely plummeted in quality and production. This Penn Branch Planet Fitness is an under-appreciated treasure. I switched from my "luxury" Capitol Hill gym because of the cost savings, and I have been shocked by what little (seriously: nothing!) I have given up in the transition. It's immaculately clean. The parking is easy. No more fighting for parking and ending up 4 blocks away. The customer service is great. The cardio selection, while not perfect, is plentiful. The weight machines are great. Did I mention how clean it is? I didn't realize how musty my previous gym was until I started here. And you can't beat the price. I'm not a paid ad person or a troll. I'm just someone who's trying to get a decent workout and who is surprised by how good the experience at PF has been. read more

I switched my membership to this PF from the Ivy City branch. It's just a short hop over from Capitol Hill, especially if you hit the traffic right (ie, avoid 4-6pm) -- and tons of parking. The staff is always friendly and upbeat and there's tons of equipment. I feel welcome there. read more

The overzealous workers and managers do too much for whatever salary they are paid, who have nothing better to do than police peoples outfit. The third time I used this place, I was told my sports bra was inappropriate and against their policy. I chalked it up to that particular employee who approached me, since the previous two times I had visited wearing a sports bra no one bothered me. The most recent and last time I was there wearing my sports bra per usual, I was told to either leave or buy gym attire from their store to cover up (sly way to get your customers to buy your ugly gym wear). I packed my sh*t and went to another planet fitness. I asked the employees in this different location if my outfit was fine they responded with approval. Like any reasonable adult, as long as I was respectful and not being a bother to anyone, the employees in this new planet fitness location did not have a problem with my attire. Hence, I will take my work outs to a different location to avoid being harassed by the miserable jobless employees at the Pennsylvania ave location. My gym outfits consist of sports bra and leggings. I don't plan on buying new gym wears because of some prudish gym policy. I just think it is bizarre and weird that a standard gym attire is a problem in PF. Even the planet fitness website has a model wearing a sports bra and shorts. PF prides themselves in their "no judgement zone" but proceeds to police a customers attire . Gym seem fine to me. It has the basics, properly organized given the space so it doesn't seem crowded, a block from my house which is great, clean and the machines work and folks are focused on working out. I get in and get out. No fuss no miss!! Hope it stays the same. read more

This is a convenient location for me so that's one of the reasons why I canceled my membership with another gym. Since I've been a black card membership, I have received VIP customer service from the staff, clean and safe atmosphere, working and available equipment, and a relaxing massage chair after my workout. I want to personally thank Nina, Tim, Leandre, and Trestan for always greeting me at the door and making me feel like a valued customer. Keep up the good work! This gym is the best Planet Fitness in the area. Tons of equipment, clean, and friendly staff. I think those who join Planet Fitness should remember the company itself has a particular set up that is different from other workout facilities. It's not the same environment as Gold's Gym or a crossfit gym (members of both as well). If I could give them a "zero" I would. After attempting to cancel my membership during the COVID pandemic for three months, and Planet Fitness' failure to allow customers a means by which they could do so during the months of April, May, and June, 2020, I was told that I still owed $10+. The manager refused to waive the additional payment notwithstanding that they did not have any means by which customers could cancel prior to July. It seems that it they are clearly taking advantage of members who have tried to cancel for months. (I am in DC not San Fransisco). read more

Cool staff but couldn't jump rope which is quite weird because I've never had this issue before... or wasn't really given a reason why as a black card member. I went in with a guest pass today. No one offered to give me a quick tour after I signed in so I walked around on my own. That was a tad disappointing. They have tons of cardio and weightlifting equipment. It's a clean and basic gym but you can't do box jumps here. Wish it had mirrors in front of the dumbbells and benches section or the abs/stretching section it would be useful to see if your form is correct and avoid getting in the way of folks using the hack machines where the mirrors are located. It's a quick 10min walk from my home so I am still considering joining after my other more expensive gym membership expires. Can't beat the price for this planet fitness. Machines will take me a minute to get used to as well. read more

Since going to this Planet Fitness I've come to realize it's just an old ass building. The gyms location was occupied by government/non-governmental agencies and they all moved because it's old. It's an old building with old plumbing and since working out at this liasson half of the equipment is not in use because of faulty plumbing. Bad location spot.. The fitness center is in a great location with tons of parking. However the staff members are extremely rude. I thought that Smiley the guy who works the front desk was having a bad day so I gave him the benefit of the doubt. However his unprofessionalism and lack of customer service continues. He needs serious training before taking on the responsibilities of the front desk. read more

This place is the place to be. My spouse and I frequent here everyone even the members are pleasant. Very welcoming the facility is spotless . As far as the fitness classes Walter has them on lock. He is very motivating and will sculpt a workout plan to fit your needs. All in all I couldn't have picked a better gym!!! read more
